Monitoring wetland hydrology in Atlantic Canada using multi-temporal and multi-beam Radarsat data 利用多时相多波束Radarsat数据监测加拿大大西洋湿地水文

Wetland complexes comprise a large percentage of ground cover in central Labrador, Canada, and contain some of the largest peatlands in North America. The region experiences long cold winters and short cool summers, resulting in a limited growth period. Fens and bogs are the dominant wetland types. The level of moisture saturation, chemistry, topography and climate influence the development of wetland systems. Slight changes in these environmental factors can significantly alter vegetation species and health. As persistent cloud cover often limits the utility of optical remotely sensed data in Atlantic Canada, the value of using the all-weather capabilities of radar data become evident. Temporal sequences of Radarsat images were acquired in May, June and August 1999. During each time period, four Radarsat scenes with incidence angles spanning 20-49° (Standard 1, 4, 7 and Fine 1) were acquired. This paper describes changes in radar backscatter as a function of incidence angle, vegetation structure and moisture conditions.

Phosphorus concentrations of brook runoff in a Swiss agricultural catchment : Iongitudinal variability and subsurface drainage impact 瑞士农业集水区小溪径流的磷浓度:纵向变化和地下排水影响

Hydrological characteristics and water quality of anthropogenic subsurface drainage and brook runoff were observed in a small agricultural catchment near Basel (NW Switzerland). A two year monitoring programme provided concentration data for soluble Molybdate Reactive Phosphorus (MRP = Dissolved Reactive Phosphorus) for both base flow and storm events. Recurrence frequency and correlation analyses were conducted to evaluate the samples with regard to time-space variability as well as observance of eutrophication limits. Results suggest substantial MRP input into the brook system via subsurface drains, partly originating from private wastewater treatment facilities. Runoff, particularly in upstream brook sections, clearly exceeds eutrophication limits already at MRP concentrations (CMRP) of low recurrence frequency. During non-event periods a decrease in C MRP is obvious from upstream brook sections towards the catchment outlet as a result of dilution as well as hydrobiological and chemical processes.
