Mixed-level and mixed-domain modeling and simulation for optical interconnect design 光学互连设计的混合级和混合域建模与仿真

The physical-layer design of optical interconnects for box-to-box, backplane, intra-board, and intra-chip applications must address a number of considerations including system performance, manufacturing yield, reliability, power consumption, thermal properties, and cost. Also, there are multiple levels of abstraction and domains over which optical interconnect designs must be addressed. For a complete design solution, modeling and simulation across the multiple levels of abstraction in both electronic and optical domains is required. We present novel modeling and simulation approaches that address this challenge.

Multiresonator systems are treated as optical filters, producing either auto-regressive (AR) or auto-regressive moving-average (ARMA) responses, depending on whether or not the filter possesses a zero in its transfer function. In this paper, we present some results on a multiresonator systems to produce nonlinear phase shift.

In this paper we review on polymer micro-resonators incorporating both passive and electro-optic polymers. We have presented recent data on micro-resonator strain sensors. Tunable laser mirrors based on coupled electro-optic micro-resonators instead of Bragg gratings has been proposed.

Biosensing based upon molecular confinement in metallic nanocavity arrays 基于分子约束的金属纳米腔阵列生物传感

Research world-wide on biosensing techniques is motivated by numerous applications in clinical diagnostics, genetic screenings, proteomics, and single-molecule detection, for example. However, the important problem of detecting in parallel a large number of molecular species from very small samples remains an elusive goal. This work represents a step in that direction through the development of a biosensor platform in which enhanced fluorescence transduction occurs through the optical excitation of molecules located within metallic nanocavities. This study also demonstrates that the phenomenon of enhanced transmission can be used as a technique for molecular transduction in optical biosensor applications with the important benefits of an apparent increase in fluorescence yield and isolation from fluorescence produced by unbound species. Finally, we demonstrate that real-time biosensing can be performed by monitoring the fluorescence signal produced due to the hybridization between probe oligonucleotide's immobilized within the nanocavities and complementary target oligonucleotides in solution introduced through a microfluidic channel.

We have recently developed a new optical tool (wet photolithography) to etch biomimetic fluids submerged in aqueous environments. It created an array of stable holes within a phospholipid bilayer-a synthetic mimic that: captures many properties of cell membranes-simply by patterned illumination of samples using deep ultraviolet light.
