Objective To determine the damage of DNA in peripheral blood lymphocytes samples from resident exposure to radon in indoor air. Methods Single cell gel electrophoresis and micronucleus measure methods were used in the present study. Results The results of cell migration frequencies for residents in cave dwellings and normal houses were shown 1^68% and 1^43%,of calculation by residents were 57 1% and 54 3% respectively.The frequencies of micronucleus results for residents of cave dwellings and normal houses were 1 07‰ and 0^78‰ respectively. Conclusion The frequencies of DNA damage and the ratio of micronucleus for residents living in cave dwellings was shown some higher than that of residents living in normal houses, p values close to 0 05.;

Objective To study dose|response relationship for chromosome translocation and its persistence measured in human lymphocytes exposed to 60 Co γ rays.Methods The chromosome translocations in human peripheral lymphocytes were detected by fluorescence in situ hybridization using 4+# and 7+# combination of composite whole chromosome|specific DNA probes and Giemsa stain.Results The dose|response relationship for chromosome translocation induced by 60 Co γ rays in vitro could be described by the function:Y=0.0030+0 0134D+0 0165D+2.The frequencies of chromosome translocations induced by 0.5 and 2 Gy γ|irradiation did not diminish over time,so it exhibited excellent persistence.Conclusions The results indicate that retrospective dose|reconstruction can be accomplished using chromosome translocation frequency.

Objective To investigate whether or not adaptive response of the 2BS and A549 cells induced by low dose irradiation.Moreover,to analyze the relationship between the adaptive response and cells cycle regulation. Methods 1.The dose survival curves of A549 and 2BS cells were figured by colony formation and typan blue cell staining.2.Flow cytometry was used to analyze the cell cycle after the different doses irradiation. Results 1. The adaptive response induced in 2BS cells by low dose,while it was not induced in A549 cells.2.G 2 phase arrest of 2BS cells after 75mGy X ray plus 4Gy 60 Co γ ray irradiation appeared in 30 minutes,and cell cycle recovered in 24 hours. Conclusion The adaptive response of 2BS cell could be induced by low dose irradiation,and there was close relationship between the adaptive responses and the regulation of cell cycle.

Objective To study the relationship between the expression of GAP|43 mRNA and nerve regeneration in rat brain after 60 Co γ|irradiation. Methods Wistar rats were subjected to whole|body irradiation with 8 Gy 60 Co γ|rays.The expression of GAP|43 was detected by in situ hybridization histochemistry using Dig|cRNA probe. Results It was found that the expression of GAP|43 mRNA increased in the cerebral cortex,caudate,putamen,globus pallidus,thalamus and hypothalamus one week after 8 Gy 60 Co γ|irradiation.The peak of GAP|43 mRNA expression was observed in the fourth week and then began to decrease but still remained at a higher than normal level.However,it decreased to a low level after 7 weeks. Conclusion Enhanced expression of GAP|43 mRNA after 60 Co γ|irradiation in rat brain is associated with nerve regeneration and reconstruction of synapse.

Objective To calculate the mean absorbed doses at celluar and subcellular levels for uniformly and non|uniformly distributed Auger electron emitters. Methods The energy deposited in cell or nucleus by Auger electrons was analytically calculated using the polynomial representation of energy loss.S|values were subsequently computed for several target|source combinations.The absorbed dose and dose distribution were calculated for spherically symmetric radionuclide distributions depending linearly and exponentially on the radial position.The dose profile as a function of the source radial coordinate was also evaluated for typical cell sizes.The contributions of photon radiation to absorbed dose in cells were ignored. Results The mean absorbed dose and dose distribution depend largely on the size of target cells,the radiation spectrum and intracellular localization and distribution of radionuclides.The contribution of intranuclear radionuclides to mean absorbed dose was larger than that of extranuclear ones. Conclusion Auger electrons can produce high local energy deposition in cells because of their very low energies and extremely short ranges.Our dose calculation method is simple.The results are reliable and can be used in many fields.
