We report the observed behavior of various phase-change (PC) samples under short-pulse laser irradiation. A pump-and-probe technique is used to elucidate the dynamics of melting and amorphization, as well as the mechanism of multi-pulse crystallization. We also obtain estimates of the thermal constants of the PC layer as well as those of the adjacent layers

We report the error rate improvement of super-resolution near field structure (Super-RENS) write-once read-many (WORM) disk at a blue laser optical system. (Laser wavelength 405 nm, numerical aperture 0.85) We used a disk of which carrier level of 75 nm is improved. We controlled the equalization (EQ) characteristics and used the adaptive write strategy and advanced partial-response maximum likelihood (PRML) technique. We obtained bit error rate (BER) of 10-4 level with new signal processing techniques. This result shows high feasibility of super-RENS technology for practical use

Two structures Blu-ray type super-RENS with a mask layer of Sb70Te30 or Sb2Te3 were studied theoretically and experimentally. The disks were firstly designed and optimized by simulate the overlap contour of laser beam and aperture formed on mask layer. The disks were fabricated and tested. The thermal stability on different structures was measured and analyzed

The paper proposed a novel super-RENS ROM disc with a narrow track pitch using a group tracking technique, GTS-super-RENS ROM disc. The group tracking technique enabled to increase capacity in the radial direction up to 1.5 times. Using GTS method, a -20 dB cross-talk from the neighbor pit trains was obtained. It was confirmed that capacity of GTS-super-RENS ROM disc will become a promising method to further increase capacity in super-RENS disc world
