Analytical study of electromagnetic wave propagation is proposed in the case of arbitrary excited expofunctional isotropic linear homogeneous medium. Mathematical simulation is based on the symmetrical differential Maxwell system. Solvability criterion of the latter is proved in the sense of equivalence to the general wave PDE (partial differential equation). It includes all scalar components of unknown electromagnetic field intensities, and only non generalized functions are taken into account. The proven theorem allows considering boundary problems which correctly describe electromagnetic field behavior and / or signal propagation that is governed by it.

The problem of intermodulation distortions introduced by ferromagnetic materials inclusions in the construction of equipment used for transmission and processing of GSM signals is addressed. A Rayleigh model is implemented for determination of the response of ferromagnetic materials to two-tone signals. Results of experiments performed on coaxial transmission lines built with ferromagnetic materials and fed with two-tone signals are reported and compared to the predictions of the models.

The paper presents some aspects regarding the recent introduced time-frequency (T-F) binary mask for speech dereverberation. First of all, a theoretical analysis of the binary mask is presented. It is compared with another T-F binary mask which was used in speech separation, to find some common aspects but also the differences. By using the results of this comparative analysis, we demonstrate the existence of the T-F binary mask for speech dereverberation. To prove our results, relevant experiments are presented.

This paper is focused on the weakness of the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) provided by the substitution step of the algorithm, which replaces each input data byte with a fix value provided by a static substitution box (S-box) [1]. Efficiently attacks on software programs secured by AES, are concentrated on whitening the S-box, in order to compromise the encryption key and the private information [2]. We propose an algebraic substitution method which dynamically modifies the “S-box”, based on a key sequence and a mathematic function operating on the Galois Field with 8-bit elements. The algorithm will be more robust under cryptographic attacks and the security of the system will be considerably improved.

The quality of the ultrasound medical images is usually degraded by two important problems - the transducer influence and the speckle noise. To remove the multiplicative speckle noise, in this paper it is presented a method based on a blind, time-domain, deconvolution algorithm. The proposed approach uses the envelope of the acquired radio-frequency signals for the numerical implementation. It is a two steps blind deconvolution, where firstly, the point spread function is automatically estimated from the measured data, and secondly, the data are reconstructed in a non-blind way using proposed algorithm. It has a nonlinear implementation which at each step intends to eliminate the most important part of speckle noise and blur as possible. The results on real image tests are compared with Tikhonov regularization. Our method shows better results for scatters detection and speckle noise removal.

This paper presents a predictive sensing-based ADC architecture that has improved energy efficiency, compared to a conventional SAR ADC, by exploiting the predictable properties of biomedical signals, such as the electrocardiogram (ECG) signal. By predicting the next input sample, based on previous samples, the conversion is performed in a subrange of the full scale. This results in energy savings compared to the SAR ADC, which always performs the conversion in the full scale. Two search algorithms to perform the conversion in the subrange will be presented and analyzed. For moderate resolutions between 6 and 10 bit, up to 40–50% improvement in terms of energy consumption is obtained, while 25 to 40% for higher resolutions. To validate the concept, a 12-bit predictive ADC, implementing the restricted binary search algorithm with 0-th order prediction, is designed and simulated in 130nm UMC CMOS technology. The simulation results show an improvement in the average energy consumption per conversion, compared to a conventional SAR ADC with the same resolution, which is in the range of 30–40%.

The presence of human body has an important influence on the wireless communication systems in indoor environments. The need of efficient prediction for such coverage becomes essential. This paper present an efficient electromagnetic indoor propagation modeling, taking into account the presence of human body and the nature of materials of the complex environment, based on the Finite-Difference Time-Domain method. Numerical results are compared with measurement results and show a good agreement.

Measuring the audio impulse response is a very common and important operation in every characterization of acoustic systems and sound fields. For the past decade, sine sweeps are the most employed signals for achieving this goal both by researchers and the audio industry. When the application requires a huge number of impulse responses to be measured, every second that can be saved for a single measurement counts. This article proposes and implements an artifice in the method suited for reducing the time of measurement.

This paper introduces a generalized sparsity model that extends synthesis and analysis sparsity. The generalized model asserts that a signal has a sparse representation in a dictionary, which is at the same time orthogonal to a part of the dictionary's null space. Alternatively, analyzing the signal with an analysis operator yields an output vector that can be represented as the sum between a sparse vector and a vector from a low-dimensional subspace. We show that the proposed model allows recovery of sparse signals from few incoherent measurements, with algorithms that are similar to the familiar algorithms of the synthesis and analysis sparsity models.

In this paper we consider the class of generalized anti-uniform Huffman (AUH) codes for sources with infinite alphabet and geometric distribution. This distribution leads to infinite anti-uniform sources for some ranges of its parameters. Huffman coding of these sources results in AUH codes. We perform a generalization of binary Huffman encoding, using a, M-letter code alphabet and prove that as a result of this encoding, sources with memory are obtained. For these sources we attach the graph and derive the transition probabilities between states, as well as the state probabilities. The entropy and the average cost for AUH codes are derived.
