In this paper, we present a recursive method for the optimization of humanoid robot motions. The method is based on an efficient dynamics algorithm, which allows the calculation of the gradient function with respect to the control parameters analytically. The algorithm makes use of the theory of Lie groups and Lie algebra. The main objective of this method is to smooth the pre-calculated humanoid motions by minimizing the efforts, and at the same time improving the stability of the humanoid robot during the execution of the planned tasks. Experimental results using HRP-2 platform are provided to validate the proposed method.

In this study, 2-parameter cosh window is modified to improve its spectral characteristic in terms of the ripple ratio by proposing a new additional parameter. It is observed that an increase in the new parameter results in wider mainlobe width and smaller ripple ratio. By choosing the suitable combinations of the two adjustable parameters for the proposed modified window, the optimum windows that yield the minimum ripple ratio for N=51 and N=101 are found. The simulation results with the comparisons to Kaiser and cosh windows for a wide range of the normalized width demonstrate that with the proposed additional parameter an efficient improvement in the spectral characteristic of cosh window in terms of the ripple ratio is obtained. Also, two specific comparison examples are given to show the performance of the proposed modified window. In the first example, it is concluded that the proposed window performs the same ripple ratio and mainlobe width by using less window coefficients compared to Kaiser and cosh windows. The second example demonstrates that using the suitable adjustable parameters, the proposed modified cosh window can perform good results in terms of the ripple ratio and contrast ratio compared to the windows in the literature.

As Malaysia is rapidly growing in terms of the advancement of science and technology, unprecedented demand for better graduates has been created. However, industry often criticizes that existing university curricula fall short to tackle the practical issues in the industry. For instance, the industry expects the university to train their future employees with the latest technology. In this paper, we propose a smart synergy model to overcome the above-mentioned mismatch. Our hypothesis is that there are the needs for well-expressed and smart connectivity between academia and the industry. This paper highlights strategies to abolish the misalignment between university and industry. Our main concept is to blend the academic rigidity with the industrial relevance. First we analyzed the trend of university-industry partnership in Malaysia. We report the success story and issues behind the industrial training program at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University Malaysia Sarawak.

This paper deals with the evaluation of Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) at the level of their interaction. Two problems that may be a bias in the evaluation and measurement of interaction are discussed. The first one is the difference between the quantities of information carried by a unit of interaction in two systems having different architectures. The second one concerns the interaction units that are received and cannot be exploited by the agent. In this work, an evaluation based on the weight of the information brought by an interaction is suggested. In order to achieve this, a MAS model, on which the evaluation is based, is defined. Then, the different problems and solutions which will help to evaluate the interaction are studied. Finally, the approach is applied on two different implementations that solve the same problem.

The advantages of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) over other diagnostic image modalities are its high spatial resolution and excellent discrimination of soft tissues. Many neurological conditions alter the shape, volume, and distribution of brain tissue; MRI is the preferred imaging modality for examining these conditions which requires segmentation into different intensity classes which are regarded as the best available representations for biological tissues. There is a need for computer analysis of MRI such as precise delineation of tumors and reliable, reproducible segmentation of images. The aim of this work is to propose a FCM clustering algorithm basis neural network for MRI segmentation.

Machine vision is an application of computer vision to automate conventional work in industry, manufacturing or any other field. Nowadays, people in agriculture industry have embarked into research on implementation of engineering technology in their farming activities. One of the precision farming activities that involve machine vision system is automatic weeding strategy. Automatic weeding strategy in oil palm plantation could minimize the volume of herbicides that is sprayed to the fields. This paper discusses an automatic weeding strategy in oil palm plantation using machine vision system for the detection and differential spraying of weeds. The implementation of vision system involved the used of image processing technique to analyze weed images in order to recognized and distinguished its types. Image filtering technique has been used to process the images as well as a feature extraction method to classify the type of weed images. As a result, the image processing technique contributes a promising result of classification to be implemented in machine vision system for automated weeding strategy.

A traffic scheduling algorithm based on the RPS model called FPFQ is proposed. In FPFQ, the result of finishing potentials sorting algorithm is used for recalibration of the system potential function. This reduces the system potential function complexity to O(l) while its fairness index is still comparable to that of SFPQ and WFQ. Analytical methods are invoked to show the effectiveness of FPFQ in terms of Delay bound and fairness index.

In this paper, we describe a Pilgrim tracking system. It is a distributed system that is composed of several components. The system is divided into two parts: The network infrastructure part and the application part. The focus of this paper is on the application part where the design and the architecture are highlighted. The proposed system is intended to make it possible: to collect the exact statistics of the pilgrims and the manner they are dispersed, to provide for locating lost or disoriented pilgrims, to help perform quick re-location of pilgrims, and to assist the pilgrims to locate their family members and helping units. It maintains various databases that dynamically interact to keep track of the desired data. The system has been fully implemented supporting a universal interface to make it possible to communicate with other pertinent systems that respect standard communication protocol.

Content-based image retrieval is an active and fast advancing research area since the 1990s as a result of advances in the Internet and new digital image sensor technologies. However, many challenging research problems continue to attract researchers from multiple disciplines. Content-based image retrieval uses the visual contents of an image as features to represent and index the image to be searched from large scale image databases. The quality of the selected features relies mainly on the degree of the invariance property that is ensured under acceptable manipulations. This paper proposes an efficient method for compactly representing color and texture features and combining them for image retrieval. The performance of retrieval based on these compact descriptors obtained by the proposed techniques is analyzed and tested on wang database images yielding satisfactory accuracy rates. A comparative study demonstrated that the developed feature extraction scheme outperformed the other schemes being compared with.
