Image Understanding as a Step to Image Utility Assessment 图像理解是图像效用评估的一个步骤

A method of medical visual documents' utility assessment is presented. It is shown that the concept of image utility consists of many aspects including image content understanding, image quality assessment etc. For image content understanding ontological models can be used. In particular, using ontological models based on the concepts of extended algebra of relations is proposed. The general idea is illustrated by simple examples.

A Robust Feature Extraction Methodology for Improved Face Detection Performance within a Complex Background 一种鲁棒特征提取方法提高复杂背景下人脸检测性能

A novel methodology is presented in this paper for dealing with the problem of face detection within a complex background. The proposed approach integrates a robust feature extraction technique based on a specific method of eigenanalysis of the unique classes identified in the problem at hand, with neural network based classifiers. Such an eigenaiysis aims at identifying principal characteristics of the above mentioned uniquely identified classes. Each unknown image, in the testing phase, is then, analyzed through a sliding window raster scanning procedure to sliding windows identified, through a first stage neural classifier, as belonging to one of the unique classes previously mentioned. After such a sliding window labeling procedure it is reasonable for a second stage neural classifier to be applied to the testing image viewed as a sequence of such labeled sliding windows for obtaining a final decision about whether a face exists within the given test image or not. Although the proposed approach is a second stage procedure, it is obvious that its most critical phase is the first stage classification process, since, if good identification/ labeling accuracy could be then obtained, it would facilitate final classification stage a lot. Therefore, the experimental section of this paper is conducted with respect to analyzing face specific classes labeling accuracy at such a first classification stage.

In this paper, we describe one method how we can combine two different line scanning based spectral cameras, visible and infrared, to one measurement process and how we can automatically combine their different spectral areas to one wide area from 400 nm to 1700 nm. Proposed method has been used in scientific projects and we present two practical applications where this system is used and what benefits we get from it. Main part of this study is that how we can make more effective measurement process by using two line scanning based spectral cameras at the same measurement process and how we can combine those spectral cameras' spectra. We also describe differences between common spectral imaging systems. We also represent one of our produced software algorithm which we can use in measurement process.

Image Language Terminal Symbols from Feature Analysis 图像语言终端符号的特征分析

This article presents an approach to generate the image description in the form of sequence of symbols, suitable for further processing with parsing and grammar inference tools. The algorithm assumes presence of a training set of example images. From this set a number of image patches is selected. Using sparse kernel feature analysis, the similarity functions for each symbol are prepared. These functions are used to get terminal symbol locations within analyzed image. A list of symbol locations is then reduced into a tree. Application experiments performed with a database of car images show the potential of the method to represent the structure of object images.

This experimental study explores the potential of insulin molecules and other proteins, enzymes and dipolar ions, alone, or in conjunction with colloidal gold nanoparticles and other nanoparticles to modulate and enhance the detection process of optical signals by providing unique signal characteristics, such as optical gain, light shaping, and optical control capabilities. The experimental results of this study indicate that insulin molecules can be used to enhance and amplify incoming light photon signals. Further signal amplification and enhancement has been observed by doping insulin molecules with colloidal gold nanoparticles. These observations have significant implications on the development of novel biomolecular photonic materials, optical devices, sensors, nanodevices, therapeutical and imaging systems.

A numerical evaluation of an optimal setup for a microwave axial tomograph aimed at the inspection of wood 针对木材检测的微波轴向层析成像的最佳设置的数值评价

This paper presents the results of model based numerical simulations (Ansoft HFSScopy) used to analyze the scattering of the electromagnetic field on sample objects, in order to determine an optimal setup for a new microwave tomograph aimed at the inspection of wood trunks. Such a tomograph is targeted to obtain images of the cross section of dielectric cylinders. In particular, it was used to inspect wood slabs and trunks in order to search for defects and voids. For best results of the inversion (tomographic image reconstruction) algorithms, it is important that the measured data (samples of the scattered electric field) are collected under an optimal setup configuration of the sample, the illuminating and the pick-up antennas.

Image Indexing using Spatial Multi-Resolution Color Correlogram 使用空间多分辨率颜色相关图的图像索引

Color correlograms are efficiently used for image indexing in content-based image retrieval. Color correlogram extracts not only the color distribution of pixels in images like color histogram, but also extracts the spatial information of pixels in the images. The characteristic of the color correlogram to take into account the spatial information as well as the distribution of color pixels greatly attracts the researcher for content based image retrieval. Even though, a single correlogram is not enough for efficient and robust image retrieval system. In this paper, we propose the use of color correlogram on multiresolution images. The multiresolution color correlogram gives much better retrieval efficiency, but with higher computations. The multiresolution images are generated using the median filters.

This paper presents a suggestion of using the automatic understanding methods in a telescope guiding system, which is an example of the real-time system. In the presented approach the guiding system using the knowledge base is able to describe the time-varying situation and respond to it adequately. The description of the observation process is given by the sequence of some previously defined image transformations.

Contribution of Active Contour Approach to Image Understanding 主动轮廓法对图像理解的贡献

The paper proposes a formal, though a simple, model of the activity of human vision system. That model serves as a reference point for description of relational and contextual recognition and allows to formulate a definition of image understanding problem. As a potential solution of that problem active contour methods are proposed, which do not possess some limitations of classic recognition algorithms. Moreover, they can be used not only as methods of construction of contextual pixel classifiers, but also as methods of identification of relations between any arbitrary more complicated structures (concepts).

As a potential solution of that problem active contour methods are proposed, which do not possess some limitations of classic recognition algorithms. Image Auto-focus System Based on Remote Web Monitor 基于远程Web监视器的图像自动对焦系统

The algorithm based on digital image is widely used now. This paper puts forward a new auto-focus algorithm. The method adopts the smallest isotropy wavelet filter to get an image sequence of edge feature, then chooses the best-focused image with a criterion of energy target function, therefore fixes the accurate focus position. The remote monitor of auto-focus based on Web is carried out on an embedded system. Taking a microscope imaging system as a research object, the configuration of hardware platform and the development of software for an auto-focus system are finished
