This article focuses on presenting the contemporary position of the Patriarchate of Constantinople regarding the issue of autocephaly. The analysis takes into account the documents and statements of the Constantinopolitan superiors of the 20th century and verifies them with the regulations of canon law and the Orthodox ecclesiastical tradition. As a result of the conducted research, conclusions were drawn up that shift the essence of the problem from technical issues regarding the announcement of a formal act of independence towards defining clear rules regarding mutual relations, obligations and rights of autocephalous Churches.

On Good Friday matins, after singing the antiphons and before reading the canon, the verses of the Gospel blessings are read, which in liturgical practice begin with the words of the good thief: “Remember me, o Lord, in Your Kingdom”. The phrase of the thief hanging on the Cross sounds special on Good Friday – it is the day on which these words were spoken originally. Special troparions are added to the verses of the blessings, which talk about various aspects of Christ’s passion, mainly through the prism of the thief’s repentance. In the paper, the texts are analyzed taking into account the Greek original and selected translations.

The bodies of the founders and representatives of many prominent Orthodox families from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania were buried in the catacombs of the Suprasl monastery in the 16th century. Some of the people buried in the catacombs were transferred to the altar part of the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1644. Currently, an important problem is the protection and reconstruction of the Suprasl catacombs.

The religious past of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church is very rich. Monasticism is an indispensable element of the tradition and life of the Orthodox Church. One of the conditions to have autocephaly in the Orthodox Church is having monasteries. Therefore, none of the Orthodox churches can be independent and fully formed without a steady state. Monasteries are the spiritual school for bishops. In this article was presented the genesis of the monastic life in the Drohiczyn Region. There was briefly discussed the meaning of monastic life in Orthodoxy. Also attention was focused on the development of the Orthodox Church in Drohiczyn. There was presented the history of the creation of the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Lord, the Monastery of St. Spirit in Drohiczyn and the Monastery in Wirów.

In this paper, we will try to observe the administrative documents in the field of sacral communication, collected in the book The Statutes and Regulations of the Belgrade Metropolitanate: 1857-1876, from the lexical standpoint. Specifically, we will point out the use of words of foreign origin and their linguistic and stylistic expression. The data on lexical changes are important for diachronic semantic research on the development of the lexical fund of the Serbian language.

The scope of changes and the consequences of the decision to redesign the baptismal font into a house temple in the parish house of the Orthodox Parish of St. Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian in Bialystok was analyzed. The case study presented here may be a reference to other similar investment processes in sacred space.

The paper’s subject is about the interaction between the cult of the goddess Artemis and the cult of St Thecla of Iconium throughout the Eastern Mediterranean in the initial four centuries of Christianity in particular. The phenomenon is investigated regarding the literature, the cities, social groups and personalities mostly associated with the cultural meeting of the free-spirited but fearsome goddess protector of the wilderness, virginity and childhood with the virgin heroine of the Cross and alleged apostolic companion of Paul for spreading the Logos of life to the nations.

The figure of Joseph, married to the Mother of God, is relatively little known in the Orthodox tradition. At the same time, it is very interesting from a liturgical point of view. The hymnography of the day of his remembrance, and especially of the Royal Hours of Christmas Eve, deals in a special way with the question of the doubts he had in connection with the pregnancy of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The liturgical texts also deal with the question of the age of Joseph, who is usually defined as an elder.
