ABSTRACT We examined how β-casein CSN2 genotypes (A1A1, A1A2, A2A2) affected milk coagulation properties, the fatty acid composition, and sensory traits of milk products (soft cheese, sour cream, and butter). We collected 300 L of milk from 96 cows in the same herd and sorted it into 100-L milk pools according to the β-casein genotype. Rennet coagulation time and curd-firming rate were fastest in A2A2 milk and slowest in A1A1 milk. Accordingly, curd firmness was highest in A2A2 milk and lowest in A1A1 milk. A1A1 milk products had higher levels of monounsaturated fatty acids and lower levels of saturated fatty acids. Polyunsaturated fatty acids were mainly found in A2A2 milk products and were lowest in A1A2 products. Although CSN2 genotypes influenced milk coagulation traits and fatty acid content of milk products, they did not influence the latter's sensory traits. Therefore, selectively breeding genotypes with preferred qualities may improve dairy products.

Effects of lipotropic products on egg quality, blood biochemistry, and immune responses in commercial laying hens fed with medium and high metabolizable energy level diets 饲粮中、高代谢能水平对商品蛋鸡蛋品质、血液生化和免疫反应的影响

ABSTRACT This study investigated the effects of L-carnitine, choline chloride, and lecithin in the diet of laying hens fed with medium and high energy level diets on egg quality, blood biochemical parameters, and immune responses. The first factor was two levels of energy (medium = 2900 and high = 3000 kcal/kg) and the second factor was the use of three lipoprotein supplements (L-carnitine 100 mg/kg, choline chloride 1000 mg/kg, and 2% alternative lecithin dietary fat). Results showed that experimental diets led to significant differences (P < 0.05) in production, concentrated white height, yolk height, yolk diameter, yolk index, yolk content, and weight index to the shell. The results also showed that the use of high energy levels vs medium energy levels improved the egg quality as well as other aforementioned factors. In conclusion, the use of high energy levels (3000kcal/kg) as well as L-carnitine (100mg/kg) as a dietary supplement had the greatest effects on the studied factors.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate silage juice from green bio refineries in liquid diets to pigs and its’ effect on growth, cleanliness and health. Ninety-six (L × Y) × H organically raised pigs were fed either a control diet (C-diet) or a silage feed juice diet (SFJ-diet). The C-diet consisted of a commercial feed mixed with water prior to feeding. The SFJ-diet consisted of a lower ration of commercial feed mixed with silage feed juice (SFJ) instead of water, theoretically replacing 10% of the dietary crude protein content. All pigs consumed the juice and grew similarly, on average 0.48 kg/day. SFJ pigs were significantly dirtier on their back and head than C pigs (P < 0.001 for all), but cleanliness in the rectum area and in the pen did not differ. Silage juice had only minor effects on hygienic measures and could be a potential local feed ingredient to pigs.

ABSTRACT This review has described factors affecting a particular situation in Poland, current opportunities and challenges in the implementation and recognition of Polish red cattle (PRC) as beef production. This knowledge may be are an essential tool as part of strategic planning in this context. PRC are one of the few red cattle breeds indigenous in Europe. Several desirable features characterize them: high disease resistance, good health and fertility, longevity, the nutritional value of milk and meat and disadvantageous - very low milk productivity. Currently, by implementing the new - meat direction of PRC, breeders who keep this breed for dairy purposes do not experience problems with selling cattle suckers for further breeding for meat purposes, which is financially reasonable.

Effects of protease supplementation on growth performance, organ development, gut morphology, and microbial profile of broiler chicken 添加蛋白酶对肉鸡生长性能、器官发育、肠道形态和微生物谱的影响

ABSTRACT The current study evaluated the effect of protease enzyme supplemented to a standard diet for 6 weeks on growth performance, organ development, gut morphology, and microbial profile of male broiler chicken. On day 42, 2 birds per pen were dissected to evaluate carcass composition, organ weights, gut morphology, and cecal microbial profile. Final body weight and average daily gain for the total grow-out period tended to increase by protease supplementation, although average daily feed intake, feed conversion ratio, and internal organs’ weight were not affected. The protease enzyme addition improved gut morphological traits in the duodenum, Jejunum and ileum. Protease addition changed the abundance of specific bacteria including Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Porphyromonadaceae, Lachnospiraceae, Bacteroidaceae, and Ruminocococcaceae. In conclusion, 50 g/ton protease supplementation tended to improve growth performance, had significant effects on gut morphology and demonstrate the potential to increase the abundance of beneficial bacteria such as Firmicutes.

ABSTRACT The Meat Factory Cell (MFC) concept restructures the slaughter line into cell stations and merges elements of the slaughter- and primal cutting processes. With the MFC approach, most of the primals are removed prior to evisceration. This study describes the effect of the MFC concept on carcass hygiene, carcass yield, meat quality traits, and sensory characteristics of selected MFC products from trials with the very first pig carcasses processed with the MFC approach. Results show that hygiene of MFC carcasses rivals conventionally slaughtered carcasses. For quality variables and sensory characteristics of selected MFC products, the study shows that the MFC approach will result in products that equal, and in some cases surpass, conventional products, provided that proper processing, packaging and chilling is applied.

ABSTRACT Six non-linear regression models (3P and 4P Gompertz, 3P, 4P and 5P Logistic and Neural network) were computed to construct the growth curves of 50 South African non-descript indigenous goats (males = 20 and female = 30) from birth to twelve months of age, raised at the University of Limpopo Experimental Farm, South Africa. Candidate non-linear models were compared for the best predictive values based on the adjusted coefficient of determination (AdjR 2), root mean square error (RMSE), Akaike’s information criterion (AIC) and Bayesian information criterion (BIC). The results suggest that South African non-descript indigenous goats’ growth curve was best reconstructed in males using Logistic 4P, while Logistic 5P for the females. The growth parameters obtained from the current study might be used to define the feeding programmes to meet nutritional needs of South African non-descript indigenous goats from birth to one year of age.

ABSTRACT The study evaluated the effect of heat-treating apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) pomace with different oven temperatures on chemical composition and in vitro ruminal fermentation with or without polyethylene glycol (PEG). Eight replicate samples of air-dried fresh apple pomace (CON) were each oven-dried for 30 min at 60°C (T60), 80°C (T80), 100°C (T100), 120°C (T120), and 130°C (T130). Heat treatment increased (P < 0.05) dry matter, organic matter, neutral detergent fibre and acid detergent fibre of the pomace. The untreated pomace (CON) had the highest crude protein content (94.0 g/kg DM) while the lowest was from T180 (49.84 g/kg DM). The inoculation with PEG had higher cumulative gas production than the one without PEG. Similarly, PEG inoculation increased (P < 0.05) the rate of gas production from fraction b (c), effective gas production, and partitioning factors. It was concluded that heat treatment does not improve the nutritive value of apple pomace.

Genetic parameters and trends of growth traits in community-based breeding programs of Abera sheep in Ethiopia 埃塞俄比亚阿贝拉羊社区育种计划中生长性状的遗传参数和趋势

ABSTRACT The objectives of the current study were to estimate the genetic parameters and genetic trends for growth traits, and to assess inbreeding levels of Abera sheep under community-based breeding programs (CBBPs) in Ethiopia. General linear model consisting of the fixed effects of sex, breeder cooperative, season and birth type was used to analyze growth traits. Variance components and genetic parameters were estimated within each breeder cooperative following univariate animal model based on the restricted maximum likelihood method. All fixed effects influenced (P < 0.05) the growth traits. Multivariate analysis was also employed to compute correlation estimates among growth traits. Based on the best fitted models, the direct heritability for weaning weight (WWT) and six-month weight (SMWT) in the six breeder cooperatives were in the ranges of 0.12 ± 0.12–0.38 ± 0.17 and 0.20 ± 0.10–0.49 ± 0.01, respectively. Range of positive genetic progress in WWT (0.15–0.44 kg) and SMWT (0.21–0.57 kg) was achieved in Abera sheep breeder cooperatives during selection years.

Guanidinoacetic acid as a feed supplement offered to weaned piglets 胍基乙酸作为断奶仔猪饲料添加剂的研究

ABSTRACT Guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) is a natural precursor for creatine, which is involved in physiological energy generation. Six hundred and ninety-nine weaned pigs (6-30 kg) were fed a basal diet (Diet 1-4, corresponding to four phases) without (CTRL) and with 0.12% GAA supplementation. Pigs in the CTRL group displayed higher (P < 0.05) average daily gain and lower feed conversion ratio, and body weight, during the periods of Diet 1 and 2, compared with GAA pigs. In the period of Diet 3 CTRL pigs tended (P < 0.10) to be heavier than GAA pigs, whereas in the period of Diet 4 GAA pigs tended (P < 0.10) to grow faster than CTRL pigs. Over the entire experimental period CTRL compared with GAA pigs displayed improved feed efficiency (P < 0.05) and tended (P < 0.10) to grow faster. In conclusion, GAA did show minor potential to increase average daily gain in the last part of the weaning phase.
