A significant part of the working class is women domestic workers, who work tirelessly to perform household tasks for their employers for low wages. In Bangladesh, women domestic workers are not getting the status and rights they deserve, there are regular reports of abuse of domestic workers. Though this group of workers engaged in the informal sector occupies a significant place in the labour market of Bangladesh they are not recognized. Since Bangladesh is a Muslim majority country, it is possible to establish the rights of domestic workers if people can be encouraged by promoting Islamic guidelines. Islam is a comprehensive way of life and it lays down effective principles regarding the rights of domestic workers. The purpose of this article is to explore the existing working conditions and rights of women domestic workers in Bangladesh and elucidate the Islamic guidelines in this context. It examines the issue using content analysis following the descriptive-analytical method. This research has revealed that women domestic workers are not receiving their due status as workers in Bangladesh. Establishing a robust legislative framework based on Islamic guidelines will ensure the desired outcome in this scenario.

Gambling is a controversial issue in many parts of the world and is one of the abominations declared by Islam. Despite being prohibited in Islam, gambling exists in various forms in Muslim-dominated Bangladesh and the gambling sector has been expanded in many ways. Gambling brings severe harm to a person in religious and worldly life. This paper sketches the holistic view of Islam on gambling through descriptive method and states its harmful effects in the context of Bangladesh. The article provides a good number of recommendations for the prevention of gambling through an analytical approach. This write up has demonstrated that gambling causes harm at individual, social and state level and through religious and social awareness as well as application of proper laws, this harm can be reduced to the ultimate level.

Wastage is not only confined to the life of the individual but also takes place in society, state and overall global economic life. As the level of wastage has increased in modern times more than any other period, so has the multifaceted field of wastage. This article has critically elucidated the harmful effects of wastage in the light of conventional and Islamic law. In accomplishing it’s purpose, the article has explored descriptive and comparative method of research. The article shows that by following the guidelines of Islamic law as well as respecting conventional law, it is possible to prevent wastage completely.

Due to its unique position in Islamic epistemology, various viewpoints and opinions have naturally arisen in the Muslim society regarding the interpretation and analysis of hadith. According to Islamic belief, hadith as a whole, holds the status of a kind of wahi or divine revelation. How to interpret revelation is a very old question in Abrahamic religions. There is a long discussion and debate about this among different sections of the Muslim society. Especially between the traditionalist hadith scholars and the rationalist community, the disagreement on this issue is quite strong and long. After the fourth century of the Hijri, this disagreement dwindled a little, but at the end of the nineteenth century, under the influence of European colonization, this debate started in a new form by the hands of modernist Muslim thinkers. It is at this stage that the discussion of determining the acceptability of hadith based on meaning becomes important. In this essay, the views and practices of prominent people of both communities are presented in a descriptive manner and their thoughts are evaluated in an analytical manner. This write up has portrayed that judging the meaning of hadith is extremely difficult. For this reason, the article argues that opportunity exists for adherents of both schools of thought to reconsider their stance in the light of history and reality.

Islam attaches great importance to property rights and at the same time takes active responsibility for the overall welfare of the state's citizens. In the continuation of this, the issue of acquisition of land by state for public interest has also received great attention in Islamic law. Acquisition of land by state is required to undertake various developmental projects. Employing descriptive and analytical methods this article has demonstrated that acquisition of land for public interest is valid subject to several conditions in Islam. In this case, the interests of both the people and the owners should be taken into consideration. No one can be oppressed. Although Islamic law has similarities with conventional domestic law, in many cases the interests of land owners are neglected. This article has endeavored to substantiate that in case of acquisition of land for public interest Islamic Law has provided more importance than Conventional Law to protect the interest of both parties.

Children are the future of tomorrow. Future development and progress depends on the proper care of the child. A country's children can play a key role in transforming a country from a developing country to a middle-income country. Child abuse in various forms has become a daily occurrence in Bangladesh in recent times. Although there are provisions in the legal framework of Bangladesh to protect the overall rights of children and to prevent all forms of abuse and torture, abuse against children is increasing gradually. Not surprisingly enough, the importance of children and their rights are well defined in Islamic law. Employing descriptive and observational analysis methods this article has endeavored to explicate the laws of Bangladesh and Islamic injunctions to prevent child abuse. The author submits that the combination of religious and moral education with the proper implementation of existing laws is absolutely necessary to prevent child abuse.

The Shufʻa (preemption) or 'Side-Land Pre-Purchase Right Law' is a land by-law of Islamic Shari'ah law. The role of Shuf’a Law in land management is immense. Because Shufʻa law preserves the rights of all classes of partners and neighbors of the respective land. In the year 622 AD, the first practical application of this law took place in the state of Madinah Munawarah established by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). For around 1400 years, this law played an incredibly important role as an acclaimed land law of Muslim empires. Note that the amount of per capita land is gradually decreasing as the current global population increases. In such a situation, the land department along with the land owners are going through a transitional period in the purchase and sale of these poorly fragmented lands. In this situation, the land management law including the land pre-purchase right law need to be made more rich, practical and up-to-date. This article presents an authentic and evidence-based discussion of various aspects of Shufʻa Law. In addition, an attempt has been made to make a comparative analysis between the Shufʻa Law and the existing law of the country. The article has been prepared in a descriptive, analytical and comparative manner. Analyzing the results of Shuf'a law and relevant issues, presented in this article, it can be seen that the elements of this law can play an important role in the land management including the upgradation of Shufʻa Law.

The protection and preservation of Dīn is the fundamental and ultimate objective of the Islāmic Sharī'ah. Two types of provision, i.e., practicable and exclusionary, have been in place to protect Dīn. Bidʻah belongs to the second. To ensure the protection of Dīn the Prophet PBUH has strictly prohibited engaging in Bidʻah. Sadd al-dharaiʻ is recognized as the complementary evidence of the Sharī'ah in all the prominent schools of Islāmic law. The term Sadd al-dharaiʻ means blocking all means of action, which are permissible, but it can lead to any forbidden action. The means of Bidʻah also push Dīn towards serious harm and destruction. Therefore, it is imperative to stop all the means that lead to Bidʻah. Considering Sadd al-dharaiʻ the means of Bidʻah also need to be excluded. In order to ensure the protection of Dīn, the salaf-e-sālihīn, Usulists and jurists have applied it. By adopting analytical and descriptive methods, the discussion revolves around three main issues. In the context of global climate change, there is no alternative to environmental development and its preservation for the protection of human lives and their interests. Islam put the highest importance on the environmental development, its conservation, and prevention of environmental disaster. In this article, two important issues have been presented: firstly, an analysis of the importance and relation of sustainable development with the environmental development and its conservation; secondly, a comparative investigation of ‘the dictations of Islam in developing and conserving the environment with ‘the existing laws of Bangladesh’. The primary objective of this article is to present before the readers the policies of Islam and the similarities of existing laws and Islamic laws with respect to the environmental development and its conservation, so that environment related policies of Islam become clear to all and an initiative can be adopted to enact an effective law by incorporating those policies into the existing laws. The article has been prepared in a descriptive and analytical manner. The article makes it clear that by realizing the limitations of our environmental development there are enough scopes to find a way out of the limitations. Thus, if the problems can be identified and be solved effectively, a worthy Bangladesh with the best and sustainable environment can be made possible.

Islam put the highest importance on the environmental development, its conservation, and prevention of environmental disaster. In this article, two important issues have been presented: firstly, an analysis of the importance and relation of sustainable development with the environmental development and its conservation; secondly, a comparative investigation of ‘the dictations of Islam in developing and conserving the environment with ‘the existing laws of Bangladesh’. The primary objective of this article is to present before the readers the policies of Islam and the similarities of existing laws and Islamic laws with respect to the environmental development and its conservation, so that environment related policies of Islam become clear to all and an initiative can be adopted to enact an effective law by incorporating those policies into the existing laws. The article has been prepared in a descriptive and analytical manner. The article makes it clear that by realizing the limitations of our environmental development there are enough scopes to find a way out of the limitations. Human being is the best creature of Almighty Allah. It was felt that an accurate celestial book was needed to win the satisfaction of Allah while maintaining his superiority. It is a great mercy of Almighty Allah that He revealed the Quran as a book to solve all problems. The first instruction of this book is ‘Read’. But He did not make it clear about the method of reading. Based on the instruction of Allah, the Holy Prophet PBUH prepared a group of world-renowned enlightened people by focusing the light of education to the human being through various methods. Subsequently, to make that education easily available to the people, according to the demand of time, various educational methods were developed in different times. One of these methods is formal education and the other is open and distance learning with a combination of formal and non-formal education. Bangladesh Open University is offering education through this method of education in the country. The main point of this article is to discuss this method in the light of the Holy Quran and the Hadith. However, before onsetting the main discussion, the purpose of establishing Bangladesh Open University, its education system, and open and distance learning methods, its aims and objectives and characteristics have briefly been discussed.
