Parental career-related support plays a crucial role in facilitating adolescents' career development, yet relatively little is known about its mediating role in Korean adolescents' career development. Using a sample of 581 Korean high school students, this study examined the role of parental career-related support in the link between socioeconomic status (SES) and adolescents' career adaptability. Results indicated that adolescents with high SES were more likely to have a high level of parental career-related support and a high level of career adaptability resources, and parental career-related support was significantly associated with career adaptability resources. Although curiosity and confidence were only significantly related to SES, parental career-related support was more likely to affect concern than other resources of career adaptability. The mediation models also supported the claim that adolescents from high SES families are more likely to perceive a higher degree of parental career-related support and the more they perceive such supports, the greater the level of career adaptability. These results suggest the need for parents and schools to facilitate career-related support for adolescents.

Teacher retention in the STEM fields is of national interest. Several factors, such as job satisfaction, classroom control, and school influence have been linked to teachers leaving the profession. By statistically analyzing various questions from the Schools and Staffing Survey Teacher Questionnaire, this study evaluated the current state of how early career mathematics, science, and career and technical education (CTE) teachers perceive their classroom control and influence over school policy. The results show that CTE teachers perceive they have significantly more influence over school policy than mathematics teachers. CTE teachers also reported having significantly more classroom control than both mathematics and science teachers. By understanding the current state of how CTE perceive school influence and classroom control compared to their mathematics and science teacher counterparts, further research can be conducted to address job satisfaction and teacher retention in the CTE fields.

Presently, there is no widespread agreement on foundational theories for Career and Technical Education (CTE) as a discipline, nor is there much discussion and debate in the literature on what a theory foundation might look like. The case has been made that theory helps scholars and practitioners look at data from different angles, offer different interpretations of research findings, define and understand problems, propose and test solutions, set a research agenda for the discipline, and help solve problems. This paper investigates published CTE research to identify those theories most commonly employed as a theoretical framework and described their major components and concepts. The author then proposes a potential core theory base for CTE derived from the findings and discusses how this core is grounded in the intersection of the different theories.

Career and technical education (CTE) has become a key focus of stakeholders across the political spectrum. It has been shown to be an effective means of promoting many desired outcomes, including increased chances of high school graduation, improved opportunities of enrolling in advanced math and science courses, and increased earnings after high school. An overlooked area is the direct connection between high school CTE coursetaking in a given cluster and confirmation of a postsecondary education (PSE) credential in that same CTE cluster. This study explores that connection. Through our analyses, we found significant relationships between specific CTE clusters in high school and eventually receiving a PSE credential in that same cluster. This clustered approach coupled with the observed differences in clustered connections shows the importance of evaluating CTE not solely as a single unit, but as a group of specific clusters as well.
