Design of complex semiconductor integrated structures 复杂半导体集成结构设计

We present the benefits and limitations for designing complex optical semiconductor-based integrated structures by means of advanced numerical modeling. Multi-section tunable laser designs are presented in this summary; and their tuning properties are analyzed for different architectures. Other applications and their performance characteristics will be presented in the final paper.

A PCE-based redundancy-aware path selection scheme for multi-layer network 一种基于pce的多层网络冗余感知路径选择方案

With ever increasing requirements posed by significant advances in networking, service providers may use traffic engineering (TE) techniques to efficiently manage resources and provide consistent quality of service (QoS). Briefly, constraint-based path computation involves the pruning of links that do not satisfy constraints and subsequently using the shortest path algorithm on the resulting sub-graph. This process is simple and efficient when the path involves only one domain, but can potentially become severely resource heavy, complex, and inefficient when multiple domains are involved. To address this problem, the Path Computation Element (PCE) architecture has been proposed to allow multi-layer path computation to be simple and efficient. The PCE architecture introduces a special computational entity that will cooperate with similar entities to compute the best possible path through multiple layers. This paper analyses the PCE architecture and the traditional method to computing the routing through multiple layers, and then an improved scheme of path selection for multi-layer network based on PCE and VNTM is present and evaluated on the simulation platform of NSFNET, which is used to avoid traffic redundancy caused by low layer's invisibility to the high layer.

Optical channel drop filters based on 45° photonic crystal ring resonators 基于45°光子晶体环形谐振器的光通道降滤光片

A new optical channel drop filter configuration was proposed based on two-dimensional (2D) square-lattice 45° photonic crystal ring resonators (PCRRs). The ring was formed by removing the line defect along ΓM direction instead of conventional ΓX direction. Its spectral information including transmission intensity, dropped efficiency and quality factor affected by different configurations like single-ring PCRR and cascaded dual-ring PCRR was numerically analyzed with 2D finite-difference time-domain technique. More than 830 spectral quality factor and 90% dropped efficiency can be achieved at 1550-nm channel for one single-ring PCRR. Two different light wavelengths can be dropped simultaneously for cascaded serial dual-ring PCRR. These findings make the 45° PCRR optical channel drop filters as an alternative to current micro-ring resonators for ultra-compact WDM components and high density photonic integration.

Decoupling efficiency of multiple coupled photonic crystal waveguides 多耦合光子晶体波导的去耦效率

We investigate decoupling characteristics and efficiency of multiple coupled photonic crystal waveguides (M-CPCWs) using coupled mode theory on the basis of self-imaging principle. The three-, four- and eight-CPCWs are selected as the typical structures to discuss the general characteristics of the M-CPCWs. It is found that around the frequency where the multiple guided modes are almost degenerate, which leads to that the power transfer in the M-CPCWs is eliminated for any entrance. The frequency region for decoupling is insensitive to the number of coupled waveguides with the extinction ratios higher than −15dB. An optimization way by introducing a defect mode is utilized to enhance the decoupling efficiency. The simulation results are based on the finite-difference time-domain method. The decoupling of the M-CPCWs exhibit many advantages and may have practical applications in photonic integrated circuits.

A novel kind of all-optical dynamic grating with the reflectance and the center wavelength controlled by other optical waves can be realized based on Brillouin scattering in optical fibers. Evaluations on physical and optical path level hierarchical networks to implement optical fast circuit switching 实现光快速电路交换的物理和光路级分层网络的评价

We propose an efficient network architecture to implement optical fast circuit switching. To effectively manage dynamic path operations, we introduce a hierarchical structure consisting of physical network level and optical path level. Numerical experiments show that the proposed hierarchical network greatly reduces the necessary number of switch ports.

An ultra-wideband single-mode single-polarization photonic crystal fiber design is proposed. Simulations indicate it has a 1540 nm SMSP range with the confinement loss being ≪ 0.25 dB/km and an effective area of 2.2 µm2. Meanwhile, the flat, near-zero group velocity dispersion can also be achieved at ∼800 nm.

We have developed a terawatts high intensity, sub-hundred femtosecond ultra-short pulses, 248.6 nm ultraviolet laser systems, with dye seed laser in blue-green regime, amplified in the multi-stage dye amplifiers and then frequency doubled and finally amplified with multiple-passes KrF amplifier. We have characterized the system performances, the amplified interaction volume, the amplified spontaneous emission optimization, the Excimer amplifier and the system merits.
