Grid computing is becoming more and more attractive for coordinating large-scale heterogeneous resource sharing and problem solving. Although Globus toolkit version 4 which is developed based on WSRF can successfully deal with the heterogeneity of resources and the diversity of applications, the current grid environments based on Globus toolkit version 4 have several limitations regarding dynamic reconfiguration of virtual organization (VO) and remote hot deployment of grid services. This paper proposes WIVO (Web-based user Interface for Virtual Organization), the web-based user interface using web service. Using WIVO, user requested sub-VO can easily be configured on top of grid environment based on Globus toolkit version 4, and grid services can also be deployed remotely for better utilization of resources and applications. It is expected that the VO reconfiguration function as well as the remote grid service deployment function provided in WIVO can improve resource and application utilization.
WIVO (web-based user Interface for Virtual Organization)。

In this paper, we describe the Gaussian Weighted Histogram Intersection (GWHI) algorithm. The algorithm is able to provide positive results in image retrieval. But the histogram algorithm alters the histogram of an image using particular lighting conditions. Even two images with little differences in lighting are not easily matched. Therefore, we propose that the Histogram Matching Algorithm (HMA) is able to overcome the problem of an image being changed by the intensity or color in the image retrieval. The proposed algorithm is insensitive to changes in the lighting. From the experiment results, the proposed algorithm can achieve up to 30% more recall than the GWHI algorithms, respectively. Also, it can achieve up to 34% more precision than GWHI. Therefore, with our experiments, we are able to show that the proposed algorithm shows limited variation to changes in lighting.

Content aware storage (CAS) is a model of storage facility. In this paper, we present a prototype of CAS area network system implemented at Tsinghua University in China (THCASN) compliant to the OSD T-10 standard. Experimental results of performance comparing THCASN with NFS and iSCSI storage are described. The experimental results demonstrate the performance of THCASN is comparable to and better than that of regular storage systems.

We introduced the motion capture system using two CCD cameras recently, but could not show any better accuracy than a system using PSD camera. In this paper, we propose two kinds of method to improve the accuracy of the 3D acquisition of the motion capture system using CCD cameras. The applied methods are a distortion removal and z-axis adjustment. We show the result how much the accuracy on the 3D acquisition system improved through comparing with the previous system.

Although information technology applications vary widely, they are rarely used in support of creativity. This study presents an idea generation support system based on anchor and gestalt theories. Some perspectives from these theories are borrowed to build theoretical foundation of the proposed system. Anchor building is important to creative process. Applying stimuli suggested by gestalt theory can drive users to generate fresh ideas. The proposed system is domain-independent and can improve personal creativity.

Agent platforms provide a framework for development and execution of parallel applications such as multi-agent based simulation (MABS). However, these platforms have limitations to support large-scale MABS applications in practice. This paper aims at investigating and improving the performance of an agent platform with a MABS workload in distributed environments. We carried out an experimental study with the JADE framework as our agent platform. The experiments show the performance characteristics of the workload and that JADE does not scale well due to message transport and agent directory service limitations. We propose solutions to overcome these performance bottlenecks and facilitate the efficient execution of MABS in a distributed environment. Initial experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approaches.

The heterodyne laser interferometer has been widely used in linear displacement and precise measurement field. However the periodic nonlinearity that arises from incomplete laser sources and nonideal optical components restricts the precise measurement at the nano-meter level. In this paper, the total least squares (TLS) algorithm which can obtain optimal compensation parameters of nonlinearity is introduced. Using the TLS algorithm, the nonlinearity error is reduced and the measurement data can be more stabilized. The effectiveness of TLS approach is verified through the comparison of the experimental results with those obtained by a capacitance displacement sensor.

The auto-braking system was designed by VHDL and fabricated to keep a distance. It provides pre-crash safety system for intelligent car. This module can detect the distance between front vehicle and your vehicle to keep a constant distance using a sensor and operate the brake system forcibly if the driver does not decrease the speed of car. The system displays the distance between the two vehicles and the speed of your vehicle. The performance of the system was good.

This paper proposes a new efficient and secure copyright protection scheme for digital watermarking by using visual cryptography technique. The proposed scheme has the following merits compare with previous related schemes: (1) The proposed scheme uses simple codebook to generate a watermarked image. (2) The proposed scheme does not need to expand the watermark image. (3) The proposed scheme eliminates two security problems on the previous Lou et al.psilas scheme which that the problem of stability of relationship between discrete wavelet transform (DWT) coefficients and the problem of ambiguity of watermark verification. As a result, the proposed scheme is more efficient and secure compare with previous related schemes.

Spacelog is a continuous collection of existence states and activity experiences of various entities in a physical environment, and it can be regarded as a special database or conceptually seen as a memory organ specifically for a real spatial site such as a home and a laboratory. Different from lifelog that is a personal database for a single individual, the entities in the spacelog cover multiple forms including people, facilities, artifacts, and space-related states in a site. This paper first explains the spacelog concept as compared with concepts of log, lifelog, monitoring cameras and context history, then discusses the fundamental features of the spacelog as well as related technique issues faced to develop spacelog systems, and finally describes the possible novel services and applications using spacelog in smart spaces.
