Abstract Objective to analyze the nursing staff’s experiences in taking cervical smears and other organizational factors during an educational intervention assisted by B-learning methodologies. Method a qualitative study was carried out in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, with 15 nurses. Data collection was done through semi-structured interviews based on a systematization of experiences. The Taguette program and B-learning methodologies as theoretical references were used to analyze the information. Results weaknesses were identified in factors related to the accessibility of users to the service, supplies, infrastructure, biosafety, training of health personnel, delivery of results to patients, and knowledge of the program by the users. Conclusions and implications for practice cervical cancer is a public health problem. Cervical cytology is the most widely used screening test; however, there are limitations in quality, so actions are proposed to improve the knowledge and skills of the nursing staff in their functions. The educational intervention effectively promoted comprehensive learning about taking cervical smears and allowed the nursing staff to share their experiences.

Abstract Objective to know and analyze mothers’ experiences in caring for children and adolescents with Epidermolysis Bullosa. Method a descriptive qualitative study was developed with ten mothers of children and adolescents with epidermolysis bullosa from different regions of Brazil using semi-structured interviews recorded remotely using Google Meet® between September and November 2021. The thematic analysis technique guided the appreciation of the empirical material. Results mothers aged between 23 and 53 years participated in the study. Two categories translate the maternal experience: i) the “shock” of the diagnosis and the initial challenges and ii) “Stop living to live for them”: the changes in the families’ daily life. Final considerations and implications for practice mothers experienced fear and insecurity when their child was diagnosed, and the care routine, especially the daily dressing changes, caused a physical and emotional burden. These results can support the follow-up of these families to provide them with care tools and emotional support.

Abstract Objective to describe a strategy of mediated training by bedside supervised practice for nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic and to determine nurses’ perception about contribution of bedside training for the acquisition of knowledge and skills for healthcare practice in critical care settings. Methods this was an observational, longitudinal, retrospective and descriptive study that used a quantitative approach, conducted at a large private health care facility in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The data collected refer to the period from April to June 2021. The research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, under Protocol 5.423.393. Ten procedures were selected for supervision, such as tracheal aspiration, nasogastric tube, venipuncture, donning, dressing and equipment handling. Data obtained were analyzed using descriptive analyses and statistical tests. Results of the participants (72), 87.7% were women with mean age of 33 years and their mean work experience was 9 months (50%). Initially, professionals participated in the standard 26-hour institutional training and, later, in supervised practice-mediated training. The mean time per procedure was 45 minutes. The median proficiency in eight of the procedures was eight. Most professionals rated themselves as confident (98.9%) and satisfied with the training (99.4%). Conclusion and implications for practice the training enabled a structured process of identification and monitoring of care practice, allowing for an effective strategy to provide prepared professionals who work safely.

Abstract Objective to analyze the effect of burden, stress, and depressive symptoms on the health characteristics of older adult caregivers of older adults. Method A quantitative and longitudinal study was conducted with 127 older adult caregivers to analyze the effect of burden, stress, and depressive symptoms on their health characteristics. The variables assessed included health characterization, burden, depressive symptoms, and stress. A linear regression model and Poisson test were employed, with a significance level set at 5%. Results The findings revealed that an increase of one point in the burden scale score was associated with a 0.030 increase in the number of diseases (p=0.020) and an increased risk of chronic pain (p=0.005). Similarly, a one-point increase in the stress scale score was associated with a 0.058 increase in the number of diseases (p=0.001), as well as an increased risk of a poor subjective health assessment (p=<0.001) and chronic pain (p=<0.001). Furthermore, an increase in the score on the depressive symptoms scale was associated with an increase in the number of diseases (p=<0.001), risk of falls (p=0.009), poor subjective health assessment (p=<0.001), and chronic pain (p=<0.001). Conclusions and implications for practice The worsening estimate in the scores of psychological variables poses a risk to the deterioration of caregivers’ physical health characteristics. The findings underscore the need for the development of public policies aimed at improving the quality of life for older adult caregivers.

Abstract Objective To analyze clusters of unpleasant symptoms in older men with the COVID-19 pandemic/syndemic. Method A qualitative, multicenter study was carried out between March 2021 and April 2022, in which 94 older men who answered an online form participated. The data were processed and coded with the support of the NVIVO software, analyzed by the Collective Subject Discourse technique, and applied the Theory of Unpleasant Symptoms to interpret results. Results Men between 60 and 88 participated; most self-declared heterosexual and white. The pandemic scenario and social isolation were considered situational influencing factors for different dimensions of symptoms and, as a performance for the experience of living the symptoms, remote medical consultations by Telemedicine, virtual affective interactions, and consumption of pornography on erotic websites. Conclusions and implications for practice Syndemic exposure to COVID-19 triggered clusters of unpleasant symptoms, of a biopsychosocial nature, in the health of elderly Brazilian men, which requires management by Nursing.

ABSTRACT Objective to report the use of a talking table as a data analysis and integration strategy in a mixed approach study. Method this is a report on the use of a methodological strategy for data integration and analysis in mixed methods research. Data from an analytical longitudinal study that followed 151 preterm infants in the first year of life are presented. The study addressed aspects of the health conditions of this population and integrated quantitative data, collected through an instrument to assess health conditions and qualitative data from a semi-structured interview. Results data integration in mixed studies is a methodological requirement that requires researchers to use strategies that enable and facilitate this analytical process. A talking table, through the visual integration of quantitative data expressed in tables and their analytical convergences and divergences with qualitative statements, favors integrated reading and interpretation. Conclusion and implications for practice: a talking table is considered an analytical tool for quantitative and qualitative data integration, which contribute to developing meta-inferences in mixed methods research.

Abstract Objectives to verify the factors related to the level of use of the right to health of users with type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus and understand the knowledge and the use of rights to health of these users. Methods mixed methods study, convergent type, conducted with 206 participants between November 2020 and April 2021. Data analysis was supported using SPSS® and IRAMUTEQ® software, as well as the adoption of Bardin's theoretical-methodological reference guidelines. Results a relationship was found between the score of the level of use of the right to health with monthly family income and self-reported skin color; and it was verified that the more economically vulnerable a population, the more they seek for rights, besides being evident the disparity related to ethnic groups and access to the right to health. Conclusion and implications for practice the combination of quantitative and qualitative data allowed a broader view of the knowledge and use of the right to health by individuals with diabetes. Thus, it is expected that the data obtained can contribute to a deeper reflection on the subject, favoring a qualified, informative and humanitarian assistance as a way to guarantee the right to health.

Abstract Objective to discuss the facilitating and limiting factors of nurses’ performance in controlling COVID-19 in childbirth care. Methods a descriptive and qualitative study, with 20 nurse-midwives from public services in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Data were collected from May to July 2021, through semi-structured interviews, and submitted to thematic content analysis. Results as facilitating factors there are: physical installations and resources that provide individualized use; protocol implementation; reorganization of collective environment use; and preference for care that does not require instruments or nurses’ continuous presence. As limiting factors, the following stand out: high demand for care; restricted accommodation and inadequate ventilation; lack of resources; resistance to wearing a mask; nurses’ difficulty in maintaining physical distance in care; and increase in interventionist practices among certain professionals. Conclusions and implications for practice services that underwent adaptations in environments, with available resources, co-responsibility regarding sanitary measures and where nurse-midwives modified their care process, presented better conditions to protect health and mitigate COVID-19 transmission, with attention to environment, humanization and women’s rights during childbirth.
