Unusual records of marine organisms in the Neretva River (Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina) 内雷特瓦河(克罗地亚和波斯尼亚和黑塞哥维那)海洋生物的不寻常记录

This paper presents a review of the unusual occurrences of various marine species found upstream in the Neretva River and its wider delta zone in the last two decades. The occurrences of at least eight different marine species werereported by local fishermen, representing very rare records of these species in the upstream areas of rivers. Although some of these species generally inhabit both saltwater and brackish waters, their occurrences high upstream are probably the consequence of changes in hydrological conditions in Neretva River. Namely, more intense saltwater intrusion into the river observed in the last two decades provides suitable conditions for mass penetration of euryhaline organisms high into the Neretva River. In this biodiversity rich area which hosts a significant number of endemic species, such phenomena can threaten the local freshwater communities.

Total length-weight relationships (LWRs) from 3583 individuals of Atherina boyeri (Risso, 1810) caught in Lake Trichonis (Western Greece), using a commercial encircled net and experimental Nordic type benthic and pelagic multi-mesh gillnets, were estimated during 2019-2020. The variation of the parameter b for all seasons combined was significantly allometric, for both encircled towed and gillnets, with a quite robust fit (R^2 equals 0.925 and 0.947, respectively) and values equal to 2.254 and 2.089, respectively. The specimens were significantly lighter in summer than in the other seasons. The slopes of the LWRs significantly differ between seasons and exhibited relatively low values when compared to other ecosystems worldwide and in the same ecosystem in previous periods of time. Τhe estimated values of the Le Cren index were significantly higher than the Allometric and the Fulton ones.

The histological structure and histochemical characteristics of the digestive tract of five specimens of salema porgy (Sarpa salpa, L.) were analysed using haematoxylin-eosin, Alcian blue/PAS and orcein-Giemsa staining techniques. The digestive system of salema porgy consists of esophagus, stomach and intestines with associated organs such as liver, pancreas and gallbladder. The wall of esophagus, stomach, intestines and gallbladder has four distinctive layers: the mucosa, the submucosa, the muscular and outer layer, serosa or adventitia. The mucosa consists of two different layers: epithelium and lamina propria. Mucosa of the upper part of the digestive system is layered by single squamous epithelium, while those of lower part of the digestive system is layered by single columnar epithelium. The submucosa is a layer made of connective tissue and blood vessels. In most parts of the digestive system the muscular layer consists of two parts: circular and longitudinal. The exception is the muscular layer of the stomach fundus which has three layers: inner, medium and outer. The outermost layer in the esophagus is adventitia made of connective tissue, blood vessels and nerves. In the stomach, intestines and the gallbladder this layer is replaced by serosa. Histochemical analysis has shown that mucosal cells in all parts of the digestive tube contain acid mucopolysaccharides (MPS). The liver consists of hepatocytes separated by sinusoidal capillaries. The pancreatic tissue is scattered along the liver parenchyma and along the wall of pyloric caeca. The present study is the first record on digestive system histology of salema porgy showing that it is congruent to its feeding habits.

Body morphometric and otolith shape analyses of anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus (Linnaeus, 1758)) in the Algerian basin 阿尔及利亚盆地凤尾鱼(Engraulis encrasicolus (Linnaeus, 1758))的身体形态和耳石形状分析

Body morphometric characteristics and otolith shape described by elliptic Fourier descriptors analyses were carried out on European anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus) samples collected from six locations in Algerian waters during the acoustic survey ALPEL2018 (south-western Mediterranean Sea, GFCM-GSA04).The discriminant analysis was applied over twelve morphometric body distances and 31 normalized elliptic Fourier descriptors. It highlightedsignificant difference between areas but with high overlapping. No significant difference was detected between males and females, or right and left otoliths. Hierarchical clustering analysis conducted on the mean form of body and otolith shape showed a clear geographical cline. The results indicate that the geographical trend is present with a high level of overlapping between the near areas, suggesting that European anchovies in Algerian waters are not completely isolated.

Reproductive traits of the European hake, Merluccius merluccius (L. 1758), in the Adriatic Sea 亚得里亚海欧洲鳕鱼Merluccius Merluccius(L.1758)的繁殖特性

Within this paper, reproduction traits of the Adriatic population European hake, Merluccius merluccius (Linnaeus, 1758), were investigated. Specimens of the target species were monthly collected (N=1173) during 2019 along the eastern Adriatic Sea with commercial bottom trawlers. Overall, European hake total body length varied between 15.5 and 49.5 cm (mean±SD=27.5±5.0 cm) and domination of females was noted in larger length classes (TL>31.0 cm). The sexual ratio of all specimens was m/f=0.64; male prevalence was established over the year, except during the spawning peaks (December, June) when the sex ratio was in favour of the females. According to European hake’s maturity stages, gonad weights, gonadosomatic indexes and histological analysis of the gonad tissues, this species in Adriatic spawn twice in one year; the spawning period was from December to February, while second smaller signs of spawning were observed at the beginning of the summer, in June. 50% of the European hake male and female specimens sexually matured at 20.7 cm and 22.4 cm of total length, respectively.

Biometry of the sagittal otoliths for three demersal fish species from the Eastern Adriatic Sea (Montenegro) 亚得里亚海东部(黑山)三种底层鱼类矢状耳石的生物测定

The otolith morphology, biometry and otolith size and fish length relationship of three demersal fish species: red mullet Mullus barbatus, common pandora Pagellus erythrinus and hake Merluccius merluccius were examined. Based on otoliths relative sizes P. erythrinus and M. merluccius have Large otoliths, while M. barbatus has Small sagittal otoliths. The relationships between otolith variables and fish somatic growth were described by a linear function. All relationships were statistically highly significant (p<0.001). Otolith length (OL) was found to be thevariable most strongly related to fish size, with 61.2 – 95.3 % of the variability, while otolith weight had the lowest coefficient of determination (r2). No differences were found neither between left and right otoliths, nor between male and female otoliths in these relationships. For all species studied the relationships of otolith length, height and weight against total fish length were all found to have positive allometry, indicating that the accretion of otoliths is relatively faster than increase in fish body size. The shape indices of form factor (FF), roundness (RD), aspect ratio (AR), circularity (C), rectangularity (R) and ellipticity (E) were calculated and the relationships between otolith length (OL) and shape indices were determined.

Otolith length (OL) was found to be the\u0000variable most strongly related to fish size, with 61.2 – 95.3 % of the variability, while otolith weight had the lowest coefficient of determination (r2). No differences were found neither between left and right otoliths, nor between male and female otoliths in these relationships. For all species studied the relationships of otolith length, height and weight against total fish length were all found to have positive allometry, indicating that the accretion of otoliths is relatively faster than increase in fish body size. A recent study based on molecular biological data revealed thatGobius canestrinii (Ninni, 1883), a gobioid fish endemic to the Adriatic basin, has to be split in three lineages. The original description was based on populations from two distant localities in Italy and in Croatia respectively, the first representing one of these lineages, the second most likely belonging to another lineage. To fix the name of the species, we hereby designated a lectotype for Canestrini’s Goby.

We present the first record of the endemic Mediterranean anthozoan Spinimuricea klavereni (Carpine & Grasshoff 1975) (Cnidaria, Anthozoa, Plexauridae) for theAdriatic Sea (Boka Kotorska bay, Montenegro). A density of 0.72 colonies m-2 could be measured in the area, which was com-pared with thescant available data in the literature. Having in mind that this species is very rare and endemic for the Mediterranean, it is important to increase our knowledge on its distribution and biology in order to better assess its ecological role, the pending threats and the need for specific conservation measures.

Among the turtle and whale barnacles (Coronuloidea: Chelonibiidae, Coronulidae, †Emersoni-idae and Platylepadidae), the members of the chelonibiid species Chelonibia testudinaria (Linnaeus, 1758) are known as epizoic barnacles that can attach to a rather wide spectrum of substrates (pri-marily sea turtles, crabs and sirenians). At present, three living morphs of C. testudinaria have been recognised; of these,the less host-specific is the patula morph, which also displays a remarkably simple, unspecialised shell architecture. Here we report on several chelonibiid shells, referred to the patula morph of C. testudinaria, encrusting a cetacean scapula collected from the floor of the Adriatic Sea facing Salento (Apulia Region, southeastern Italy) and tentatively referred to Tursiopstruncatus (Montagu, 1821). This is one of the few records worldwide of acoronuloid barnacle from an inanimate substrate, as well as the second as an encruster on mammalian bone. Such an unusual occurrence is then briefly discussed in the broader framework of the coronuloid commensalism and substrate habits.

Three specimens of decapod shrimp Eualus drachi Noël, 1978, were found in the red coral rem-nant collected for commercial purposes near the island Sveti Andrija, Croatia. It is the first record of this species inthe Adriatic Sea. The decapod biodiversity of deeper coralligenous habitats, such as the red coral colonies, is poorly investigated in contrast to coastal areas and soft bottoms of traditional trawling grounds. This paper highlights the usefulness of examining the remnants of a commercial coral extraction originatingfrom previously less investigated marine habitats in order to improve the knowledge on the biodiversity of such habitats.
