Road observation system for Robotic Communication Terminals supporting pedestrians 辅助行人的机器人通信终端道路观测系统

This paper describes the Robotic Communication Terminals (RCT), a mobility support system developed to assist elderly and disabled people who suffer from impaired mobility. The RCT system consists of three types of terminals and one server: an "environment-embedded terminal". a "user-carried mobile terminal", a "user-carrying mobile terminal", and a GIS server. The RCT is an integrated system that can cope with various problems of mobility, and provide suitable support to a wide variety of users according to their physical status, such as types, levels, combinations and histories of impairment to their eyes, ears, and legs. This paper provides an in-depth description of the "environment-embedded terminal". In this system a camera is located a few meters above ground on the sides of roads lit residential areas, railway stations, etc. Moving objects and obstacles are constantly monitored, and the data compiled are presented to users. We implemented the recognition part of this system using plug-in modules of the Windows DLL format, thus making it easy to change the algorithm depending on the time of day and the weather conditions. Moreover, it is shown by experiments in the real-world that this system can detect speeding vehicles and send the proper warning messages to alert users to the impending danger.

Three improvements on KNN-NPR for traffic flow forecasting 基于KNN-NPR的交通流预测的三种改进

Research has shown nonparametric regression to hold high potential to accurately forecast short-term traffic flows. However, many fundamental questions remain regarding the ability of KNN-NPR(K nearest neighbor nonparametric regression) to meet real-time system requirements and adequate accuracy requirements. So this paper puts forward three improvements which are: effective traffic state vector selection method based on self-association analysis and association analysis; improved variable K search method based on "dense degree"; and advanced data structures based on a dynamic cluster method and hash-function transformation. A field test fully proves that with three improvements, KNN-NPR can adequately meet real-time system requirements and accuracy requirements.

Policy-based stochastic dynamic traffic assignment models and algorithms 基于策略的随机动态交通分配模型与算法

Stochasticity is prevalent in transportation networks in general, and traffic networks in particular. We develop a policy-based stochastic dynamic traffic assignment (DTA) model and related solution algorithms. The DTA model works in a stochastic time-dependent network where link travel times are time-dependent random variables, Routing policies rather than paths are used as users' routing choices. A routing policy is a decision rule which specifies what node to take next out of current node based on current time and realized link travel times. We first give a conceptual framework for the DTA model. We then develop generic models for the routing policy generation problem, users' policy choice problem and dynamic network loading problem, which are the three major components of the overall DTA model. We then present a heuristic algorithm to solve the proposed policy-based DTA model. Using an example, we show that policy-based DTA models have solutions different, in expected travel times than the path-based models which are commonly used in the literature.

Link travel time estimation using single GPS equipped probe vehicle 用单GPS探测车估计链路行程时间

Probe vehicles can be used as an efficient method to collect real-time travel time information. Existing research on travel time estimation directly records the travel time of a probe vehicle and calculates the mean of travel times from a number of probe vehicles. This paper describes a new approach to estimate travel time by using a single probe vehicle based on the analysis of the speed-time profile. According to the features extracted from the speed profile, the driving pattern of a probe vehicle is classified by using fuzzy sets. Differing from the traditional concept in the research of driving behaviour, the driving pattern in this study is only associated with the difference between the travel time of the probe vehicle and mean travel time. A new variable, the maximum continuous acceleration (MCA), is introduced to reflect acceleration characteristics of the driver by combining the continuous acceleration and speed at the acceleration starting point. The MCA and average speed of a probe vehicle are taken as the input variables of fuzzy sets. The membership function values are determined by historical traffic data of the tested road segment. The travel time is calculated by corresponding equations for different driving patterns. A comparison of the estimated travel time and actual mean travel time illustrates the value of the approach.

The dynamic assignment model assumes flow moves towards cheaper routes at each time at a rate proportional to the product of the flow along the more expensive route and the cost difference. Therefore, it is important for the cost function to be monotone so that convergence to equilibrium will occur. Conditions on the bottleneck output function are given for the bottleneck delay function to be monotone, which will imply monotonicity of the route cost function in the single bottleneck per route case. It is shown that for reasonable bottleneck output functions, we have monotonicity of the product of link cost with a decaying exponential. This decay-monotonicity transfers to the route cost in certain given circumstances. This will in turn imply convergence of the dynamical system by applying Lyapunov's theorem using the appropriate Lyapunov function. It is then important to note that monotonicity of the route cost function implies decay-monotonicity of the route cost function and hence the convergence result is valid for the single bottleneck per route case with monotone link cost functions.

Vehicle detection and localization in infra-red images 红外图像中的车辆检测与定位

This paper presents an algorithm for detecting vehicles in FIX images. Initially the attention is focused on portions of the image that contains hot objects only. These areas are then selected and refined using aspect ratio and size constraints about vehicles; even situations with overlapping vehicles are considered. The result Is further investigated exploiting specific vehicle thermal characteristics. A simple tracking phase is performed to improve the detection results. Thanks to the knowledge of camera intrinsic parameters the distance of vehicles is computed using an assumption about vehicles width. The system proved to be effective in different scenarios, but further tests are required to validate it in a wider range of weather conditions. It is able detect vehicles in front of the vision system in the range 25 m-100 m at a 12 Hz processing rate.

Deployment of a CVO pilot project for specialized trucks in Taiwan 在台湾部署专门卡车的CVO试点项目

High accident rate, overloading, speeding, illegal dumping, driving on restricted routes, and over-time driving are the critical issues in managing specialized trucks in Taiwan. The specialized trucks are used for hauling aggregate materials mainly for construction. The current management system is unable to perform real-time management, such as illegal driver behavior monitoring, dynamic dispatching and emergency support. In order to solve these problems, this project attempts to improve the safety of the aggregate material transportation and its operation performance by means of real-time vehicle trucking, road information monitoring, and relevant application developments. Moreover, tests of advanced equipments are conducted to analyze the software and hardware requirements and system integration interface of intelligent transportation management systems, as well as the feasibility of incorporating an intelligent transportation system (ITS) into the management system. The pilot project includes 150 on-board units equipped with GPS, GIS and communication devices, together with vehicle data recorders. There are totally 150 trucks from northern, central and southern regions of Taiwan in the 8-month pilot project and 60 of them go into the second phase, which is another ten-months operation period.

Dynamic user equilibrium problem with link capacity and first-in-first-out constraints 具有链路容量和先进先出约束的动态用户均衡问题

The paper incorporates both the link capacity and first-in-first-out constraints into the dynamic user equilibrium problem. The corresponding dynamic equilibrium conditions for each origin-destination pair and time interval state that the generalized route travel times experienced by travelers are equal and minimal. A nested Lagrangian method embedding the gradient projection algorithm is then proposed and demonstrated with a numerical example.

A novel interactivity environment for integrated intelligent transportation and telematic systems 一种集成智能交通和远程信息处理系统的新型交互环境

Advances in intelligent transportation are rapidly sensing and connecting both highways and vehicles. This recent availability of high-speed communication and large quantities of information are rapidly changing the way we perceive transportation. In order to develop technologies and applications that are practical in this intelligent environment, it is important to consider specific ways to best use this infrastructure effectively. This paper focuses on the development of and experiments with a visualization environment that presents an interactive, immersive, and context-preserving display of outdoor information. The developed visualization integrates a variety of types of information about a section of interstate such as aerial photographs, maps, and live outdoor videos into a single interactive environment. Additionally, a wireless mobile testbed is presented that allows the undertaking of novel interactivity experiments among mobile participants without requiring a fully instrumented vehicle. These systems allow effective experimentation with and integration between highway and vehicle based real-world intelligent transportation systems.

This paper describes an autonomous traffic flow simulator including inter-vehicle and road-to-vehicle communications. First, autonomously running vehicles traffic flow is modeled in detail, and the modeling of the assumed driving assistance system, inter-vehicle communications and road-to-vehicle communications is carried out. Next, based on such modeling, a microscopic traffic flow simulator is constructed, and performance evaluation methods are mentioned. Finally, as examples of performance evaluations, effects of shadowing in inter-vehicle communications and road-to-vehicle communications are examined.
