Abstract The paper investigates the ecowomanist memory work based on context, integration, and relationality evoking a strategy of bonding through remembering. Reconstructing knowledge establishes an interstructure, which enables ecowomanists to remember themselves into being while deploying the mnemonic text as countermemory. The overriding of the fragmentation of the memory text is aided by the restorative activity in/through nature that contributes to a sense of completeness.

Abstract Education in Romania has been the reason for debate ever since the communist regime was abolished. Although a lot of reforms and actions to improve the system have been done in the last decades, there are still a lot of issues to be solved that prevent its innovation and efficiency. Moreover, the global pandemic has proved once more that Romania is not prepared for this century of fast technological changes, having an educational system abounding in old methods of teaching, overnight impractical reforms, untrained teachers, and a high rate of school dropout. This article intends to address important issues and present some solutions to improve the teaching-learning process in Romania no matter of the form it might take in the future. Qualitative and quantitative methods were used to collect the necessary data to have a better image of the obstacles that prevent our country from providing high standard education. The main conclusion of the research is that the teaching-learning process in our country needs to be rigorously improved in order to prepare the future generations of students for the demands of today’s society. Through analysing in-depth the mistakes of the past and learning from the present shortcomings, a long-term vision for success with real educational goals can be achieved in the future.

Abstract This article introduces and discusses a study that aims at shedding light upon discursive constructions of digital artifacts found in academic writing by primary school teachers of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). The study involved a group of primary school EFL teachers (further – participants), who were requested to write a series of academic essays on the topics in EFL didactics that focused on English grammar and/or phonetics and children’s literature in English. The corpus of the participants’ essays was examined for the presence of explicit references to digital artifacts. The results of the quantitative analysis of the corpus revealed that whilst the participants referred to YouTube as a digital artifact that they used in their teaching of English grammar and/or phonetics, they employed SmartBoard-related digital artifacts in order to teach aspects of children’s literature in English. These findings were further presented and discussed in the article.

Abstract Journalism offered an apprenticeship to many established American novelists from the post-Civil war period to pre-World War II. Many of them engaged in different kinds of journalism, but most of them wrote articles for newspapers by filling factual gaps with fiction. In exchange, they employed conventions drawn from journalism in their fiction writing. The paper focuses on two of these canonical writers: Ernest Hemingway and John Dos Passos to discuss how journalism was used to keep them in a direct dialogue with contemporary issues and with the innovative techniques of the new media. This interplay between their fiction writing and journalism contributed to a redefinition of American modernism.

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that literary reception follows the development of overall cultural interactions between two countries. To that aim, a comparison will be drawn between the reception of interwar English literature in Serbia and the more general framework of the stages in the two countries’ relationship.

Household drinking water quality is dependent on a number of determinants which could be arising at the source, during transportation or due to storage and handling practices. The challenge of unsafe water is even big in urban settings that are often characterized by exponential population growth, increased urbanization, industrialization and poor sanitary facilities. Contaminated water is a leading cause of water borne diseases which are a major public health and policy makers concern. In fact, Water borne diseases are third cause of mortality in Kenya whereas they are ranked second in Kisii. The study was designed to investigate the factors affecting household drinking water quality in Kisii Town that has four main zones which include: Mwembe, Jogoo, Nyanchwa and CBD. Demographics, level of awareness in terms of water quality as well as hygiene and sanitation practices of the study population were studied using questionnaires. The questionnaires were filled by interviewing household heads from 422 sampled households. Qualitative data was also obtained by use of Focused group discussions (FGDs). Perspectives of key people such as public health officers were acquired through Key informant interviews (KIIs). The study found a significant relationship between household size and water quality in terms of presence of total coliforms. The following hygiene and sanitation factors were found to be having significant relationship with presence of E. coli in household drinking water; source of water (p = 0.002), transportation container (p = 0.029), covering during transportation (p = 0.012), storage container (p < 0.001), method of drawing from storage container (p < 0.001), feces disposal (p = 0.001) and garbage disposal method (p = 0.04). The conclusion of this study is that good hygiene and sanitation practices are important in ensuring total safety of drinking water at the point of use. There is therefore need for more capacity building in this region to ensure that people do not consume contaminated water which is a major contributing factor to water-borne diseases.
