Category: Radiology Informatics and Artificial Intelligence Modality: Multiple part of sophisticated purchasers and users. This article is intended to provide an introduction to the principles of AI and data security that should be common knowledge among radiologists. AI is the use of a computer to recognize patterns or objects, draw inferences, or perform other functions that were not explicitly described or enumerated in its programming.1,2 It is a broad topic with applications in all areas of human/computer interfaces.3,4 In the work presented here, requirements for maintenance of data integrity and security in AI are described. Data integrity and security is of particular importance in AI because of the “black box” nature of machine interpretation of images. The objective of this article is to provide a rudimentary understanding of security principles in AI for practicing clinical radiologists without discussion of technical details regarding the actual algorithms used. One of the most important goals in this endeavor is an appreciation of the need for vigilance at the user level regarding practices that may lead to security concerns.

Interventional Radiology Management of Vascular Complications From Gastrointestinal Interventions 胃肠道介入治疗血管并发症的介入放射学处理
IF 0.1 Q4 RADIOLOGY, NUCLEAR MEDICINE & MEDICAL IMAGING Pub Date : 2023-02-15 DOI: 10.1097/01.cdr.0000918432.46726.b6

Recent advances in gastrointestinal interventions have led to the development of percutaneous and endoscopic procedures that can be performed in minimally invasive manner as an alternate to invasive surgery. Although the vast majority of these procedures have successful outcomes, there are potential complications. The diagnosis of these complications is often elusive. Interventional radiology can offer minimally invasive management of such complications. This educational activity aims to illustrate this through a review of several cases encountered at our institution.

Acute pancreatitis is a major cause of hospital admissions in the United States, with the two primary causes being gallstones and alcohol.1 The Atlanta classification system is an international classification on the severity of acute pancreatitis. In 2012, deficiencies and outdated nomenclature were removed to make a revised system that take into account advancements in research and clinical management. The revised Atlanta classification system (RACS) in 2012 standardized the nomenclature for acute pancreatitis and local complications to facilitate effective communication between clinicians and radiologists alike. Older terms such as pancreatic abscess, phlegmon, acute pseudocyst, and fluid collection are no longer used, as they are vague and can be misleading.

The American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) established the Organ Injury Scale (OIS) in 1984, making an initial revision in 1994, and the most recent revision in 2018. This recent revision was made to better predict the need for operative or angiointervention management, considering active hemorrhage or other vascular complications. Diagnosis of hemodynamically stable patients is made by CT; however, hemodynamically unstable patients may be diagnosed via focused assessment with sonography in trauma (FAST) ultrasound or emergency laparotomy.1–3 In this article, we discuss in depth the different OIS gradings for renal, hepatic, and splenic trauma and demonstrate the necessary information that an emergency radiologist must know through a series of cases. This knowledge will allow radiologists to concisely communicate with referring teams and help them make the appropriate management decisions for each patient case.1,4
