The properties of K-band BARITT devices for use as self-mixing doppler detectors have been studied experimentally and with a simplified computer model. The computer results predict sensitive BARITT doppler operation even at low power levels. The experimental results show that the BARITT is superior to both IMPATT and Gunn devices for use as self-oscillating doppler detectors in this frequency range.

A new injection locking process is proposed and demonstrated experimentally, where a low-frequency injection signal can be used to lock an ultra-high frequency solid-state oscillator. This process has much wider locking bandwidth than the conventional subharmonic injection locking.

A six-port system has been developed and applied to the precision measurement of power and complex reflection coefficient in WR-15 (50-75 GHz) waveguide. The system is automated except for frequency and switching control for the signal source. This system provides a time saving factor of at least five as compared to a tuned reflectometer with little if any degradation in accuracy.

An advanced microwave measurement concept has provided a significant breakthrough in the automated characterization of microwave receivers. The system integrates the accurate RF 0.1-GHz to 18-GHz signal source and digital computer of an automatic network analyzer (ANA) with-sophisticated decoding/encoding circuitry and RF signal conditioning hardware of a receiver adapter to provide fast, accurate, and economical automatic testing of microwave receivers.

Grating structures fabricated in inverted strip dielectric waveguide have for the first time been used as millimeter-wave leaky-wave antennas and band-reject filters. Experimental results agree reasonably well with theoretical predictions.
在倒条状介质波导中制备的光栅结构首次被用于毫米波漏波天线和带阻滤波器。实验结果与理论预测相当吻合。

The state and output equations for networks containing commensurate and non-commensurate delay lines have been derived using topological methods. Computer programs for the analysis and design of these networks have been developed and some of the results are reported. The method is completely general and can be applied to any network topology without any restrictions. Non-commensurate networks offer the possibility of doubling the number of restrictions that can be imposed on the network response. Networks with coupling between the transmission lines can also be solved.

The performance and applications of high power pulsed lasers in the 0.75 - 2 mm wavelength region is discussed. A narrow-linewidth, oscillator-amplifier configuration, pumped by a grating tuned CO/sub 2/ laser, has produced pulsed power levels (~100 nsec duration) of approximately 50 kW at 0.862 mm, 1.006 mm and 1.222 mm.

This paper presents a simple model that describes the odd/even impedances and phase velocities of an inter-digitated structure. Complete design information is given for a 3-dB interdigitated coupler on fused silica. Experimental data are presented for a coupler centered at 10 GHz and another at 13.5 GHz. The coupler features extremely low dissipative loss (of the order of 0.1 dB) and an excellent power split (within 0.3 dB over a 25- to 30-percent bandwidth) .
