A methodology for didactic purposes of studies on the economic viability of a solar photovoltaic power plant is proposed. The study was done considering the cost of operation and installation in 25 years of a plant of 3 MWp. The methodology was organized in steps, since the study of solar irradiation in the region until economic analysis of investments. The proposed methodology was validated through a case study, in which were analyzed three scenarios of types of investments.

In light of the currently understood importance of sustainability, this article aims to analyze the training of civil engineers at the University of Pernambuco to verify if the concepts and applications of the three main dimensions of sustainability (environmental, social, and economic) are covered in the classroom, during practical applications, and within the university’s own management. The University of Pernambuco was recently named the sixth best civil engineering program in northeastern Brazil by the newspaper Folha de São Paulo. In this study, the curriculums of the undergraduate and graduate civil engineering programs were analyzed and specific questionnaires were developed for professors and students with questions related to teaching, learning, and practice of sustainability concepts. Following the application of the questionnaires, the responses were compiled and analyzed in order to verify the inclusion of sustainability concepts in the training of engineers, as well as to measure the importance of environmental, economic, and social dimensions from the perspectives of both teachers and students. The results showed that most students and teachers value and claim to understand the implementation of sustainability concepts in civil engineering, but that not all can distinguish the actions of the social dimension when applied to construction, having a greater appreciation and understanding of the environmental and economic dimensions.

The choice of distribution channel is one of the main decisions inserted in Marketing Management of a company, which significantly interferes with their success. On the other hand, the relationship between the company and its distributors should be mediated by an incentive system to arouse the interest of distributors to sell the manufacturer’s brand. This study characterized as an applied research aims to analyze the variables that motivate distributors to negotiate the products of an ice cream and ice cream industry based in João Pessoa. As a method of data collection used a field research applied to the company manager and a sample of 66 of its channel participants. The results indicated that the main criteria used by the manager to select the channel members are: size, location, facilities and opening the participant to strengthening the brand, having a greater number of small retailers. As for motivation, legitimate power, and rewards the kind delivery without delays, and brand image are the criteria most commonly used by the manufacturer to motivate its distributors. The results suggest the need for expansion of types of commercial channel members between manufacturers and distributors.

Project-based Learning (PBL) has been used – since 2013 – in the subject “Integrated Project in Production Engineering I” offered to first year students enrolled on the Production Engineering course at the School of Engineering of Lorena, University of São Paulo. The objective of such methodology is to expose the student to situations very similar to those they will experience in their professional life in the future. One of the desirable competencies a good engineering professional should have is to be able to work as a leader or subordinate, as they will be in one of these positions inevitably. Considering that, in the last years, the perception of leadership has shifted from a single skill to a set of desirable attributes owing to the market needs; this project aims to analyze the students’ perception of such competency. In 2015, a case study was applied to the students from the 1st semester, a total of 41, divided in 6 teams composed of 6 or 7 members each. On applying PBL, two leaders were selected among the members of each team: The first one volunteered in the first lesson, and the second was chosen by the group in the midsemester. In order to collect data, questionnaires were applied in the middle and at the end of the semester, and the students’ Whatsapp chat histories were compiled and analyzed, as this app was used at all the time by all teams. The results showed acknowledgment of the figure of the leader throughout the project, being the second leader better evaluated than the first. Moreover, on analyzing the Whatsapp chat histories it was possible to ascertain the acknowledgment of attitudes such as initiative, participative, shared and constant communication, organization and accountability.

This research examines the contributions and challenges associated with internal audits at Verdegreen Hotel, a major hotel in the city of João Pessoa-PB, which had been chosen given its implanted and certified Environmental Management System (EMS) ISO 14001. This is a descriptive research based on a qualitative case study. The techniques used in the methodology were: bibliographical survey on the ISO norms that approach the EMS themes and audit; Questionnaires, applied to the members of the green committee; And documentary analysis of the EMS manual. For this study, three categories were selected: i) instruments, ii) procedures, and iii) human resources. Based on the content analysis of the responses of the questionnaires applied and the EMS manual it was verified that the internal audits of the Verdegreen Hotel are based on well-defined methods of collecting and processing information and maintains training programs for its employees. Based on the results of the research it became possible to understand how those issues related to the application of internal audit are opportunities to improve the EMS.

The MATLAB is one of the main software used in exact sciences and engineering courses for the teaching of programming and numerical scientific research, because of its high level syntax and several toolboxes from your friendly programming environment. Despite the many advantages, it is proprietary software that presents the high cost of licensing for Educational Institutions and individual use. Besides, it has closed source code and native programs “.m” is not fully compatible in other programming environments that support this file format. Although there are free software’s and open-source projects with relative similarity of IDE and code syntax, many of these have lower computing performance when compared to MATLAB. Thus, the present study aims to present the programming language JULIA as an alternative to MATLAB in numerical and symbolic programming education, and scientific research. In this work the characteristics of the two programming languages are compared and benchmark computations between the languages are presented in which it is evaluated the runtime and the results of the calculations. For this, it has been implemented the Recursive Fibonacci series algorithms, Berstein polynomials 2D plots, native functions of symbolic calculus, algebraic operations and Runge-Kutta 45 solution for numerical differential equation. JULIA has shown competitive performance compared to MATLAB in the tests made, being an interesting alternative in engineering education and research.

The Alto Tibiri is a pegmatite body located in the southern region of the Rio Grande do Norte, in Parelhas city, geologically inserted in the Borborema Pegmatite Province and occur intruding the mica schists of the Seridó Formation. Currently, both mica and feldspar are commercially exploited in this pegmatite body. In the field missions, 39 outcrops were described, in each one the main texture and mineralogical aspects of the outcropping rock were described. The geological mapping has allowed us to distinguish two types of schists, based on content and size of the mineral phases. There is a garnet rich schists and other with a relevant cordierite content. The studied region shows narrow pegmatite dykes, composed of quartz, feldspar, muscovite and/or biotite and black tourmaline, these dikes were classified as homogeneous. It’s possible to observe in Alto Tibiri a welldefined mineral zoning, as follows: i) border area, marked by the abundance of muscovite; ii) Zone II, composed of quartz, feldspar and mica, in which the main mineral resources occur (tantalite, spodumene, apatite, etc.) and iii) quartz pockets. The observed mineral zoning is similar to that described as mixed traditional pegmatite bodies.
