In this article, I identify the implicit dependency structure that links the ethnic and aesthe-tic art histories – a tension that unfolds live in Kleemann’s approach to blubber and paint in the performance Orsoq III: Subarctic Sushi. I focus on examining how Kleemann’s work introduces an embodied manner of relating to knowledge and history by collapsing hie-rarchies and demonstrating the unstable and unfinished development of these histories in and around Greenland.

This article reflects on the artist collective UFOlab: Unidentified Foreign Object Laboratory. During its active period from 2004–2010 the collective was formative in creating a critical adoption epistemology challenging the knowledge regime that underpins transnational adoption. The article suggests that UFOlab politicized transnational adoption through a number of interventions aiming to transform the figure of the adoptee from a passive and infantilized object of knowledge into a critical and political subject.

What does erasure render visible? This article examines carefully crafted lacunae in Jeannette Ehlers’ video artwork Black Magic at the White House (2009) where the visual field is simultaneously the site of bodily disappearance and a space for negotiating colonial-historical erasure. The article argues that this is achieved through a fabulative artistic practice in which boundaries between the authentic and inauthentic are made indistinct.

Edvard Munch rarely depicted images of women bathing in interior settings. Yet these paintings are particularly fascinating since both the bathing space and the bathers remain elusive as it is quite unclear where the women are bathing and for what purpose. This article analyses two of Munch’s interior bathing scenes from the fin-de-siècle through discussing both social understanding of interior bathing spaces at that time and the implications for the female bather within the bathing locale.
