Web 2.0 communication tools have great potential to support collaborative learning. However, it is essential to conduct research into how learners and teachers have experienced the use of new communication tools, such as discussion forums. In this contribution, our aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of a collaborative learning environment linked to a discussion forum in the context of e-learning. We examine the use of forums as a communication tool in learning contexts across four stages of the learning process via a Learning Management System (LMS) platform. We will focus on the specific integration and management of the forum at each stage, and how forums can be strategically and effectively integrated into each stage of the educational process, fostering constructive interaction and collaborative learning throughout.

This article studies how the incorporation of xanthan gum affects the rheological properties and baking characteristics of a mixture of wheat and rice flours, with an equal ratio of 50% each. Different incorporation rates of xanthan gum ranging from 0% to 1.5% were studied. These different blends’ rheological and baking parameters were assessed using an alveograph and a Chopin volumeter. The results showed that the control sample, which contained no xanthan gum, had the poorest rheological and baking properties compared with the samples containing xanthan gum. The addition of xanthan gum considerably improved the rheological and baking properties of the composite flours. The sample with the lowest gum incorporation (0.25%) had the highest swelling index, as indicated by a working value (W) 160 10-4 J and had the highest specific volume (Vsp) 1.83 cm3 /g, outperforming the other samples that contained more gum.

The present article is a review of existing technology that can help predict as well as manage floods in India. Since some of the major metropolitan cities in the country have been regularly experiencing floods over the past few decades, this not only puts property at risk, but also increases the probability of loss of life due to the floods. Today, novel techniques of predicting floods have replaced the traditional ones. One such technology is the use of artificial intelligence. This has been highlighted in the article as well. This does not mean that traditional methods for predicting and preventing floods have become outdated. It simply means that newer technology can help strengthen existing ones and aid in saving lives. The information that can be captured by the Artificial Intelligence (AI) can benefit the community in leveraging and building the community resources. There is a need to give equal importance to rehabilitation of affected people post the disaster. The authors have also highlighted how modern-day technology can help provide human services such as counselling to survivors during and after floods.

Radio Frequency Identification is a compact wireless technology that is superior and has been developed in the commercial and educational for example in automatic identification in the hospital patient registration. This research aims to improve patient registration services to be more practical during outpatient registration at hospitals. Currently, hospital outpatient registration is still carried out semi-computerized where patients come to the reception desk and then register by filling in a registration form. Next, the reception staff performs data entry from the registration form that has been filled in by the patient. If a lot of patients come, there will be a queue of patients because it takes quite a long time for the registration process. Based on the problems faced, this research carried out the development of a patient data management system using NFC cards which contain patient medical record number data. When a patient visits the hospital, the patient taps the medical record card and inputs the complaint and the doctor they are going to, then the patient gets a queue number for consultation, until the patient consults with a doctor and gets the medicine prescribed by the doctor through the use of the system. Testing the system by reading and writing data on the NFC card on the card reader/writer unit, the test results showed that the maximum reading distance for the NFC card was 7 cm with a reading angle relative to the NFC reader/writer with 300 can read the NFC card.

The Electric Environmental Control System (EECS), which uses an electric compressor to draw in outside air instead of the engine bleed, is under consideration. In this study, the case of EECS operating in a grounded parking status is discussed. The pressure ratios for the electric compressor and the air cycle machine compressor are set as variable parameters. A thermodynamic analysis is performed to clarify the operating conditions of the system, taking dehumidification into account. The coefficient of performance is obtained, and it is found that the maximum value is obtained under the condition where the pressure ratio of the electric compressor is the smallest.

Potential toxic elements in sediments and water are harmful to humans and other organisms even at low concentration. Therefore, the objective of this paper was employed to evaluate the concentrations and contamination factors of potential toxic elements (PTE) in sediments of selected areas in Egi communities (Obagi, Oboburu and Ogbogu) in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA of Rivers State, Nigeria using AAS (GBC XplorAA) after mixed-acid wet digestion of the sediment. The result of the levels of PTEs reveals that the highest mean were iron (6983±123 mg/Kg), manganese (19.42±6.87 mg/Kg), zinc (11.73±2.10 mg/Kg) copper (7.057±1.08 mg/Kg), and lead (5.871±2.76 mg/Kg). The result also showed that the most toxic metals had values as follows: cadmium: Obagi (1.244±0.01 mg/Kg), Oboburu (0.411±0.01 mg/Kg) and (0.051±0.01 mg/Kg); arsenic; Ogbogu (2.481±0.31 mg/Kg), Obagi (1.452±0.02 mg/Kg), and Oboburu (0.991±0.02 mg/Kg), copper Oboburu (5.333±0.010 mg/Kg), Obagi (6.800±0.07 mg/Kg), and Ogbogu (9.037±0.12 mg/Kg). The geo-accumulation (Igeo) values indicated uncontaminated for all the PTEs. The contamination factor shows that all samples had low contamination. The enrichment factor for Obagi; Pb (1.011), As (0.675), Cr (0.467), Cu (1.052), Zn (0.650), Ni (0.493), and Co (0.767) were of biogenic, while Cd (45.42) was of anthropogenic origin. For Oboburu; biogenic origin were As (0.321), Cr (0.188), Mn (0.003), Cu (0.574), Zn (0.709), Ni (0.313), and Co (0.454) while Pb (2.100), Cd (5.756) were of anthropogenic origin. Ogbogu; Cr (0.845) and Mn (0.807) were of biogenic while Pb (5.079), Cd (4.241), As (4.770), Cu (5.780), Zn (2.339), Ni (2.135) and Co (5.586) were of anthropogenic sources. The order of toxicity was Fe>Mn>Zn>Cu>Cr>Pb>Ni>Co>Cd>As>Hg. The order of impact were Ogbogu>Obagi>Oboburu.

The scheduling problem has always been the concern of most companies in the flexible Job shop or Job shop environments because of its complexity. It is really a challenge for researchers to solve or find out the optimum solution. The lead time production at Teak Woods line in a wood processing company, a case study, faced with about 80% of orders which could not be done on time, although its capacity meet requirements. Therefore, it is very useful and necessary to set up a production scheduling model in order to reduce production time and synchronize the product’s parts through efficient modulation in an optimum sequence of jobs on the shopfloor. A combination of Genetic Algorithm and Shifting Bottleneck Heuristics was used to find out high quality solutions. It shows that the productivity increased from 2.32 m3/day to 4.3 m3/day (up 98.27%); Processing time was reduced from 3248.6 minutes to 1352.1 minutes (down 58.38%); The sync time decreased from 7554.8 minutes to 350.8 minutes (down 95.36%).
