The emergence of Brutalism in Serbian architecture is mainly connected to the works of several architects, with Branislav Jovin being one of the most significant authors in this group. He is well-known for his project 'Belgrade Underground' and numerous other works, such as traffic intersection Mostar, the building of Institute of Urbanism Belgrade, New Belgrade Municipality building, etc. Jovin was equally successful as accomplished creator of ground floor architecture. His solutions for the pedestrian zone in Knez Mijalova Street and part of the Republic Square, the Sava River Quay and free space in front of Yugoslavia Hotel and the Congress Center Sava determined to a great deal the cosmopolitan character of Belgrade. When in 1970 he completed the building of Institute of Urbanism Belgrade, by using natural concrete as a tool to achieving expressiveness, Jovin, along with other architects - Mihajlo Mitrovic, Ivan Antic, Ljupko Curcic, Bozidar Jankovic, Branislav Karadzic, Aleksandar Stepanovic, laid the foundations for research of brutalist aesthetics in Serbia. Although majority of his works include urbanist-architectural projects and management of outdoor spaces, the inspiration for this interview came primarily from his architectural achievements. The aim of the interview was to emphasize the circumstances that led to emergence of brutalist tendencies in Serbian architecture, as well as to encourage further research of the brutalism aesthetics.

In broader terms, the paper refers to the topic of brownfield regeneration, as one of the most complex mechanisms for sustainable spatial development. In addition to the fact that brownfield regeneration demands a variety of instruments, such as: tax subsidies, the change of land use ownership, soil remediation, planning regulative amendments, etc., the complexity of brownfield regeneration is primarily seen in a number of stakeholders participating in such a process. Thus, the paper focuses on the social aspect of brownfield regeneration - precisely, on researching the community role and reviewing the possibilities for achieving the 'local' interests in complex developmental processes. The main research hypothesis is that brownfield regeneration positively affects the creation of and strengthening the social cohesion in the areas close to the brownfield site. More precisley, the paper presents the ways towards strenghtening social cohesion in the initial phase of the brownfield regeneration process, as well as the effects of such a process in its operationalisation phase on social cohesion. The thesis is examined by two main parameters: 1) participation of local community, and 2) social costs and benefits of brownfield regeneration versus greenfield investment. The research results are presented in the form of argumentative essay. In fact, the critical overview of arguments for and against the main research hypothesis is provided based on the review of interdisciplinary literature in the domain of brownfield regeneration. Such research organisation ensures the identification and description of the measures needed for strengthening social cohesion, as an utmost goal of this research. The final research contribution is about offering the guidelines for similar methodological approach in urban research.

Open-plan is a term which in architecture denotes the principle of spatial integration of functions. Although it has been widely used both in science and in practice, not very much research has been directed at essential understanding of this term. Since the 1950's, when it was first introduced in the architecture glossary, open-plan has constantly been connected to the principle of flexibility and fluidity of space, but up until now, their relation has not been adequately explained. On the other hand, although open-plan is a concept used generally in all modern living spaces, as it contributes to the quality and space comfort, particularly in smaller living spaces, there has been no research that aimed to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of open-plan, as well as approaches to space integration of housing functions. This is why the aim of this research paper is to shed some light on the origin of this concept, its development in housing architecture and to present the most significant examples that applied the concept of open-plan in a characteristic way. A further aim of this paper is also to emphasize the existence of various design approaches, all contributing to the creation of specific forms of open-plan.

The subject of this study was space within space concept which is one of the universal principles in architecture. This paper analyses typical contemporary and historical examples where this concept has been applied in such a way that one or more independent spatial and functional unities appear within open plan space. The emphasis was on examining various reasons that resulted in the application of space within space concept in certain situations, with particular attention directed towards generalization and explanation of the key design approaches where this concept has been most frequently applied in practice.

Within the recent years contemporary planning frameworks, regarding urban development in the context of climate change, are giving special attention to the development of green walls. Therefore, the paper presents an overview of the actual frameworks that promote the use of this type of greenery, with special attention on international experiences and current situation in the Republic of Serbia. The paper specially stresses the importance of green walls in the context of climate change and its positive influence in the process of adaptation and, above all, in terms of energy savings, reducing air temperatures in urban areas, the urban heat island effects etc. One of the conclusions of the paper points out the necessity for establishing an appropriate policy framework aiming to promote green walls in the Republic of Serbia and as priority activities set out the following: establishment of the procedural framework for adoption of the Law on the protection and improvement of green spaces, developing Regulations for green wall construction and researches aiming to quantify the positive impact of green walls in the context of climate change.

Debating the complexities of the relationship between space, time and images, have evolved over the paradigmatic change of perception of urban space toward a movement perspective, and encompassed significant changes in the way we see and produce space. In this paper I will point out the modalities of architectural production that break the design process tradition, as it turned out as unable to support time-based modes of reception of architectural and urban ideas. A discursive analysis of relations between architectural and cinematic space will be shown as a sample which problematizes the issue of time in an altered reality of the recorded material. I will deal with the methodological and theoretical analysis of the relations between the phenomenon of space, time and movement, with the intention to show how cinematic device utilizes its own unique features to make visible movements, to articulate time and interpret linear and the non-linear projection of sequence between cinematic space and real architectural space. As a field of my research, I will take the analogy from the practice of film montage, architectural experiment and multi-screen installation.
