Kinematic Constraints and ns-3 Mobility Models: the AUV Issue 运动学约束和ns-3移动模型:AUV问题

Recently there has been a renewed interest in ns-3 as a tool for Underwater Acoustic communications, with the integration of World Ocean Simulation System (WOSS, [4, 6]) into ns-3. However, the current implementation of ns-3 does not provide specific models suitable for AUVs (Autonomous Underwater Vehicles) mobility. An old proposal is available, made by Andrea Sacco during his Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2010 project. However, the code has never been integrated into ns-3. In order to simulate the communications of AUVs, it is mandatory to rely also on simple and effective mobility systems, where the kinematic constraints of the node are taken into account. The requirements of a mobility model for AUVs is to be able to take into account the kinematic model of the real device and to set up a feasible path between two (or more) points. This paper presents a new extensible architecture based on kinematic models, which greatly simplifies the simulation complexity.

Support Multiple Auxiliary TCP/UDP Connections in SDN Simulations Based on ns-3 基于ns-3的SDN仿真支持多个辅助TCP/UDP连接

As software-defined networking (SDN) grows beyond its original aim to simply separate the control and data network planes, it becomes useful both financially and analytically to provide adequate mechanisms for simulating this new paradigm. A number of simulation/emulation tools for modeling SDN, such as Mininet and ns-3, are already available. However, none of them supports multiple auxiliary connections in SDN simulation/emulation, which is one of the key features added in OpenFlow 1.3. In this paper, we extended the existing OFSWITCH13 framework to support multiple auxiliary connections in SDN simulations based on ns-3. This work allows multiple TCP/UDP connections to be built between a switch and a controller in the simulation. Furthermore, we performed case studies to investigate the impact of auxiliary connections on SDN performance, which is valuable for designing a scalable SDN network.

Link-to-System Mapping for ns-3 Wi-Fi OFDM Error Models ns-3 Wi-Fi OFDM错误模型的链路到系统映射

The ns-3 simulator contains detailed models of the Wi-Fi MAC layer, including beaconing, rate control, collision avoidance, block acknowledgments, and many other features. However, it relies on abstraction at the physical layer to scale well; Wi-Fi frames are evaluated by specialized interference trackers and analytical error models to arrive at frame reception decisions on a frame-by-frame basis, rather than symbol-by-symbol. Analytical models can provide fairly tight bounds for simple scenarios (additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels with single antennas and limited interference), but the industry relies on detailed link-level simulations to understand more complicated scenarios. This paper reports on an extensive campaign to conduct link simulations of Wi-Fi OFDM performance over AWGN and fading channels, using a commercial link simulator with Wi-Fi support, with results validated against published references. Next, we describe a specific implementation of a technique generally known as link-to-system-mapping, to allow a vector of per-subcarrier signal-to-noise ratios to be distilled into a single "effective SNR" value that can be used to determine performance using link simulation results of the AWGN channel. Finally, we report on the support of our link simulation results in a new ns-3 ErrorRateModel based on tables compiled from link simulation results. Our broader contributions are the link simulation programs themselves which allow others to reproduce and extend the basic tables that we provide, and flexibility in the ns-3 implementation to allow additional tables to be added over time.

Common TCP Evaluation Suite for ns-3: Design, Implementation and Open Issues 通用TCP评估套件的ns-3:设计,实现和开放问题

This paper presents the design and implementation of a Common TCP Evaluation Suite for ns-3. The proposed evaluation suite uses Tmix to generate realistic synthetic TCP traffic, and is designed in line with the recommendations from Internet Congestion Control Research Group (ICCRG). We discuss the Tmix integration in ns-3, shuffling connection vectors of the real traces, architecture and validation of the proposed evaluation suite. The correctness of the evaluation suite is verified by comparing the results obtained from it to those from an existing implementation of such a suite in ns-2. Several open issues discovered with Tmix are also discussed in the paper.

A SACK-based Conservative Loss Recovery Algorithm for ns-3 TCP: a Linux-inspired Proposal 基于sack的ns-3 TCP保守损失恢复算法:一个受linux启发的建议

This paper presents a new implementation of the SACK option and RFC 6675 loss recovery algorithm in ns-3. As is already happening in the Linux kernel, we have merged the loss recovery algorithm in the part of the code shared by all TCP variants. This merge allows bringing the performance improvements under correlated losses to all congestion control algorithms. The paper then shows the performance of TCP Hybla, Highspeed, and Vegas, under a scenario with different packet error rates, comparing the performance obtained with and without the use of the TCP SACK option. The results allow concluding that the main characteristics of the congestion control algorithms are untouched, but thanks to the implemented option their resilience to correlated losses is improved.

Communications at mmWave frequencies will be a key enabler for the next generation of cellular networks, due to the multi-Gbps rate that can be achieved. However, before this technology can be widely adopted, there are still several problems that must be solved, primarily associated with the interplay between the variability of mmWave links and the complexity of mobile networks. An end-to-end network simulator represents a great tool to assess the performance of any proposed solution to meet the stringent 5G requirements. Given the criticality of channel propagation characteristics at higher frequencies, it is of fundamental importance to properly simulate detailed propagation behaviors. Towards this goal, in this paper we present our implementation of the 3GPP channel model for the 6-100 GHz band for the ns--3 end-to-end 5G mmWave module, and detail its associated MIMO beamforming architecture.

The 2016 Workshop on ns-3 (WNS3 2016) is the eighth edition of an annual series of workshops around the discrete-event network simulator known as "ns-3". The workshop aims to gather ns-3 users and developers, together with networking simulation practitioners and users, and developers of other network simulation tools, to discuss the ns-3 simulator and related activities. ns-3 is a tool used for performance evaluation in computer networks, and this workshop offers a venue for those involved with extending or testing the tool itself to publish original work in this regard. The workshop is sponsored by the ns-3 Consortium and organized as part of a full week of activities including also training sessions, the Consortium Annual Meeting, and developer discussions.
