Background: Whetstone’s Vehicle Anxiety Questionnaire is a 31 item measure of driving anxiety (amaxophobia) as common in survivors of motor vehicle accidents (MVAs). Method: Scores on Whetstone’s questionnaire were available for 53 survivors of car accidents (mean age 40.2 years, SD=13.6, 15 men, 38 women). Their scores on the Driving Anxiety Questionnaire and on Steiner’s Automobile Anxiety Inventory were also available, as well as scores on measures of PTSD (PCL-5), and on scales of post-concussive and whiplash symptoms, pain, insomnia, depression, and anxiety. Whetstone’s scores were also available for 24 normal persons (mean age 51.7 years, SD=17.5, 14 men, 10 women) who were never injured in a serious car accident. Results and Discussion: With respect to criterion validity, Whetstone’s scores were significantly higher (r=.88) in the patients than in the controls. The highest Whetstone score of the controls was 19 and the lowest of the patients was 23: there was no overlap between the two groups. With respect to convergent validity, high correlations were found of Whetstone questionnaire to the Driving Anxiety Questionnaire (r=.80) and to the PCL-5 measure of PTSD symptoms (r=.78). Whetstone scores were found to be also highly correlated with the post-concussion syndrome (r=.63) and moderately with whiplash symptoms (r=.46), post-MVA insomnia (r=.56), ratings of post-MVA pain (rs ranging from .43 to .51), and ratings of depression (r=.40) and of generalized anxiety (r=.43). Significant correlation was also found of Whetstone to Steiner’s Automobile Anxiety Inventory (r=.45). Conclusion: The results indicate an excellent criterion validity and convergent validity of Whetstone’s Vehicle Anxiety Questionnaire as a clinical assessment tool for amaxophobia.

The Use of Restraints in Mental Health Facilities
Pub Date : 1900-01-01 DOI: 10.22259/2638-5201.0302002
Mamoon Zboun, M. Marzouq
The restraint has been explained as making someone do something they don’t want to do or stopping someone doing something they want to do. Three types of restraining are physical, chemical, mechanical, the purpose of restraining is to be proactive in preventing difficult situations arising and to use their skills to de-escalate situations that do arise. You should use an alternative method such as a partnership with the patient. The Approach of Restraining as you should be assessed, monitored and reevaluated of patient condition, Restraints may need to be applied one at a time while the other extremities are held down. You should follow the general recommendation debriefing method and other methods to protect patients from a complication of restraining.

Depression, Anxiety and Stress of Police Officers in Sensitive and Insensitive Police Stations

Policing is globally considered the most dangerous profession for mental health. A part from the routine psychosocial stressors, the police officers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan have been additionally facing challenges caused by terrorism and war against terror. The current study, within the same perspective, was carried out to measure how appointment at sensitive or insensitive police stations could create differences in the most common psychological problems i.e. depression, anxiety and stress. The inquiry included 315 police officers from 3 major districts of the understudied province. Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (Lovibond & Lovibond, 1995) was administered. It was hypothesized that police officers appointed at sensitive police stations would project higher levels of depression, anxiety and stress as compared with police officers appointed at insensitive police stations. The findings confirmed the hypothesis highly significantly and were consistent with the similar studied carried out in other parts of the world.
