Determining factors of teachers’ readiness to teach economics using a spiral progression approach 用螺旋递进法决定教师准备教经济学的因素

The Philippine K-12 curriculum embraces the spiral progression approach as a learning strategy that revisits and reinforces themes throughout a student's educational journey, gradually increasing their complexity. Despite the abundance of literature on spiral progression in education, there is limited research on teachers' readiness to implement this approach, specifically in the field of economics. This study aims to address this gap by evaluating teachers' readiness based on their profiles and knowledge of economics during the first and second grading periods. Through descriptive analysis, this paper provides insights into teachers' readiness and the necessity of utilizing the spiral progression approach to achieve the goal of producing globally competitive graduates. The study involved 29 social studies teachers selected through the "side judgment" purposive sampling technique, which was the most appropriate for this study's purpose. The findings indicate that teachers' readiness is positively influenced by factors such as educational attainment, specialization, teaching experience, mentoring received, and training attended. However, age and meetings attended do not directly affect teachers' readiness. These results contribute to both theoretical understanding and the practical application of teacher readiness in implementing the spiral progression approach. Moreover, this study sheds light on the readiness of teachers to use the spiral progression approach when teaching economics. The analysis provides valuable insights for both researchers and educators, facilitating a deeper understanding of teacher readiness and emphasizing the importance of implementing the spiral progression approach to produce globally competitive graduates.

Family members’ perspective of depression in old people in Vietnam 家庭成员对越南老年人抑郁的看法

The most prevalent disorders that lead to emotional distress in older people are depression and its disorders. Older people’s sadness is usually misinterpreted and misdiagnosed in this demographic. The effectiveness of the illness’ treatment will certainly be impacted by family members who frequently care for depressed older people. The purpose of this research is to analyze the perspectives and experiences of family members with regard to older people’s depression. In this study, a total of 804 caregivers of senior patient with depression in the province of Quang Ngai received a questionnaire that contained a total of 26 items. The questionnaire was distributed in Quang Ngai province, Vietnam. The most important finding was that the majority of family members who provide care for elderly patients exhibiting depressive symptoms were aware of the factors that contribute to the development of depression in older people and used their own coping mechanisms in order to provide care for them.

The role of organisational culture in conflict management among university stakeholders 组织文化在大学利益相关者冲突管理中的作用

Organisational conflict is a pervasive issue in university systems, particularly in South Africa, which can harm the work environment and productivity if left unaddressed. This research investigates how organisational culture affects conflict management practices among university stakeholders and proposes measures to establish a culture that promotes effective conflict resolution. Drawing on the competing values framework (CVF) and social identity theory (SIT), the study adopts a transformative paradigm perspective, utilising a participatory research design to encourage collaborative problem-solving. Ten prominent stakeholders were purposefully selected from a specific university, including two deans, two heads of departments, two lecturers, two student leaders, and two non-teaching staff members. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to gather data, which were then analysed thematically. The results indicate that a culture of respect, inclusivity, and openness, as well as training and resources, significantly affect conflict resolution. Consequently, open communication, active listening, collaboration, and a culture of diversity, inclusivity, and respect were identified as practical approaches to create a culture of effective conflict resolution. The study concludes that establishing a culture that promotes effective conflict resolution in universities necessitates prioritising open communication, active listening, and collaboration and fostering a culture of diversity, inclusivity, and respect.

The key drivers of employee engagement in private higher education institutions in Malaysia during COVID-19 2019冠状病毒病期间马来西亚私立高等教育机构员工敬业度的主要驱动因素

Online teaching has become an inevitable trend in education to enhance employee engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic. Changes in the workplace have disrupted employee experiences and caused psychological distress. Therefore, this study aims to examine the relationship between key drivers of employee engagement during COVID-19. The AON Hewitt Employee Engagement Model was adapted. Three main factors rewards and recognition, workplace culture and leadership were identified to further investigate the phenomenon. The design of the study was cross-sectional and the research instruments were adapted from a number of prior studies. A total of 132 online questionnaires were filled out by Malaysian employees of private institutions of higher education. Research hypotheses were evaluated using SPSS version 26.0. All key drivers were found to have a positive and statistically significant effect on employee engagement. The findings of this study are intended to provide insights into the key drivers that influence employee engagement. This study sheds light on how to incorporate business strategies aimed at improving employee engagement and organizational performance during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Professional facilitator: Development of training courses to enhance the facilitator technique for Thai community enterprises through online media 专业引导者:开发培训课程,通过网络媒体提高泰国社区企业的引导者技术

This study aims to develop a training course to enhance the techniques of a facilitator for Thai community enterprises using online media. The author collected data from sixty participants from Thai community enterprises in two sub-districts using cluster random sampling. Three research instruments, namely, training courses, knowledge tests and skill assessment forms were used for data collection. The data was analysed using statistics such as mean (X), standard deviation (SD), t- test dependent and one-sample t-test. The ultimate contribution of this research is to enhance the economic stability of community enterprises for sustainability and self-reliance according to Thailand’s government strategic plans and national policy.

Writing strategies in the production of expository dissemination articles in university students 大学生说明文传播文章的写作策略

Academic writing fulfills an epistemic function as it transforms knowledge, creates ideas and becomes a tool for new and significant learning.   However, academic writing is very challenging for university students. Therefore, this study aims to determine how writing strategies affect students at a university in Lima, Peru who produce expository dissemination articles. This research used a quantitative approach, an applied study and an experimental design with quasi-experimental characteristics. The sample consisted of 56 second-semester students, 26 of whom belonged to the control group and 30 to the experimental group. The instrument and the programme of 14 learning sessions were applied in the Zoom virtual classroom through synchronous and asynchronous classes. The results showed a value of U= (Z = -5.262 <-1.96) and (p = 0.00 < 0.05)   which demonstrates that the programme applied in virtual environments had a significant effect on the experimental group. The four writing processes of planning, textualization, revision and editing are integrated into academic research in the educational field. This program’s aim is to   improve and strengthen university students writing skills.

Social media adoption through product diversification and market diversification: The dynamic capabilities perspective 通过产品多元化和市场多元化采用社交媒体:动态能力视角

The literature highlights social media as an effective communication platform for firms to connect with potential customers. Although scholars have investigated various benefits of social media, limited studies have explored the antecedences of social media adoption for firms. Particularly, we lack an understanding of which firm strategies could affect social media adoption and how. Drawing on the dynamic capabilities perspective, this study utilizes logistic regression to analyze data from 1,392 public firms to investigate how particular strategies could influence social media adoption. The results indicate that a firm’s market diversification strategies are a significant determinant of social media adoption, while product diversification strategies play a relatively less important role. A diversification strategy involving social media may be more favorable when entering new markets as opposed to launching new products. The findings of this study contribute to the existing research on social media and shed light on strategic implementations that lead to social media usage by firms.

Drawing on the dynamic capabilities perspective, this study utilizes logistic regression to analyze data from 1,392 public firms to investigate how particular strategies could influence social media adoption. The results indicate that a firm’s market diversification strategies are a significant determinant of social media adoption, while product diversification strategies play a relatively less important role. A diversification strategy involving social media may be more favorable when entering new markets as opposed to launching new products. The objective of the study is to determine whether artificial intelligence (AI) tools, software, and technology can assist management in identifying intangibles such as the employee engagement level and offer hints as to what factors influence it and how management can work to enhance it. A descriptive study was carried out to better understand the research topic. A structured survey questionnaire was employed to collect the data, in which the closed-ended questions used a Likert-type scale. The questionnaire measured AI’s effects on productivity, organisational effectiveness, employee satisfaction, and employee engagement. The survey was published on Google Forms, and a link was provided to the respondents. The data were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 28. Statistically significant results were obtained on the association between AI and the determinants of organisational effectiveness, increased productivity, employee satisfaction, and employee engagement. AI thus influences the study variables, and the results are statistically significant. The employees of an organisation will adopt and use new technologies if the technology is easy to use and adopt and beneficial to them. The management of organisations can source technologies like AI and other tools that are easy to use, and they can implement such technologies in a phased manner, educating employees on the advantages and benefits of the technology to maximise employee engagement.

Factors affecting investor demand in a health emergency 在突发卫生事件中影响投资者需求的因素

This paper investigates the influence of COVID-19 exposure and China exposure disclosed by companies in their annual reports on firm value. Research data were obtained from annual reports. The study used observations of 430 companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during 2019 and analyzed using ordinary least squares (OLS) with fixed industry effects and standard error estimation with Stata 17.0 software. The study also used the Heckman two-stage as a robustness test. The results show a positive and statistically significant relationship between COVID-19 and firm value. The same result is also shown in the relationship between China exposure and firm value. Our research provides evidence that exposure to the COVID-19 situation resulted in an increase in firm value during the period. Additionally, these results were found to be robust by the Heckman two-stage test. With these research findings, companies can identify factors that can influence an increase in firm value, including providing clear disclosure on company conditions such as COVID-19 and China exposure. Companies that comprehensively disclose their information during uncertain environmental situations will provide opportunities for them to generate a more positive performance, as stakeholders provided funding facilities for companies to pursue growth during the COVID-19 period. Therefore, the COVID-19 factor as a form of exposure for companies is expected to encourage companies to continue to adapt and innovate.

Gender, financial literacy, and financial behavior among students 学生的性别、金融知识和金融行为

This study intends to examine and analyze the influence of financial literacy on people’s behavior and the difference in financial literacy and behavior based on gender. The population of this research comprises students in higher education institutions in Jakarta and were selected using the snowball sampling technique. This study utilizes the survey technique by distributing questionnaires to the sample population, and the variance-based structural equation model (SEM) was used to statistically analyze the responses. After deliberating the results, this study concludes that males have better financial literacy and behavior than females; financial literacy can intervene in the association between gender and money-related behavior. This means males tend to manage their money when they are financially knowledgeable. Based on this evidence, higher education institutions must set personal financial management as mandatory and elective subjects for business and non-business departments in their curriculum, respectively.
