Abstract Objective This study aimed to analyze the demands and use of health services by international migratory clusters in the metropolitan region of Aracaju, Sergipe. Method A total of 186 immigrants were recruited, and divided into clusters according to the country of origin and continent. An epidemiological questionnaire on health conditions and care-related. Results Low and low middle income country immigrants (LMI) are younger, with lower length of stay in Brazil, elementary education, working without a formal contract, with an income of up to 1 minimum wage (p<0.05). Latin America immigrants (LAI) are approximately twice as likely to have some Chronic noncommunicable disease (NCDs), compared to other country immigrants (OCI). Age and length of stay in Brazil influence self-rated health, search for health services and having some NCDs (p<0.05). The Unified Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde) was the most sought after both on arrival in Brazil and in the last 12 months, mainly by LMI and LAI (p<0.05). Conclusion and implications for practice Differences were observed within immigrant subgroups, mainly in terms of their use patterns and the importance for cross-cultural competence in health care.

Abstract Objective to identify the importance attributed to simulated practice use in nursing undergraduate students’ pedagogic actions in the field of disasters, in an interdisciplinary and interinstitutional scope in Portugal. Methods a study framed in the qualitative paradigm, supported by inductive and exploratory reasoning. As a data collection technique, semi-structured interviews were applied to coordinators/directors of nursing courses at public and private schools in Portugal. Results simulation methodology in the field of disasters is a teaching/learning strategy for nursing students to develop skills in this area. This type of teaching/learning methodology will have a greater advantage if carried out in partnership with organizations involved in protection and rescue operations and with an interdisciplinary scope, since it enhances prevention quality and response of all actors involved. Final considerations and implications for practice considering the specific complexity and unpredictability of disaster situations, the establishment of strategic cooperation partnerships with organizations with responsibility in this field, which promotes the development of nursing students’ skills and reduces the erroneous deterministic view of organizations, regarding the ability of students to integrate these actions, is fundamental.

Abstract Objective To describe the hospitalizations resulting from the impacts of alcohol and other drug abuse and factors associated with death. Methods Cross-sectional, observational, and retrospective study, with secondary data from 3,562 admissions recorded at the Center for Information and Toxicological Assistance of a teaching hospital in northwest Paraná, using epidemiological surveillance of active search, from 2009 to 2018. Data were processed using univariate analysis (Pearson’s Chi-square test and Fisher’s exact test). Results Most were males (89.6%), and the mean age was 43.62 years (±16 years). Most hospitalizations resulted from traumatic events and other external causes (52.1%) associated with the use/abuse of alcoholic beverages (85.8%). The mean length of hospital stay was 34.6 days, and 6.0% died. There was an association between risk of death and endocrine/metabolic, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary diseases. Conclusion Hospitalizations with greater severity increase the incidence of deaths, and evidencing the associated factors directs interventions to decrease hospitalizations, reducing complications and deaths. Implications for practice The studies serve as a support for the development of prevention strategies, encouragement for improvement actions in the assistance network for users, strengthening and increasing public policies.

Abstract Objective to describe the experience of the health team in the implementation of a flowchart in an Emergency Care Unit (ECU) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method descriptive study with experience report on the implementation of a flowchart of care during the COVID-19 pandemic, in a ECU in Ceará, Brazil, between March and July 2020, where around 116 professionals were involved, performing actions such as registration, risk classification, clinical evaluation and physical examination, immediate notification, collection of laboratory tests, collection of nasopharynx swab, hospitalization and insertion in the transfer regulation center, based on the Ministry of Health (MH). Results the increase in cases of COVID-19 brought the need to reorganize the flow of care in health services and one of the strategies performed in the ECU occurred through the implementation of a flowchart that ensured agility in the dynamics of care provided to the user with respiratory symptoms, allowing clinical management and application of appropriate sanitary measures, as the MH governs, as well as the early diagnosis of cases of infection by the new coronavirus. Conclusion and implications for the practice the implementation of the flowchart streamlined the identification of possible positive cases, reduced the time to start care for this patient, and the exposure of the patient and health professional.

Abstract Objective to analyze the support offered by virtual communities to people with diabetes mellitus. Method exploratory study with a qualitative approach, developed in three open virtual communities, focused on diabetes mellitus, with the largest number of members and posts in Portuguese. The content analysis was performed using word clouds to identify the nuclei of meaning. Results the most relevant results refer to virtual communities as sites of informational support to improve self-care; and as sites of emotional and spiritual support to encourage behavioral changes. Conclusion and implications for the practice virtual communities can contribute as scenarios of care for people with diabetes mellitus, providing greater approximation between professional practices and care needs. The understanding of the meanings of the shared information can contribute to the realization of holistic and effective care practices, without, however, being restricted to biological and technicist approaches. It can also constitute a strategy to help people with diabetes mellitus in self-care, highlighting the potential of social media for health as transformative tools for professionals and empowerment of patients.

Abstract Objectives to identify the terms that represent the human needs affected in chronic renal failure patients on hemodialysis; and to cross-map these terms with those already existing in the International Classification for Nursing Practice. Method a descriptive study with a quantitative approach, conducted between February and December 2021, a period in which an integrative literature review was prepared to survey the terms that represent the human needs affected in chronic renal failure patients on hemodialysis; then, we proceeded to the cross-mapping of these terms identified with the ICNP® terms 2019/2020 version. Results 1,946 terms were identified extracted from the articles that were part of the integrative review. After the normalization and standardization process, 689 terms were excluded, resulting in the subsequent composition of 1,257 terms, which were mapped with the terms of the International Classification for Nursing Practice 2019/2020 version. In the end, the term bank consisted of 626 constant terms and 631 non-constant terms. Conclusion and implications for practice relevant terms were identified for nursing practice in the care of chronic kidney disease patients on hemodialysis. The terms will help nurses to promote a systematized care, using an evidence-based practice.

Abstract Objective To understand the work process of Family Health Strategy teams in the coordination of care, highlighting factors involved in this coordination. Method Qualitative study based on the attributes of care coordination, carried out with 18 care and management professionals between January and March 2020. Results Three final themes emerged: “Care plan”; “Standardization of practices”; and “Dialogical communication at different levels of care”. The pattern of responses points to the fragmentation of care and weakens coordination mechanisms. The exposure of restrictive factors related to the meso- and macro-organizational levels of the municipal health system reverberates in the ability of teams to coordinate care. Conclusion and implications for practice The coordination of care faces obstacles related to the work process of teams and structural issues in the organization of the health network. The contributions go beyond care and management, reaching education, research, and extension in professional training. Permanent education enables reorientations to guarantee the flow of users in the care network and provide comprehensive care to the population.
