This paper presents a method based on partial least squares regression (PLSR) and multiple kernel extreme learning machine (MKLEM) for multivariate chaotic time series prediction. At first, singular spectrum analysis (SSA) is applied for the time series extraction of complex trends and eliminating the influence of noise. Then, partial least squares regression is used to capture the essential structure of the data and extract the compositions, in order to overcome the multicollinearity problem among time series and reduce the input dimension of neural networks. Finally, multiple kernel extreme learning machine is used to predict the time series. Multiple kernel extreme learning machine overcomes the problem that single extreme learning machine with kernels (KELM) doesn't present an effective generalization performance. Root mean square error (RMSE) is used to measure the performance of the proposed prediction model. The simulation experiment results based on Lorenz chaotic time series and Dalian monthly average temperature-rainfall time series demonstrate that the proposed model is effective for time series prediction, and the prediction accuracy is higher than other models.

According to the fractional order calculus and frequency-domain approximation method, three types of electronic unit circuits of the fractional-order 1/sα with α=0.80-0.99 in steps of 0.01 are first given, the corresponding values of resistance and capacitance are presented. These electronic unit circuits are applied to a novel fourth dimensional fractional-order chaotic system where the dynamical behaviors are investigated in this paper. The experimental results verified the effectiveness of the equivalent circuits.

The compartment modeling of computer viruses is recognized as an effective approach to the understanding of their propagation and containment. The recently proposed SICS model takes into account the dissemination of countermeasures as well as the propagation of viruses; as thus, it offers a new approach to the evaluation of effectiveness of countermeasure strategies. However, the linear assumption of the infection rate in the SICS model fits well with the real situation only when the number of infected nodes is very small. To better understand the virus-countermeasure mixed behavior, in this paper the SICS model is modified by introducing a nonlinear infection rate. Depending on the parameter values, the new model may have one or two equilibria. Furthermore, the global stabilities of the two equilibria, if any, are determined completely. On this basis, some policies to contain the viral prevalence are suggested.

Deception detection is becoming indispensable to a growing number of applications in law enforcement and other government agencies. Recently, many researchers from both speech signal area and machine learning area have already shown that automatically deception detection from speech is promising. While there are a large amount of research works on English deception detection, few efforts have been put on Chinese which is quite different due to the culture divergence. In order to show the full potential of automatically deception detection, in this paper, we first construct the deceptive and non-deceptive Chinese speech corpus which has not been published so far. And then we propose a novel machine learning-based approach to detect deception in the same gender. Several popular machine learning algorithms are applied. Moreover, a transfer learning-based algorithm is applied for cross-gender deception detection. Experimental results show that our approach performs well on real-world corpus. In intra-gender deception detection, our approach can achieve roughly the same accuracy as the traditional method on English corpus. This means our corpus is reasonable and can be used for deception detection research. In cross-gender deception detection, our approach also outperforms the baseline methods.

Under some simple conditions, the finite-time boundedness of a network about its all variables is derived by only considering the finite-time boundedness of its partial variables. First, based on some inequality techniques and employing the Lyapunov method, some delay-independent sufficient criteria are derived to ensuring the finite-time boundedness of all state variables of the discussed delay networks. Secondly, a new delay-independent criterion of finite-time boundedness for a part states and finite-time stability for the other part states of the discussed system is also given. Finally, one numerical example is given to show the effectiveness and usefulness of the results.

Micro-grid can be classified as grid connected or isolated. In isolated micro-grid it acts as a small power system with its all part (generation, transmission, and distribution). The main driver for isolated micro-grid is the availability of local energy resources. Hybrid Renewable energy system (HRES) is a combination of one or more renewable resources such as solar Photo Voltaic (PV) and wind turbine (WT) with other technologies such as batteries to supply electric power systems. Solar and wind are clean energy sources with enormous potential to alleviate grid dependence. The HRES is an excellent solution for electrification for rural regions where the grid extension is not economical and difficult in some region in Egypt. This paper study the effect of adding solar PV and WT systems to the micro-grid in order to improve the isolated operation of the micro-grid. The study performs the Loss of Power Supply Probability (LPSP) based on adding the same capacity of solar PV and WT to the isolated micro-grid. The LPSP and the cost of energy (COE) are the two main factors will be introduced. A typical case study of the micro grid system located at Hurghada Egypt will be analyzed in details. The model compute the LPSP will be introduced. The results are presented show the optimal model of solar PV with WT reduce the LPSP and COE of the micro-grid.

In this paper, a novel self-learning optimal control approach is established to design the decentralized guaranteed cost control of a class of complex nonlinear systems under uncertain environment. By expressing the interconnected sub-systems as a whole system, establishing an appropriate bounded function, and defining a modified cost function, the decentralized guaranteed cost control problem is transformed into an optimal control problem. Then, the online policy iteration algorithm is employed to solve iteratively the modified Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation corresponding to the nominal system. A critic neural network is constructed to obtain the optimal control approximately. At last, a simulation example is provided to verify the effectiveness of the present control approach.

A harvested predator-prey system with Holling type II functional response and a constant prey refuge is proposed. Compared with other researches on dynamics of predator-prey population, this system is described by differential-algebraic equations due to economic factor. By choosing m as bifurcation parameter and using the new normal form of differential-algebraic systems, center mainfold theorem and bifurcation theory, we get the stability and the Hopf bifurcation of the proposed system. We believe the new effective analytical method here enriches the toolbox for the qualitative analysis of the differential-algebraic systems. Finally, numerical simulations illustrate the effectiveness of our results.
