This paper presents a linear antenna array with radiators in the form of a tapered slot. An antenna construction made on a dielectric ground is compared with a traditional one ("in metal"). A model array composed of 4 elements is described. The study presents measurement results and indicates the possible applications of such antennas.

Theory of oscillators usually starts with an oscillator fundamental circuit containing two components: a negative resistance and a frequency stabilising circuit. Conditions for the oscillation start-up and for the steady state follow then, leading to so-called amplitude and phase conditions expressed in the case of microwave oscillators either in the immitance form or written with the use of the oscillator components reflection coefficients. From the mathematical point of view both approaches should be equivalent. However, it has been shown in the past that only the immitance-based approach guarantees a successful oscillator design. In the paper this question has been reconsidered from the didactic point of view. It has been shown that both approaches are actually equivalent, provided that over-simplifications appearing sometimes in the literature are avoided. The extended Smith chart has been also used, yielding a clear graphical interpretation of the involved relationships.

The use of injection-locking to obtain the phase shifting for an array antenna transmitter is considered The general idea, described earlier by York and Itoh (see IEEE Trans. MTT, vol.46, no.11, p.1920-29, 1998) and by Qian and Itoh (see IEEE Trans. MTT, vol.46, no.11, p.1891-1900, 1998), consist in applying the tuning of the oscillator while it is injection-locked. In such a way it is possible to obtain the phase shift between the locking and output signals of the oscillator. It was shown that this solution could be improved with photonics with the use of the optical injection-locking and the optical tuning of the oscillator. Especially, the oscillator with a photovaractor can be useful, because optical locking and tuning can be applied with the use of the same laser diode and the optical fibre link.

This paper shows that the signal processing in FM-CW radar is similar to a correlation receiving technique with compression of the FM scattered signal spectrum along the frequency axis. This compression is realized with the use of a matched filter. The output signal of the matched filter is the autocorrelation function of the FM input signal. However, the compression theory of FM pulse signals along the time axis cannot be used directly for the description of signal processing in FM-CW radar with high resolution both in distance and in Doppler frequency. In this connection the development of a signal compression theory for FM-CW radar is opportune and actual.

On an example of the nonlinear, transverse non-homogeneous dielectric of a layer the constructive approach of the analysis of amplitude-phases dispersion of the oscillation-wave fields of nonlinear object, for regular and irregular points of a spectrum, is demonstrated. The algorithm of the numerical decision of nonlinear stationary spectral problems is offered. It is based on application of a method of successive approximations, on each step of which are decided the appropriate linear spectral task for the normalized own field. The norm of an own field is defined from the decision of a task diffraction or excitation of a nonlinear layer.

The paper describes problems related to the use of microstrip antennas in cellular telecommunications systems. Because of the unique properties, microstrip technology is nowadays often used to manufacture antennas for base stations as well as for handset terminals. It also seems to be a very promising technology for multisystem antennas, for which there is an ever-growing demand. The paper also presents a short overview of currently available solutions and ones under development by the authors, along with some key problems related to their design.

The FDTD (finite difference time domain) method has proven to be effective in modeling high-frequency electromagnetic problems in the telecommunications industry. Recently it has been successfully applied in microwave power engineering. In order to accurately model scenarios typical in this field one has to deal with movement of objects placed inside cavities. This paper describes a simple algorithm that makes it possible to take into account object rotation - important in simulations of domestic microwave ovens. Results of example simulations are presented.

The paper describes a prototype integrated microstrip antenna column used in an IFF secondary radar system with electronically controlled radiation characteristics. This prototype column has been built using composite technology. Electrical parameter test measurements performed using the prototype and a model radar antenna array fully confirmed the applicability of composite technology in the design of IFF radiolocation system antennas.

In the paper a new application of the Bluetooth wireless protocol is presented Bluetooth is used as an element of the system for integrated, centralized control of the digital devices in the multimedia home platform. The main part of the system is the multimedia gateway with the HTTP server inside. In the system there are also personal communication assistants (PCA), a special kind of remote control with the Bluetooth protocol applied to them. The PCA is used to communicate between user and multimedia gateway. The aim of the system is centralization of services in the multimedia gateway using servlet technology.
