In this paper we consider a general electro magnetic characterization of advanced composite panels of fiber-reinforced epoxy with or without a bonded-mesh screen embedded in one surface. It is shown that over the frequency range characteristic of the nuclear EMP or lightning, composite panels whose fibers do not possess a preferred orientation may be modeled as uniaxially anisotropic conductive or dielectric media, and that the bonded-mesh screen may be modeled as an equivalent sheet impedance operator which has both resistive and reactive components and which is spatially dispersive. We also present the results of time-domain shielding calculations involv ing planar composite panels and cylindrical shells of advanced composites. It is shown that, geometrical considerations aside, a graphite-epoxy composite has a low-pass or integrating characteristic, while a screened poorly conductive composite has a high-pass or differentiating characteristic. Closed regions shielded by composites tend to act as time domain integrators of signals passing from the exterior to the interior in the frequency range below the inter nal cavity resonances. Thus the total transfer characteristic between the fields outside and inside a closed region may be understood as approximately representing attenuation and a double integration for conductive (e.g., graphite-epoxy) composites, or simply attenuation for screened nonconductive com posites .

Citizen's Band (CB) radio channels are already badly congested in large metropolitan areas, and the number of licensed sets is increasing several million per year. In addition, interference from skywave propagated CB signals during the three years near the peak of the next solar cycle (two to four years from now) will probably significantly decrease the opera tional range of users in less congested parts of the country. 1 ' 2 As a result, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has been studying the possibility of establishing a new Personal Radio Service to supplement the Citizen's Band service.

The prediction of crosstalk in ribbon cables is in vestigated. Experimental results are obtained for a 20 wire ribbon cable and compared to the predictions of the multiconductor transmission line (MTL) model. Based on the experimental configuration tested, it would appear that accurate predictions of crosstalk can be achieved in controlled characteristic cables such as these. The prediction accuracies are typically with + 1 dB for frequencies such that the line is electrically short and + 6 dB for frequencies such that the line is electrically long. It was found that the parasitic wires in the cable can have a significant effect (as much as 40 dB) on the coupling between a generator circuit and a receptor cir cuit in the cable. Therefore to achieve accurate pre dictions in ribbon cables, one must consider the inter actions between all wires in the cable. The wire in sulation evidently cannot be ignored for frequencies such that the line is electrically long. The impedance of the reference wire cannot be ignored for low frequen cies where the common impedance coupling dominates the electromagnetic field coupling.

This paper discusses the rectification response exhibited by low frequency bipolar transistors when microwave energy is injected. A circuit analysis model for calculating low frequency small signal response to microwave energy is discussed and applied in analyzing the behavior of a 741 op-amp. non-uniformity of gain across the emitter. In an emitter follower circuit such as that which appears at the 741 input, the principle circuit response is due to the emitter-base offset voltage, which may be calculated from knowledge of device material and geometrical factors. Quantitative theoretical calculations are performed to relate the response of a small NPN transistor similar to that used in a 741 op-amp to its material and geometrical parameters.

A computer program (PECAL) is described which pre dicts the performance of multiple EM communication equipments in the 2 to 400 MHz band when placed in a Navy shipboard (single-ship) configuration. A com bination of linear and nonlinear interference phenom ena are analyzed. The scope of the program is limited to the treatment of interference mechanisms involving radiated, antenna coupled signals and multicoupler crosstalk signals. The EMC performance measures are expressed in terms of statistics, as are many of the model parameters used in the interference prediction equations.

在这一项目中,我们将对先进的环境管理模式(ADCA)进行研究。ADCA是一种可用于气体燃料和氧气复合材料的先进技术。数字式反应器(e x t e r n a l c o u p l i n g )和反应器(s k i n d当出现这些情况时,应立即停止运行。当这些 "正常运行 "与 "已正常运行 "进行比较时,就会发现 "正常运行 "与 "已正常运行 "之间的差异、人们会认为,"(在这种情况下)"(s k i n d i f u s i o n)比"(a p e r t u r e s)"(s k i n d i f u s i o n)的"(s k i n d i f u s i o n)"(s i n d u c e d l e v e l s)更有效。然而,这也是一种通过对自然环境的保护来提高自然生态能力的方法。在 6 m i l t h i c k f l a m e s p r a y c o a t i n g o v e r t h i r e a i r c r a f t 中 , C a l c u l a t i o n s a l s o done w i t h a r d e n in g f i x w h i c h c o n s i s t s o f 6 m i l t h i c k f l a m e s p r a y c o a t i n g o v e r t h i r e a i r c r a f t .这 些 铝 制 物 可 以 减 少 40 多 分 贝 的 噪 声 。

The mathematical description of the response of a complex system such as an aircraft, a building, etc., to a general electromagnetic stimulus is a problem of exceeding difficulty. High confidence prediction of the signals at the various failure ports (normally pins) is in general beyond the state of the art. Related to the problem of failure-port signal predic tion there is the problem of reducing such signals to acceptable levels (i.e., hardening). This problem has serious implications for hardening systems to the effects of the nuclear electromagnetic pulse (EMP) as well as other electromagnetic environments.
