Trauma caused by accidents and violence is a common and important complication of pregnancy involving 5-20% of p r e g n a n c i e s . Re c e n t s t u d i e s demonstrate that trauma is more likely to cause maternal death than any other medical complications of pregnancy. The medical records of the look country medical examiner were increased for the years 1986- 1989. Direct and indirect obstetric factors caused maternal deaths is 31.5% of 95 cases.
