Fault Analysis based on time-domain Symmetrical Components 基于时域对称分量的故障分析

Symmetrical components theory, presented by Fortescue in 1918, and its analysis of the time domain presented by Lyon in 1954, have been widely used for fault analysis and power system protection algorithms. In recent times, applications in time domain have been deeply studied given their potential for getting a quicker failure detection, there are two main techniques which apply signal processing methods in the time domain: Travel-wave and incremental quantities. The theoretical background of symmetrical components to fault analysis is well recognized. Currently, the fault protection algorithms using symmetrical components are based on frequency domain. This paper presents a theoretical analysis of the use of symmetrical components in time domain, particularly in asymmetrical faults. A Signal processing algorithm to obtain the instantaneous symmetrical quantities from phases quantities are presented. A study case is simulated to validate the time domain technique and fault analysis permits show the potential of the results to develop protection algorithms.

Distributed Washout Filter-Based Control Scheme for DC Microgrids Over Fading Channels 基于分布式冲刷滤波器的衰落信道直流微电网控制方案

This paper develops a distributed anti-disturbance control scheme that can achieve current sharing of distributed generations (DG) and voltage restoration of DC bus in mean square subject to multiplicative noises and time delays over fading networks. Since the cyber channels are exposed to inherent multiplicative noises and time delays, the information exchange among multiple and cooperative DGs may be disturbed in fading communication networks, where fading may either be due to noises, delays, and shadowing from obstacles affecting the wave propagation. As a results, fading makes every DG receives incomplete/imprecise information from its neighbors. To dispel the adverse influences of noises and time delays over fading networks, a washout filter-based distributed noise-resiliency control algorithm is developed for DC microgrids, in which only the current state variable is exchanged among DGs with the local decentralized voltage controller. By introducing stochastic theory and Lyapunov stability function, the criteria for the stability analysis and delays boundedness considering noise interferences is derived to ensure the stability operation of the whole closed-loop DC network. The obtained results show the effectiveness of the proposed strategy by a tested DC microgrid in OPAL-RT real-time simulator.

Forensic Inspections in the Time of Covid-19 Covid-19时期的法医检查

The global pandemic of COVID-19 has impacted the entire world in ways that were unimaginable months ago. It has changed how professionals work and interact with one another. To ensure the safety of experts and attorneys, also forensic inspection procedures must evolve, while still providing a reliable foundation for an expert testimony, relevant to the task at hand. Traditional field inspections require attendees to be physically present and generally in close proximity. Inspecting artifacts may also require that individual components be serially examined by multiple experts, which increases the risk of transmitting the disease. The authors propose a new approach to forensic inspections aimed at protecting consultants from the biological risk due to COVID-19. This approach takes into account the anticontagion safety protocols established in affected countries around the world.

Residential Electrical Fire in Shenzhen: Data Analysis and Possible Solution 深圳住宅电气火灾:数据分析及可能的解决方案

This paper presents the data analysis of electrical fire incidents in Shenzhen, China. A detailed examination of 3192 electrical fire incidents from 2014 to 2018 is presented. Time distribution and spatial distribution of electrical fires in residential buildings are reported. The analysis of this study indicates that the prevention of electrical fires in urban villages is of great significance. Moreover, installing arc fault detection devices is necessary to reduce electrical fires. The results presented in this paper can be beneficial to policymakers for electrical fire prevention.

Protection of Trees Against Lightning Strikes as a Measure to Prevent Fires and Loss of Human Life 保护树木免受雷击是防止火灾和人命损失的措施

Lighting strikes have been the catalyst of massive uncontrolled fires in areas of combustible vegetation. In some regions, lightning strikes may be a relatively unusual occurrence (e.g., California), but instead they seem to have become a major contributor to the propagation of wildfires, as a byproduct of climate change. Given such unusual weather, wildfires originating from lightning are an increasing threat. In this paper, the authors discuss the withstand capability of trees against lightning and introduce a proactive approach to prevent wildfires by the deployment of tree lighting protection systems (TLPS) to protect forested areas, where deemed necessary by the tree risk assessment.

Flexibility Evaluation Method of Power System Considering the Impact of Multi-Energy Coupling 考虑多能耦合影响的电力系统柔性评估方法

With the increasing penetration of renewable energy resources, the problems of energy waste and economic decline are exacerbated in the power system, especially on accommodating anti-peak-regulation of wind power. To make the dispatch of flexible resources more reasonable, a flexibility evaluation structure is established in this paper, which can guide operation strategy and effectively increase wind power consumption. Firstly, by analyzing the working principle and operating characteristics of various flexible resources, such as each unit, energy storage, energy coupling unit and adjustable load, the flexibility boundary restrictions are quantified. Secondly, the power-gas-heat integrated systems (PGHIS) model is established, and the system available flexibility indexes are proposed to quantitatively evaluate the system flexibility from multiple aspects of sources, storages and loads. Furthermore, the flexibility provided by integrating other energy systems and flexible resources at different dispatching times can be calculated, which further releases the dispatching pressure of the power system. Finally, the case study is verified on the modified IEEE39-NGS20-HS4 test system. The proposed method can effectively assess flexibility and optimize operation of power system with multi-energy coupling.

Financial Risk-Based Scheduling of Micro grids Accompanied by Surveying the Influence of the Demand Response Program 基于财务风险的微电网调度及需求响应方案影响调查

This paper presents an optimization approach based on mixed-integer programming (MIP) to maximize the profit of the Microgrid (MG) while minimizing the risk in profit (RIP) in the presence of demand response program (DRP). RIP is defined as the risk of gaining less profit from the desired profit values. The uncertainties associated with the RESs and loads are modeled using normal, Beta, and Weibull distribution functions. The simulation studies are performed in GAMS and MATLAB for 5 random days of a year. Although DRP increases the total profit of the MG, it can also increase the risk. The simulation results show that RIP is reduced when downside risk constraint (DRC) is considered along with DRP implementation. Considering DRC significantly reduces the percentage of the risk while slightly decreasinz the profit.

Impacts of Earthquakes on Electrical Grid Resilience 地震对电网弹性的影响

One of the most complex and devastating disaster scenarios that the U.S. Pacific Northwest region and the state of Oregon faces is a large magnitude Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake event. The region's electrical grid lacks in resilience against the destruction of a megathrust earthquake, a powerful tsunami, hundreds of aftershocks and increased volcanic activity, all of which are highly probable components of this hazard. This research seeks to catalyze further understanding and improvement of resilience. By systematizing power system related experiences of historical earthquakes, and collecting practical and innovative ideas from other regions on how to enhance network design, construction, and operation, important steps are being taken toward a more resilient, earthquake-resistant grid. This paper presents relevant findings in an effort to be an overview and a useful guideline for those who are also working towards greater electrical grid resilience.

Dynamic State Estimation for Radial Microgrid Protection 径向微电网保护的动态估计

Microgrids are localized electrical grids with control capability that are able to disconnect from the traditional grid to operate autonomously. They strengthen grid resilience, help mitigate grid disturbances, and support a flexible grid by enabling the integration of distributed energy resources. Given the likely presence of critical loads, the proper protection of microgrids is of vital importance; however, this is complicated in the case of inverter-interfaced microgrids where low fault currents preclude the use of conventional time-overcurrent protection. This paper introduces and investigates the application of dynamic state estimation, a generalization of differential protection, for the protection of radial portions of microgrids (or distribution networks); both phasor-based and dynamic approaches are investigated for protection. It is demonstrated through experiments on three case-study systems that dynamic state estimation is capable of correctly identifying model parameters for both normal and faulted operation.

Implementing Admittance Relaying for Microgrid Protection 微电网保护导纳继电的实现

The rapid increase of distributed energy resources has led to the widespread deployment of microgrids. These flexible and efficient local energy grids are able to operate in both grid-connected mode and islanded mode; they are interfaced to the main power system by a fast semiconductor switch and commonly make use of inverter-interfaced generation. This paper focuses on inverter interfaced microgrids, which present a challenge for protection as they do not provide the high short-circuit current necessary for conventional time-overcurrent protection. The application of admittance relaying for the protection of inverter-interfaced microgrids is investigated as a potential solution. The comparison of analytical and simulated results of performed four experiments prove the suitability of admittance relaying for microgrids protection.
