The paper presents the results of research conducted with the aim of determining the contribution of textbooks on nature and society of the first cycle of education in the countries of the Western Balkans to the formation of the concept of national symbols and features. In the theoretical part of the paper, a description of the etymology of the official national symbols and features (flag, coat of arms and anthem) of the countries of the Western Balkan region is given. The theoretical analysis method and content analysis method were used. The units of analysis are sentences of the basic textbook content, visual content - pictures, photographs, drawings and questions and assignments in the domain of didactics and methodology instruments. The research included nature and society textbooks for younger elementary school students (N = 23). The results of the research showed that nature and society textbooks insufficiently affect the formation and strengthening of the concept of national symbols and signs, and that there is imbalance in their coverage and development, both as a whole and at the level of individual categories. It has been shown that there is an approximately equal representation of content that promotes national identity, but that the textbooks in the Republic of Croatia have, compared to the others, the most content dedicated to national symbols and signs, while in terms of the representation of basic textual content and their didactic-methodological interpretation, Slovenian textbooks lead the way. The textbooks used in the European Union member states have more content related to national symbols and signs within all analyzed categories. Foreign publishers have proven to be less sensitive to the national narratives of the countries to which they intend the textbook content.

Today’s generation of young people is immersed in the virtual world, which increasingly leads to a negative trend - socially isolated individuals. Recently, there has been an accelerated development of social networks that have changed the way of communication and interaction between people, which has had a special impact on young people. There are multiple attempts to reduce the time spent on social networks because of the countless consequences that arise: anxiety, depression, irritability, restlessness, frequent mood swings. Therefore, the main problem was to examine the relationship between virtual behavior on social networks with adolescent anxiety while the goal was to assess the virtual behavior of young people in relation to gender and school success as well as the relationship of virtual behavior on social networks with anxiety in raising awareness of the importance of prevention and adolescent mental health care. The research was conducted among 215 high school students, ages 15 to 19 years from the Tuzla Canton, Bosnia and Herzegovina. There were 117 male (54.42%) and 98 (45.58%) female participants. The questionnaire used to analyze virtual behavior on social networks (VPDM) is divided into six subscales (DM addiction, alienation, socializing, negative attitude, self-presentation, and virtual self). The Anxiety Rating Scale (AT 29) was used to assess anxiety. The findings show that all facets of virtual conduct on social networks are associated with anxiety. When it comes to gender differences in the examined aspects of virtual behavior, the results show that girls achieve statistically significantly higher results on the dimensions of dependence on social networks and virtual alienation compared to boys, while these gender differences did not prove to be statistically significant on other aspects of virtual behavior. In addition, with the exception of virtual alienation, the study discovered a negative relationship between academic success and features of virtual behavior. The results indicate that in order to make more rational use of social networks, strategies are needed for preventive action, the preservation of the mental health of young people and improvement of their school achievement.

The development of digital media had made the greater transparency of the corruption phenomena possible, but also the possibilities of active citizen participation in the prevention and fight against corruption. On the other hand, the majority of media in Bosnia and Herzegovina are under dominant political influence which negatively reflects on the intermediation of the corruption phenomena to citizens in terms of objective informing, education, and citizen participation in democratic processes. The topic of this research is the citizens’ opinion about possibilities and ways of use of digital media in perception, prevention, and fight against corruption. The research had been carried out via a method of quantitative and qualitative analysis of surveys on a sample of 399 participants.

Political thought between the two world wars in Bosnia and Herzegovina was marked by substantive educational activity and production with pan-political characteristics. For this reason, it is important to investigate to what extent the thematic focus of Bosnian political thought at that time corresponds to the most significant contextual events in the domestic and extra-national spheres of politics. The theoretical approach that indicates that political activity, behavior, and thinking are determined by challenging contextual determinants represents one of the classic and fundamental research models in political science. Nevertheless, the achieved level of political awareness, the development of political culture, and the established system of government in a specified state context can significantly influence the thematic range of political opinion as well as the participation of citizens in the political process. Therefore, it is necessary to take into account the mentioned contextual and variable determinants in the analysis of the thematic orientation of Bosnian political thought in the period between the two world wars. The dominant narratives and thematic preoccupations in Bosnian political thought at the time will be identified and detected, after the research is conducted, and their compatibility with the key political challenges will be examined.

The fact that popular culture and music, as part of the mainstream, continuously change and adapt, places them within the framework of contemporary critical theory. In this paper popular music is analyzed through the adaptation of the production of meaning to the dominant ideology and thus enables the understanding of the connection between socio-cultural parameters, language system, political, economic factors, and art. As a reflection of socio-political references, in Serbia, in the last three decades, musical ideas that grew out of the folk and street culture of the city have become intertwined. This paper represents a sociolinguistic analysis of the new musical thought of the singer-songwriter Ana Đurić, who goes by the artistic name Konstrakta, who, within the campaign for the Eurovision Song Contest in May 2022 in Turin, extended her artistic influence beyond the national borders of Serbia. In the analyzed musical content, socio-political and economic concepts of reality in Serbia stand out. From the critical theory standpoint, music is placed sociolinguistically and is interpreted from textual, visual, musical, and non-musical (informative) aspects. The results of such analysis confirm its multimodal function and form a special narrative in which reality in music is represented by music within the framework of reality. Showing the ability to combine the elements of her own both musical and non-musical expression, Ana Đurić proved herself to be comprehensible to an audience of all ages, to those who understand Serbian, but also to others who understand Konstrakta’s parallel, visual language. The narrative she creates leads to the conclusion that the level of music consumption as pure entertainment has become a secondary track of the Serbian musical mainstream. In the strength of Ana Đurić’s social engagement, the recognizable antagonism of old and new musical ideas shapes the original Serbian musical language of the 21st century – clear and independent of the inertia of current musical high-production.

This article examines the effectiveness of various policies and strategies aimed at promoting women’s participation in politics in Nigeria, implemented by advocacy groups, international organizations, political parties, and the Nigerian government. Despite the legal right of women to engage in politics and governance, cultural beliefs have hindered their active involvement in politics, leading to inadequate representation of women in politics. By liberal feminist theory, the study evaluates women’s responses to these initiatives, the challenges encountered in implementing them, and how political parties can enhance their effectiveness. The article suggests that legislative reform is necessary to enable women to achieve equal status to men in society, which will boost women’s political participation. Furthermore, it argues that Nigeria’s political parties have not done enough to encourage women’s participation in politics. Hence, political parties should establish a welcoming and inclusive environment accommodating women’s needs. To achieve this, political parties should organize party meetings at convenient and accessible times and places for women, eliminate obstacles that impede women’s par-ticipation in politics, develop gender-sensitive training programs to enhance women’s confidence and skills, and establish mentoring programs to support potential women candidates in navigating the political landscape.

The article discusses the contribution of the humanitarian activities of the most represented religious communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina to the development of the practice of social care and social support. The influence of the social teachings of the Catholic, Orthodox, and Islamic religious communities, whose ideological foundations are found in the Bible and the Qur'an, is considered. The article provides an overview of the historical conditioning of the practice of social activities of religious communities, with a special focus on the periods when the state's response to the difficulties of citizens' lives was weak and when space was left for religious communities to engage and practice in the areas of protection and support for socially sensitive groups of the population. Solidarity and voluntariness were the ideological foundations, and charity was the mechanism for practicing the social protection function of religious communities in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the past but also today. The article ends with the message that the area of social activism and charitable work of religious communities is an area of better interreligious and interethnic understanding and cooperation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Despite the passage of time, traditional music continues to hold importance as a source of creativity for new generations. It is an important component of the spiritual history of the human race. This research aims to ascertain the opinions of preschool teachers regarding the influence of traditional music on young children's social and emotional development. The sample consisted of 164 preschool teachers employed in preschool institutions in the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Croatia. The Student's Social and Emotional Competences Scale (SSEK) (Jeremić et al. 2015) was used as an instrument, adapted for this research. The findings showed that preschool teachers concur that teaching preschoolers traditional music affects their ability to develop their social and emotional skills. Preschool teachers implement traditional music in their educational work, and those who do so more often assess the influence of traditional music on the social and emotional development of children as more prominent. This research implies a need for future research on the frequency and modalities of implementing traditional music in preschools to benefit the development of children.

Social protection of persons with disability represents a topic that requires deep analysis of all significant aspects which include social approach, professional support, as well as the needs and capacities of an individual. This paper includes a theoretical framework for understanding social work models with persons with disability, as well as the underpinning critical social work paradigm. The authors used the above-mentioned theoretical framework to conduct the research and find the answer to the research question. Social workers that participated in this research were hand-picked due to their engagement in the health and social institutions that provide residential social care, and work with clients that are capable of actively participating and making decisions on their own during treatment. The method used for data collection in this research was the focus group method and in depth-interviews as a technic. The research findings presented in this paper indicate that traditional models, medical and social models of social work with persons with disability are being used in practice, with some elements of the third model – the embodiment model. The fourth contemporary model that enables the shift in the social work approach from client to person, using the embodiment model has not been recognized by the social workers that contributed to this research. It is also worth mentioning that the elements of the third and fourth social work models with persons with disability have been present in the social workers’ practice. This topic is very much current and requires attention from the science and practice of social work, facing new challenges and at the same time offering new potential directions for research in this social work field.

Historical examples show and confirm the continued disenfranchisement of people with disabilities in all areas. In this regard, it is not a particularly different situation in the field of media representation of this marginalized group. A low level of awareness and knowledge about disability contributes to people with disabilities directly or indirectly discriminating, marginalizing, and at the same time creating unfounded attitudes, stereotypes, and stigma about them. Starting from the above, the text analyzes the current media presentation of persons with disabilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The analysis included printed, more precisely the content of daily editions of Dnevni avaz newspaper in the period from April 1 to May 4, 2023, in which, in the analyzed period, a total of nine (9) topics were published. The contents of electronic media (Federal Television, Radio Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Radio-Television of Republika Srpska, Radio-Television of Republika Srpska, Radio Republika Srpska) were also analyzed, and on which, in the period from 08 to 22 May 2023, nine (9) topics that directly or indirectly concern people with disabilities were presented in news shows. The research aimed to point out the inadequate approach to reporting on disability more precisely to point out that people with disabilities and topics important to them are marginalized in media content in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that they do not reflect the real-life conditions of members of that population.
