The ability to communicate effectively in English is crucial for global interaction and success in the workforce. It facilitates clear understanding between speakers and listeners, ensuring the intent and purpose of an utterance are well received. In the context of English language learning, students need to be able to convey messages effectively in presentations and discussions. This research aims to identify the obstacles faced by students when making online presentations and discussions. The research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The study involved 26 English literature students who were conducting online presentations and discussions. Data was collected through observation and interviews to identify the difficulties faced by students. The data was analyzed using data reduction, data display, and data conclusion. The findings showed that students faced internal and external obstacles when conducting online presentations and discussions. Internal factors included lack of self-confidence, shyness, insufficient understanding of English vocabulary, fluency, and unreadiness to convey messages. External factors were related to technology mastery, an unsupportive environment, and lack of English-speaking practice with peers. Despite these obstacles, students were able to improve their speaking skills through habituation activities.

This research describes the Sufism and spiritual interpretation of several Letto Songs. This research uses descriptive qualitative. The analysis shows that religious meanings may be detected in the lyrics of Letto's song entitled “Sebelum Cahaya, Sandaran Hati, Ruang Rindu, Permintaan Hati, Lubang di Hati, Dalam Duka, Sebenarnya Cinta, Jalan Yang Hilang”. Overall, the religious sentiments contained in the Letto band's songs demonstrate that the words in Letto's songs may be utilized as reflection material or guidance for the general audience to better comprehend the religion. The meaning of Letto's song lyrics penetrates deep and sublime love, they make up the lyrics as if they were only conveyed to humans. Letto’s songs usually also tell stories about spirituality or contain religious values that are very strong in their song. If we understand Letto's songs, we must go through two understandings of text and non-text (meaning hidden behind the depths of words). If we only understand it from a textual point of view, we will only find Letto's songs are just love songs between a pair of humans. However, if we dissect the non-textual side, we will find a Sufistic understanding that songs are a reflection of the animosity between man and his Beloved; Lord. If we are more careful and absorb the lyrics of some of Letto's songs, we will surely feel as if we are being transported to a situation wherein in that space there are only us and God. In the Sufi world, the lyrics and stanzas of a song are a form of expression of love for God the Creator.

This research was conducted to find out the difficulties faced by students in understanding recount text, and the factors that cause these difficulties. To obtain data in this study, the researcher used two data collection techniques, namely observation and interview. Observation is used to collect data in class during the teaching learning process. Interview is intended to identify the causes of the students’ obstacles in understanding recount text. There were 6 students at eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Nisam who were used as subjects in this research. 2 students who have high academic achievement, 2 medium and 2 low. The result showed that they had many difficulties in understanding recount text, both internal and external factors. The internal factor is the lack of motivation. Besides, they also have difficulties in understanding the sentence structure in recount text. In addition, they also lack of vocabulary mastery, it makes them difficult and take a long time to understand a text in English. The external factors that cause their difficulties in understanding English texts are the lack of attention from their parents towards their achievement, especially towards English achievement. They also only have a little time to learn and practice English at their home because they are busy with other activities. The lack of supporting facilities such as English reading materials and dictionaries, it is also one of the factors causing students’ difficulties in understanding recount text.

The current era has witnessed significant developments in the realms of digital and technology, which have impacted every aspect of our lives, including the art of filmmaking. Not only has technology empowered actors to portray characters, but it has also given rise to animated films to give a message. A prominent scholar, Roland Barthes, proposed that the concept of semiotics could be used as a tool to uncover hidden meanings in various forms of media. The objective of this paper is to examine the denotative elements in Sony Pictures Animation's Hair Love using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. The purpose of this study is to discuss and explain the nonverbal signs or symbols that appear in the film. The denotative elements present in Hair Love are identified and analyzed using qualitative analysis in this study. The findings of this study reveal the presence of 23 denotative and connotative elements in the movie. Overall, this study contributes to the field of semiotics by analyzing the denotative elements in a contemporary animated film using Barthes' theory. This study's findings can provide useful insights into the use of nonverbal symbols in animated films and how they can be used to convey hidden meanings to the audience. Song Lyrics are supposed to have some sort of an implied meaning or another meaning that the performer tries to convey. In this study, the signifier and signified of Taylor Swift's song lyrics will be dissected and examined. For the purpose of this investigation, a qualitative methodology will be utilised, and a semiotic analysis developed by Ferdinand de Saussure will be applied to each verse of the song lyrics. In his theory, Saussure proposed that in order for something to be considered a sign, it needed to include both a marker, also known as a signifier, and a concept (Signified). For the aim of collecting data for this analysis, the song will be sectioned off into stanzas, and each each stanza will be assigned a signifier. Afterward, the provision of a signified, more especially the notion of the marker. Lastly, the researchers will then determine the love meaning of each stanza as well as each verse. This review article attempted to provide readers with a valuable, informative, and critical summary of a specific topic or area in the field of forensic linguistics. Maite Correa’s article entitled Forensic Linguistics: An Overview of the Intersection and Interaction of Language and Law is the subject of this study. The article presents a summary of the expansive field of forensic linguistics (FL) and shows the various ways in which the discipline might help to a criminal justice system. A synopsis of some of the most famous and widely discussed legal cases is provided, as well as an explanation of the intersections between applied linguistics and other academic fields. In a critical point of view, the author has thoroughly discussed each point of the debate. The problem of various types is mentioned and clearly analyzed. The problems were described first, followed by explanations to help readers understand the issues being discussed. Nevertheless, the article lacks compatibility, so readers might only get its explanation without knowing what kind of methodology was used to analyze the data.

This study aims to describe the definition and application of ZPD and scaffolding in English language instruction. This study is a critical review that focuses on how ZPD and scaffolding can be used to construct and structure curriculum materials. Scholars and practitioners in the field of language learning have always sought to develop a theory to facilitate the learning process for students. Some academics have focused on ways to improve students' performance in language learning or how teachers might facilitate the language-learning process. To genuinely know what to help with and how to aid, language teachers must be aware of their students' capacities. The instructor should view students as distinctive individuals with distinct needs, identities, and skills. Teachers should recognize what children can perform alone and what they need assistance with. To empower the teacher, Vygotsky (1978) proposed the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) and Scaffolding theories. In this study, we endeavor to examine the theory of ZPD and Scaffolding. Secondly, we apply this idea to the context of language teaching and learning. Lastly, we discuss the significance of these theories for language learner identity.

The purpose of this study is to develop English learning materials for MA Ali Maksum's Conversational Program. Because the presence of English materials in speaking classes is critical, material development may aid students in learning. Materials that help students improve their skills and motivate them are those that are personalised to the student's situation and background. This research and development (R&D) study employs the ADDIE instructional design model. This research consists of needs analysis, syllabus design, English speaking material development, product validation, product testing, and final product. Interviewees include experienced English teachers, an expert in English materials design, and 10th grade students from MA Ali Maksum's Conversation Program. Student questionnaires, student and teacher interview guides, and validation sheets for expert judgment are among the data collection tools used. The data obtained were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The result showed that the average interval for the English module was 2.26 x 3.24, and material expert validation ranged from 2.80 to 3.40, classifying this module as good and valid with several revisions. Therefore, this English module can be used to motivate students while also assisting them in learning English in a speaking or conversation context.
