The article presents reference publications about the regions of modern Russia, addressed to children and youth audience. This topic becomes especially relevant in a complex geopolitical situation, when it is necessary to involve the younger generation in studying the history of not only the country as a whole, but also of their small homeland. That is why the article reveals some peculiarities of preparing and publishing such literature. For the first time the term “local history reference books for children and youth” (regional encyclopedias, reference books, guides for children) is proposed, the dynamics of publication by years and regions is traced. The value of such editions in both informational and patriotic aspects is revealed. The problem of low activity of book publishing in this area is raised. The bibliographic list of local history reference books for children and youth, published in the Russian Federation in 1992—2023, identified at the moment of writing, is presented for the first time.

The article describes a little-known source — the literary almanac of 1886 “From day to day”, which includes 365 quotations from various works of M.Yu. Lermontov. Compiled by the Greek Queen Olga (nee Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna, granddaughter of Nicholas I), it had a limited printing and was intended for gifts to especially close people on memorable dates as a diary album for recordings. The history of the existence of each surviving copies of this rare edition is worthy of close study, so long as it gives the opportunity to verify a number of facts important for the native culture. This is a multi-level artifact containing autographs of famous people, reflecting a significant array of events, dates, names and poetic images. The article describes for the first time a copy from the library of the famous bibliophile N.P. Smirnov-Sokolsky, in which most of the inscripts belong to representatives of the House of Romanov and their aristocratic entourage (some of the personalities are established for the first time). For this purpose different data have been used with the help and by means of archival and bibliographic heuristics, as well as historical genealogy.

On the basis of epistolary sources from 1895—1913 from the Department of Manuscripts of the Russian State Library and the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art, the history of the relationships between D.V. Ulyaninsky and P.P. Shibanov is reconstructed. The letters contain information about the sources and principles of the formation of D.V. Ulyaninsky’s library, his bibliographic studies, prices for antique books, personal relations, as well as about the lifestyle and communication style of the bibliophile, who avoided ritual visits on the occasion of holidays and took care of replenishing his book collection constantly, even on vacation and during illness. The sources demonstrate exactly which defects D.V. Ulyaninsky considered unacceptable for the books of his collection. The article shows the source aspects of his scientific work: determining the authenticity of book monuments, establishing their authorship and the history of the text. The unapproved coat of arms of the Ulyaninskys, which the bibliophile used on his seal in 1902, is first described. It is concluded that the letters of D.V. Ulyaninsky to P.P. Shibanov have a significant cognitive potential for studying the history of bibliophilia, bibliography, trade in antique books and intellectual life of Russian at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries.

The article deals with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the publishing industry. Some modern generative neural network (NN) models are able to create different types of content: from text generation (GPT-3, Balaboba) to its visualization (Dall-E 2, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, Russian DALL-E, Dream, etc.). Both the early cases of NN applications in book publishing and the latest ones due to the release in 2022 of new AI models that provoked a discussion about the creative revolution are discussed. Special attention is paid to the problems of authorship and copyright protection.
