This research intends to show whether the prevalence of individualistic or collectivist cultures in an organization can moderate the effects of the human resource policies on business performance. To date, there is a lack of literature which analyzes this relationship. A sample of 102 companies, situated in southern of Spain, with more than 100 employees was used for this study. In accordance with the statistical analysis conducted using Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) results reveal the existence of the moderating effect.

Over the past decades, there has been in Galicia, in line with what has happened in other territories, a proliferation of industrial estates that have increased the supply of industrial land in this region. These estates are immersed in a competitive struggle to attract the largest possible number of companies. One of the factors that influence their capacity of attraction is the variety of facilities, both infrastructures and services, which make available to its customers. The intention of this paper is to analyze, through multivariate statistical techniques, if the Galician industrial estates have defined horizontal differentiation strategies that enable them to meet the specific needs of the demand, i.e., firms seeking a location for carrying out their productive activities.

The aim is to analyse the efficiency of the board of directors as a corporate governance mechanism. For this purpose, we examine the effect of board composition, size, activity, leadership structure and CEO tenure on firm performance. To test our hypothesis we use a sample of 307 Spanish SMEs, none of which is listed. Our main empirical result is the negative impact of the outside directors proportion and board size on firm performance. The presence of outside directors can be said not to have resulted in improved firm performance. Despite the greater monitoring, advising and networking capacity attributed to outside directors, the firms in the sample showed a significant presence of insider directors, an aspect that may be related to their greater knowledge of the firm, with a subsequently positive effect on strategic planning decisions. The negative effect of board size could indicate that the disadvantages of worse coordination, flexibility and communication inside large boards seem to be more important than the benefits of better manager control by the board of directors.

This research has been carried out in order to analyze the development of actions to modify organizational legitimacy. We examine the relationship between the degree of organizational goals implementation and pragmatic legitimacy. Study has been developed on the European Area of Higher Education. We look at this process in the University community of six Spanish universities. The results have shown a significant and positive relationship between the degree of organizational goals implementation and their pragmatic legitimacy.

The literature review previous to the realization of this research has allowed us to observe that in the field of management of quality is necessary empirical research to analyze the structure of relations among the critical factors of quality and results. In this context, we conducted an empirical study in 186 tourist accommodation businesses certified under the “Q for Tourism Quality” in Spain, which analyzes the structure of relations among the critical factors of quality and quality results. A model based on the theory together with the hypotheses to be tested, and validated using the technique of structural equation models.
The results show that companies that want to improve the quality results should be noted that the critical factors that most influence are the policy/quality planning along with leadership. The latter factor is directly and positively related to partnerships and resources, the policy/quality planning, employee management and learning.

This paper analyzes national and regional efficiency and total factor productivity of Spanish hotels. The nonparametric frontier DEA methodology has been used to assess the levels of efficiency of the hotel firms and Malmquist indices to estimate the productive change in the period 2001-2008. The results show the region most efficient and therefore more competitive. The results also show the rates of change in productivity in the period and its main determinants: efficiency change and technical change.

Traditionally, literature has considered the need of the double fit, vertical and horizontal fit, of the human resource strategy in organizations. Its strategic importance has been empirically demonstrated in different studies, however, the complexity of this process demands deeper theoretical analysis, which allows us to identify those elements that make the double fit possible. In this study, drawing on the main human resource management perspectives and the “system strength” concept proposed by Bowen and Ostroff (2004), we discuss the three main features that define this concept and its relationship with the human resource system fit. As a consequence of our analysis, we establish three theoretical propositions that explain the link between the double fit and the system strength concept.

There is unanimous acknowledgement in the literature in that information and communication technologies (ICT) can improve the effectiveness of cooperation between tour operators and help in the development of the tourism industry. However, there is no empirical research that supports the reduced uncertainty about the future structure of the sector resulting from the changes induced by ICT. The objective of this paper is to attempt to fill this gap, firstly by identifying the change criteria found in the research literature, and secondly, to apply the resulting theoretical framework using the data collected in a survey of tourism intermediaries.
Exploratory Factor Analysis provide evidence that the intensive use of ICT in the tourism production and distribution processes generate four types of changes that affect the tourism system structure. The evolution of the sector appears to be linked to a increase of direct channels, and to the positional changes of suppliers, intermediaries, and consumers.

This paper evaluates product efficiency in the Spanish automobile market. We use non parametric frontier techniques in order to estimate product efficiency scores for each model. These scores reflect the minimum price for which each car could be sold, given the bundle of tangible features it offers in comparison to the best-buy models. Unlike previous research, we use discounted prices which have been adjusted by car dealerships to meet sale targets. Therefore, we interpret the efficiency scores as indicators of the value of the intangible features of the brand. The results show that Audi, Volvo, Volkswagen and Mercedes offer the greatest intangible value, since they are heavily overpriced in terms of price/product ratios. Conversely, Seat, Kia, Renault and Dacia are the brands that can be taken as referent in terms of price/product ratios.
