Super-channel architectures for in-service capacity expansion of CWDM/DWDM systems 用于CWDM/DWDM系统在线容量扩展的超级信道架构

Super-channel architectures enable many narrow spaced wavelengths to be nested into one CWDM (coarse WDM) or DWDM channel at the rates up to 10 Gb/s. This gives a low-cost, growth on demand, capacity upgrades as an overlay to existing CWDM/DWDM systems.

Fault-tolerant automatic routing method with two photorefractive double phase conjugate mirrors 双光折变双相位共轭镜容错自动布线方法

We propose a fault-tolerant automatic routing method with two photorefractive double phase conjugate mirrors for a free space optical communication. This method offers automatic routing of a signal beam from the main line to the backup line for the cutoff of the main line by obstacles. The link between the transmitter and the receiver is kept efficiently without any complex optical configuration and electronic devices even if the optical path shifts or tilts. We analyze the temporal response of the signal beam intensity on the main line and the backup line to confirm the automatic routing function, and conduct a basic experiment with a BaTiO/sub 3/ crystal and Ar/sup +/ laser.

Multiwavelength polarization maintaining erbium doped fiber lasers 多波长保偏掺铒光纤激光器

In this paper simultaneous multiwavelength lasing in fiber ring laser using PM EDF (polarization maintaining erbium doped fiber) is presented. Experimental results indicate that multiwavelength lasing is connected with the elliptical polarization state of the output signal. By changing the polarization state of both the lasing signal and the pump signal and their placement towards each other we can obtain linear polarization with the maximal value and stability of fiber laser signal. It is important that the direction of lasing signal vibrations be consistent with one of the major PM fiber axes.

Photonic crystal heterostructures with controllable active layers 具有可控活性层的光子晶体异质结构

Properties of one-dimensional photonic crystal heterostructures having a photonic band gap in the near infra-red spectrum are examined and photonic crystals with n-i-p-i superlattices are designed for information technologies. For the first time, the availability of n-i-p-i crystals in photonic band gap heterostructures is considered and different configurations of microcavities are described. Optical properties and output characteristics of the photonic crystals in the GaAs-AlGaAs and GaAs-GaInP systems are determined and possible applications for optical switchers, filters, single-mode laser sources, and amplifiers are discussed.

The resonant router (ReR) is an integrated optics crossbar matrix based on ring resonators. Depending on the characteristics of the rings the ReR can operate as cross-connect (X-ReR) or as wavelength router (/spl lambda/-ReR). The analysis of the device, the spectral characteristics and the impact on a high bit rate signal are presented and discussed both on a theoretical and experimental basis. The ReR can add flexibility and extend the capabilities of a node of a transparent optical network.

Semiconductor optical amplifiers in analog optical links 模拟光链路中的半导体光放大器

The semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is a high performance and very versatile component in a wide range of optical communications systems. It offers a good solution for the implementation of very high-speed analogue links (> 10 GHz), microwave distribution networks, etc. We assess the performance of this device for analog optical systems and illustrate it by a subcarrier multiplexed link. We study linearity, modulation bandwidth, noise and dispersion in a very high speed optical link, using both experimental and theoretical methods.

Supercontinuum short optical pulse generation and its application to gain dynamics measurements of SOAs 超连续统短光脉冲的产生及其在soa增益动力学测量中的应用

Supercontinuum (SC) optical pulses at 1.5 /spl mu/m region with a spectral width of about 300 nm have been generated. By compensation of the up-chirp of the SC pulses, the pulse width has been compressed to 60 fs. We have measured the gain dynamics of wide gain-bandwidth semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) using the two-color pump-probe technique with a few hundred-femtosecond optical pulses which were generated from the compressed SC optical pulses.

The paper discusses recent progress in optical packet switching (OPS) and optical burst switching (OBS). Main factors influencing node design are considered, before focusing on wavelength router designs for OPS.
