This study explores the speed of adjustment of the capital ratio, regulatory ratio, and tier-I ratio of commercial banks in China by employing the GMM framework from 2006 to 2020. The empirical analysis reveals that banks adjust their regulatory ratio and tier-I ratio faster than the capital ratio of Chinses commercial banks. The findings report that the pace of regulatory ratio, a tier-I ratio of well-capitalized, highly liquid, and high growth banks are faster than under-capitalized, low liquid and low growth commercial banks in China. In addition, the speed of adjustment of regulatory ratio, the tier-I ratio is faster than capital ratio during the GFC-2008 in China. These findings suggest that the regulators may consider the heterogeneity in the speed of capital adjustment across different bank characteristics to formulate new bank regulations; particularly, when assessing and adjusting the specific capital requirements through Pillar II of the Basel III agreement.

The study attempts to explore the effects of key factors influencing the customer acceptance of mobile banking adoption, particularly those that affect the consumer's attitudes towards and intention to use. This study builds a comprehensive theoretical model explaining M-banking adoption in Bangladesh. To assist in identifying these factors, an empirical study was conducted among general citizens of Bangladesh to identify the acceptance of M-banking. The study revealed that the critical factors which contribute to the adoption of M-banking in Bangladesh. A consumer survey on 250 mobile bank users of different mobile network operators in Bangladesh was undertaken where respondents completed a questionnaire about their perceptions of mobile banking's usefulness, perceived ease of usefulness, perceived risk, perceived cost, and perceived trust. This study offers an insight into mobile banking in Bangladesh, focusing on influencing factors and perceived trust was found to be the most significant factor affecting the adoption of M-banking in Bangladesh.

This article aims to analyse risk transmission among the financial markets of China and ASEAN-5 in the context of the 2015 Chinese stock market crash. For this purpose, the authors test if (1) the volatility resulting from the 2015 stock market crash has positively influenced risk transmission among ASEAN-5 and China markets and (2) increased risk perception has led to a negative reaction from investors, both in ASEAN-5 as in China markets. The results imply an enhancement of the asymmetric effect, suggesting that during the crash, market volatility responded more significantly to bad news than to good news. In the post-crash, volatility dropped expressively. During the crisis, risk transmission was significant to the point of jeopardising portfolio diversification in the ASEAN-5 markets. In the post-crash, markets tended to balance, mitigating the risk very significantly. The authors believe that there are opportunities for international investors to readjust their portfolios in these regional markets.

This paper is a speculative and exploratory essay on the emerging field of social accounting practices in Bangladesh. The study's main objective is to explore accountants' perceptions and attitudes towards Bangladesh's social accounting practices (SAP). Eighty accountants (chartered accountants and chartered management accountants working in the professional field level) of different firms were selected based on access priority from DSE. The study specifically used a mixed method. The study yielded a general overview of SAP in Bangladesh, where almost 77% of accountants followed SAP at their respective organizations differently. The study emphasized that SAP has a multifaceted conception where the company, managerial, and single firms act together. The practical implementation of this study relates to the professional level of education required for social accounting practice. This study concludes that SAP in Bangladesh is not up to the mark and needs to redesign a strategic plan.

Developed country governments have sought ways to offer a better service and some of them have already turned to a form of semi-autonomous service in order to achieve improvements in tax collection, better service to taxpayers and businesses as well as more flexible human resource management options. The South European countries have faced the most severe consequences from the recent economic crisis. Therefore, the need for reformation has been highlighted as imperative in these cases. These reformations were designed in order to emend previous pathologies, aiming to intensify efficiently the collection of public revenues and reduce operating costs. Nevertheless, the outcome of these restructures appears to offer a significant service to the citizens and facilitates conduction of business.

This paper expands upon the study of Bethani et. al (2019) regarding the association between firms’ cost of debt and their ownership structure. It is investigated whether corporate information opacity is associated with the level of cost of debt for family- owned firms. We examined a sample of companies listed to the Athens Stock Market at the period of 2017-2019. In line with the findings of Bethani et al. (2019) for the period 2009-2016 we found no significant association between corporate opacity and family ownership. Τhe cost of debt of the sample firms is negatively associated with their liquidity. In addition, we found that sample firms with certain stock price behavior and trading volume tend to finance their activities through the stock market than rather than using bank loans.

The impact of the Information and Technology (IT) sector on the countries’ innovation development has been recognized as crucial in prior and recent research studies. Moreover, firms’ innovativeness affects positively countries’ economies. Nevertheless, the global economic crisis of the last decade constituted a significant barrier to the development of country economies and had a negative effect on firms’ performance. Specifically, the negative consequences of the global crisis became harder for Southern Europe Countries. More specifically the Greek economy was suffered by an extended period of crisis with harder consequences than those of other European countries. The main purpose of this study was to examine the financial performance of Greek IT firms in the early years of crisis. Our findings have been relevant to those of previous studies which observed negative effects of the financial recession on firms profitability.

Corporate restructuring has gained considerable salience in strategic management in recent years. Effective corporate restructuring has permitted strategic managers of ailing organizations to regain their competitive advantage. Specifically, financial restructuring is one of the key pillars of corporate restructuring. Prior research on the nexus between financial restructuring and performance of commercial banking institutions in developed and developing nations has yielded inconclusive empirical evidence. Therefore, the focus of this study is to examine the nexus between financial restructuring and performance of commercial banks in Zimbabwe. This study employs the random effects model (REM) by making use of 2011-2016 panel data from 10 commercial banks. Empirical evidence establishes that financial restructuring has a positive influence on performance of commercial banks. The study, therefore, recommends that the management of commercial banks should embrace a conservative approach by increasing equity financing so as to avoid bank failures.

This paper aims at investigating the factors that affected the profitability of Greek systemic banks during the period 2009-2019. The authors initially review the findings of relevant international literature. Then, details of the methodology followed are provided and the variables that constitute the model are explained. Based on those, they investigate econometrically the factors that influenced banks' return on assets. The econometric analysis establishes that the ability of Greek systemic banks to generate profits through the use of their assets, during the period 2009-2019, was shaped under the influence of the debt crisis, which turned into a financial crisis, as well as specific financial and macroeconomic factors.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze pre-COVID-19 performance indicators of international financial cooperatives and credit unions. By assuming a wholeness approach to cooperative development, new potentialities are suggested without jeopardizing the initial concept of non-financial cooperative entities. Researched is their internationalization and export endeavors based on data collected by the European Association of Cooperative Banks and the World Council of Credit Unions. The author draws conclusions on interconnectedness among financial cooperatives and credit unions with traditional cooperatives. This study suggests that credit unions seem to be more widely represented than international financial cooperatives and that development potential exists in both of them individually and especially in their holistic interconnectedness. Finally, findings of this research also reveal that classic cooperatives could evolve into players that are more powerful by developing their financial and market potential through cooperation with international financial cooperatives and credit unions.
