Pediatric professionals treat nature’s most benevolent creation i.e., the child. It is important to focus not only on oral health but also on the overall health of the pediatric patient because oral health is an integral part of total development. There are various dental materials ranging from diagnosis to rehabilitation for the management of oral diseases that are not devoid of posing a potential risk of inducing allergic reactions to Pediatric patients in the dental setting. Most importantly, a dental practitioner must be trained in medical emergencies and be capable of resuscitating a patient. Not only the dentist but also the assistants present in the clinic should be trained on how to manage any allergic emergency conditions in children in dental settings. As some of these diseases have higher rates of morbidity and mortality, management of such conditions requires a multidisciplinary medical team approach consisting of physicians, dermatologists, Pediatric dentists, and ophthalmologists. So, this review involves in-detail information regarding what is an allergy, history of allergy, allergic and immunological responses of the oral mucosa, dental materials prone to allergies, its diagnosis, and treatment modalities in child hoping that it will be helpful to every practicing pediatric professional. Â

Multiple dental inclusions are a relatively rare pathology. They are often part of complex dysmorphoses which require an interrogatory, clinical and radiological examination. The most frequent etiologies of inclusion are local. However, the presence of multiple inclusions can also be correlated with genetic syndromes or metabolic or hormonal pathologies, as well as idiopathic etiologies. There are as many therapeutic approaches as there are forms of inclusions; therapeutic abstention, extraction followed by prosthetic restoration or surgical-orthodontic treatment. Developing a treatment sequence, determining the appropriate anchorage, and biomechanical planning can be a challenge. The aim of our work is to establish an up-to-date state of knowledge regarding the epidemiology, etiological factors and appropriate treatment strategies for multiple dental inclusions. Â

Aim: Using AutoCAD, we examined the microleakage of permanent molars in Class I restorations using a conventional posterior composite resin, a bulk-fill composite resin, and a high-viscosity glass-ionomer cement (HVGIC). Methodology: In total, 33 extracted noncarious third molars were used. Class I cavities were prepared. The teeth were randomly divided into three groups of 11 teeth each, as follows: Group A (Filtek Z550), Group B (Filtek Bulk-Fill Posterior Restorative), and Group C (EQUIA Fil). All specimens were stored for 24 h at 37 °C in distilled water. The teeth were thermocycled 1,000 times between 5 ± 2°C and 55 ± 2°C prior to immersion in 0.5% basic fuchsin for 24 h. Two mesiodistal cuts of each tooth were photographed under a stereomicroscope equipped with a digital camera. The dye-infiltrated surface area was measured. Results: Statistical evaluations were performed by one-way analysis of variance [ANOVA]. One-way ANOVA showed no significant difference between the three groups in microleakage (P = 0.07). However, the lowest microleakage ratio was seen in Group C (EQUIA Fil). Similar results were obtained with all tested materials, but the lowest microleakage rate was obtained with EQUIA Fil (Group C). Conclusion: In this study, the tested materials were not completely successful in eliminating microleakage, although the lowest microleakage rate was obtained with EQUIA Fil. Aim: Investigations into Ankaferd Blood Stopper® (ABS) on bone healing have revealed positive bone regeneration effects. The exact mechanism of this positive bone tissue metabolism effect is unknown. This study’s aim is a biomechanic and biochemical investigation of the effects of local ABS application on the osseointegration of titanium implants. Methodology: Sprague Dawley rats were divided into four groups of ten rats each. The control group (n=20) received no treatment during the experimental period, while the ABS group (n=20) had ABS applied locally during the surgical application of the titanium implant before insertion into the bone sockets. After 2 (controls n=10 and ABS n=10) and 4 weeks (controls n=10 and ABS n=10) experimental periods, the rats were sacrificed and implants with surrounding bone tissues were removed for reverse torque analysis (Newton), blood sample collection, and biochemical analysis. Results: The biomechanic bone implant contact ratio detected was higher in week 4 than in week 2 in the ABS group (p<0, 05). Lower phosphor levels were detected in the ABS group than in the 4-week controls (p<0, 05). Conclusion: According to the biomechanical parameters, ABS is more effective after four weeks than after two weeks when locally applied. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the angulation and localization of unilaterally impacted canines by using CBCT. Methodology: Seventy-two images were included in the study based on the inclusion criteria. Demographic information (age and gender), localization and angulation of the impacted canine teeth were recorded. Canine angulation was measured between the two lines drawn on the coronal section of CBCT, with the first line drawn from the crista galli to the anterior nasal spine and the second line drawn along the long axes of the impacted canine teeth. Results: The mean age was 35.42±12.29 years in men and 31.10±11.09 years in women. In women, 16 of the impacted canines were on the right and 23 were on the left side, while in men, 21 of them were on the right and 12 were on the left side. Mean angulation was 34.6° (range, 17.6°-64.4°) for women and 36.2° (range, 21.4°-56.3°) for men. A weak negative correlation was found between patient age and angulation (p=0.49, rho = - 0.233). Conclusion: Angulation of maxillary impacted canines is an important predictive factor in orthodontic treatment. In the present study, no significant difference was found between angulation and canine localization and gender. How to cite this article: Laçin N, Yalçın M. Aim: Resin-containing restorative materials are widely used in the restoration of teeth. Our aim in this study is to examine the color change of beverages consumed cold on resin-containing restorative materials. Methodology: Samples were prepared using composite resins and resin-based CAD/CAM blocks. All prepared samples were kept in cold tea, cold coffee, coke, energy drink, and distilled water after polishing. The color values of the samples were measured with a spectrophotometer at the beginning, on the 1st, 7th and 30th days, and the color change values were calculated with the CIEDE2000 formula. Statistical analysis of color change values was performed using two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey multiple comparison tests (p<0.05). Results: While there was no statistically significant difference in the color changes of the resin-containing dental materials at the end of the 1st day (p>0.05), at the end of the 7th and 30th days, cold tea caused the statistically highest color change (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the color change values of cold coffee, coke and energy drink on the materials in all time periods (p>0.05). Composite resins showed more color change than resin-based CAD/CAM blocks (p<0.05). Conclusion: Cold tea causes the most discoloration on resin-based materials. While the resin-containing CAD/CAM blocks showed a color change under the AT value in all cold drinks, the composite resins showed a color change above the AT value in cold tea and coffee. Composite resins showed more color change than resin-based CAD/CAM blocks (p<0.05).\u0000Conclusion: Cold tea causes the most discoloration on resin-based materials. While the resin-containing CAD/CAM blocks showed a color change under the AT value in all cold drinks, the composite resins showed a color change above the AT value in cold tea and coffee.\u0000 \u0000How to cite this article: \u0000Altıparmak ET, Aybala Oktay E, Karaoğlanoğlu S, Aydın N, Ersöz B, Özarslantürk S. Aim: The aim of this study was to review the craniofacial anomaly results of children diagnosed with ectodermal dysplasia (ED) and to identify the oral requirements of ED cases. Methodology: The data of this study were obtained by taking clinical examinations and radiographs on forty-four (44) children (22 females and 22 males), 0-16 years aged, who were admitted to the Dicle University, Faculty of Dentistry due to dental problems and were diagnosed with ED. The number of affected siblings was ascertained, and systemic findings were evaluated. Malformations in the hair, nails, nose, skin, lips, and teeth were clinically examined. Results: The most common clinical findings were sparse hair, dry skin, sweating problems, respiratory difficulty, saddle nose, a history of fever, hearing loss, and deformation in the nails. In the intraoral and radiological examinations, findings were evaluated of conical teeth, protuberant lips, prosthetic rehabilitation, impacted teeth, and abnormal root resorption. The rates of ED in the siblings of the ED cases were determined as 39.2% in the siblings of male cases and 37.9% in the siblings of female cases. Conclusion: The frequency rates of the anomalies seen in ED obtained in this study can be considered important as a guide for further studies of individuals with ED. When multiple missing teeth and conical teeth are encountered, the dental practitioner should investigate whether or not there are other symptoms of ED, and it must not be forgotten that the dentist may be the first step in the diagnosis of this genetic irregularity. Background: It has long been suspected that oral diseases could have an effect on pregnancy outcomes in different countries. This study described the dental caries incidence among pregnant women and examined its relationships to their oral health and behavior.Patients and Methods: Two hundred pregnant women were invited to participate in this study. Their ages ranged between 18-40 years. They were inspected at Maternal and Child Hospital as well as the College of Dentistry during the period from January to October 2021. Maternal variables were identified as medical history, previous pregnancy, dental history, presence of any dental complaints during pregnancy and oral hygiene practice. Screening for mothers’ dental caries was carried out using the decayed, missing and filled Teeth index. Results: Among 200 women who delivered during the study period 28 (14%) women had dental caries. Among them 16 (6%) women were treated for dental caries. Mother's education, women with >3 children in rural regions were significantly associated less with the incidence of dental caries. While, tobacco use or passive smoking has no relationship with occurrence of dental caries. Mothers who did not brush their teeth believed that they could lose a tooth with dental caries only because they were pregnant (66.7%) in comparison to regular twice a day brushing (6.8%). A group of women (56%) were visited dentists regularly either before or during their last pregnancy had less frequently dental caries. Significantly higher dental caries (17.9%) were associated with preterm birth. Conclusions: Women in this study had a high prevalence of dental diseases and knew little about dental care during pregnancy. These results will be helpful in planning oral health programs for pregnant women. Â

Background: According to WHO, the new COVID-19 cases are rising with 4.5 million new cases in the first week of April 2021 and over 76000 new deaths globally. The risk of COVID-19 transmission in dental settings has been a concern. Therefore, this study aims to assess the transmission risk in dentistry and review the infection-control measures followed in different dental clinics worldwide and their compliance with the standard country-based or international guidelines. Methods: This study reviewed the published literature regarding the COVID-19 transmission-control guidelines followed by different dental care centers worldwide. We performed a comprehensive literature search in PubMed and Embase databases. The key guidelines were listed study-wise, divided into three parts: before entering the dental treatment, during the dental procedure, and after the dental procedure. A comparison study was conducted to assess the compliance with the country-based or internationally accepted recommendations given by WHO, ADA, CDC, etc., for dental practices in the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: During the dental procedure, a rubber dam and high volume saliva ejectors are recommended to minimize aerosol diffusion; mouth rinsing with 1% hydrogen peroxide or 0.2% povidone-iodine is recommended for patients. After the treatment, proper disinfection of the surfaces and instruments must be followed; the reusable dental instruments should be sterilized. Different guidelines were followed in different dental settings depended on the geographical locations; however, the most commonly followed guidelines were provided by WHO, ADA, CDC, and NHS.Conclusions: The available guidelines will contribute to the prevention of COVID-19 in dental settings. Although the dental clinics are adopting standard guidelines to prevent COVID-19 transmission, the joint efforts and cooperation of both patients and dental practitioners are needed to make it successful. Therefore, both parties should strictly adhere to their respective recommended guidelines and hand hygiene practice in dental settings.

A beautiful smile comprises a perfect balance of the white and pink. A gummy smile has been a prevalent esthetic disorder with varied etiologies including of skeletal, dento-alveolar, or soft-tissue origin. It can be managed by a variety of treatment modalities after appropriate diagnosis and treatment planning. If it is due to jaw deformities, altered passive eruption or tooth malpositioning, the corrective measures incorporate orthognathic surgery and orthodontic treatment. However, this requires hospitalization and entails significant discomfort. Lip repositioning is a simple and predictable technique that restricts the muscle pull of the elevator lip muscles thereby reducing the gingival display. This case report demonstrates the successful management of a young patient with moderate gummy smile using the conventional LR surgery thereby proving to be a promising alternative that is less invasive in nature and with minimal postop complications. At 6 months, the results were stable.
