The paper deals with the problem of the multifunction radar resources management (MFR RM). MFR RM consists of target ranking and tasks scheduling. The paper is focused on the data fusion approach to the target ranking. The data from the radar (object's velocity, range, altitude, direction etc.), IFF system (identification friend or foe) and ESM system (electronic support measures - information concerning a threat's electro magnetic activities) are used to decide of the importance assignment for each defected target. The problem is also known as a threat assessment. The main problem consists of the multiplicity of various types of the input information. The information from the radar is of the probabilistic or ambiguous imperfection type and the IFF information is of evidential type. To take advantage of these information sources an advanced data fusion system is necessary. The paper describes a comparison between the fuzzy and the neural network systems which were used in order to perform the threat assessment.

The theory of scattering by lossy dielectric, ferrite and/or conducting cylinders is investigated using a combination of iterative scattering procedure and the orthogonal expansion method. The addition theorems for vector cylindrical harmonics, which transform harmonics from one coordinate system to another, are presented.

A numerical model of several different waveguide sections connected in series (the waveguide transducer) is presented in this work. The practical application of this model is the calculation of the scattering and transmission parameters of a novel mm-wave integrated phased array (E. F. Zaitsev et al, Proc. Antenna App. Symp., 1997) input unit - the waveguide transducer from standard empty waveguide to layered ferrite-dielectric waveguide. To solve this complex electrodynamic problem a numerical method, different from the usually applied finite elements method, was used.

This paper presents a resonant electrode structure that can be employed in optical modulator designs to improve the optical response of the modulator over a narrow frequency band, and improve the performance of optical radio systems. A simple model of the structure is developed, and experimental results presented.

Modelling of single section to three-section 3 dB balanced power dividers has been performed taking into account recently developed chip resistor CAD models. Real resistors may significantly degrade the isolation of the divider's output ports and considerably affect the input reflection coefficients. Re-optimising of divider counteracts this effect, leading to circuit parameters close to those that would be obtained with perfect resistors. Practical example of a microstrip divider designed and optimised for high isolation in the GSM and DCS frequency bands supports the numerical results.

Some practical problems concerning the application of microwave absorbers in multilayer antenna arrays are discussed. Several examples are described for illustration of the suppression of parasitic influences and excitations in the antenna feeds: resonance attenuation and phase delay in meandered microstrip lines; parallel-plate modes in stripline feeds, resonance coupling between different layers etc. The utilization of absorbing microwave coating for realization of simple attenuators/phase shifters, as well as planar loads for distributing components in antenna feeds are additionally considered.

Optical heterodyne millimeter-wave (mm-wave) generation using traveling-wave photodetectors (TW-PDs) is examined both experimentally and theoretically. Ultrahigh-frequency (110 GHz, 160 GHz and 460 GHz) InP-based 1.55 /spl mu/m TW-PDs were fabricated and employed in experimental set-ups for optical heterodyning. For the first time a 1.55 /spl mu/m photonic sub millimetre-wave (460 GHz) local oscillator (LO) module has been developed and demonstrated.

Methods of synthesis, mathematical models and parameters of broadband microstrip uncouplers for multiport multiport complex loads are considered in this paper. These circuits are used for a solution of an optimal broadband matching problem for an antenna array. Structure parameters and a synthesis of these networks are based on eigenvalues and eigenvectors of multiport scattering complex matrices. A microstrip realization of the uncoupler and its computer-aided simulation are described.

In this paper we present computer simulations for vertical interconnections between a CPW transmission line and a CPW chip (CPW-CPW) using isotropic (ICA) and anisotropic (ACA) conductive adhesives. The location of the bumps in both types of adhesives is investigated for both interconnection types. Another structure is CPW-MS transition in which the active surface is turned upwards from the CPW board. The design of the circuit in this case is greatly facilitated - this configuration only needs one via-hole for each connection.
