In a designing of musical instrument substitutes, the specific dynamic modulus and logarithmic decrement are very important parameters. In the previous paper, we proposed musical instrument substitutes constructed by unidirectional composite material, EVA foam and Balsa ; however these experimental approaches require long periods of time and are considerably expensive in the practical designing phase. In this paper, we propose the new numerical model considered of heterogeneity in composite laminates. The conventional homogeneous modeling method cannot be applied to the prediction of the above two properties, because the specific dynamic modulus and logarithmic decrement depend on the reinforcement fiber and matrix properties, respectively. The modeling method of the heterogeneity for the composite materials is a key factor. In the proposed model, the composite materials are defined as a stacking structure with fiber plate and matrix plate. Using the proposed model, the above properties are obtained from the eigenvibration and transient analyses. After checking the validity of the proposed modeling method, two types of musical instrument substitutes are designed using numerical analyses.

The friction force acting on a yarn when twisted and for warded by the rotating disks of a false twisting unit is analyzed by the force balanced equations. The related mechanics is presented in basically the same formulation as reported earlier but the rotational motion of a yam around its axis is newly taken into account besides the traveling in the axial direction. The analysis can evaluate separately two components of the friction force;one twists the yarn and another pushes the yarn forward. Further the change in yam path on the disk surface as well as in yam tension is simulated by integrating a set of differential equations. Also is proposed the way to cast the equations into dimensionless ones by which numerical case studies can be appreciably reduced in the number of trials.

Melts of semi-aromatic liquid crystalline polymer (LCP) filled with carbon fiber (CF) and glass fiber (GE) were measured for dynamic viscoelasticity to quantitatively analyze their nonlinear viscoelastic properties. The LCP and its CF and GF filled polymer systems were examined for dynamic viscoelastic behaviors by Fourier expansion of shear stress wave. For LCP the tertiary terms G'3 and G''3 are considerably smaller than their primary terms G'1 and G''1, ;the viscoelastic property is almost linear. On the other hand, the two types of CF filled LCP systems showed that an increase in the oscillatory angle decreased G'1 and G''1 in sequence with increasing i.However, the G'3 and G''3 values are large enough not to be negligible, i.e.both polymer systems show similar nonlinear viscoelastic behaviors.A study on the GF filled LCP systems showed the same tendency as the CF filled systems;both G'1 and G''1 have apparently a plateau region.Furthermore, the values of G3 /G1, G'3/G'1 and G''3/G''1 are recognized as the indicator of the degrees of their nonlinearity, and the fiber filled LCP systems showed no significant difference in their dependency on co, although the GF filled systems showed a markedly higher nonlinearity of G''3/G''1 than the CF filled systems in a high co region.
