In contextualized vocabulary assessment, target words appear in extended context. Compared to tests employing single-word or limited-context prompts, research suggests that contextualized assessment is more reliable and demonstrates better concurrent validity. In meaning-recall vocabulary assessment, examinees retrieve target-word meaning from memory and typically demonstrate knowledge via a written L2-to-L1 translation. Compared to multiple-choice formats, meaning-recall yields more reliable data, correlates more strongly with reading comprehension, and is less influenced by guessing and test strategies. To facilitate these approaches to vocabulary assessment, this article introduces a resource for teachers and researchers to create, administer, and mark contextualized meaning-recall tests. Users input a passage, select target items, and share the test URL with examinees. Examinees then provide L1 translations or L2 synonyms, definitions, or explanations of target words in input boxes below the lines of text. Self-assessment is sometimes used to assess second language (L2) skills, but it has a degree of error that is possibly caused by L2 learners themselves, resulting from their L2 proficiency level and psychological traits. This study, involving 196 Japanese university students, calculated the self-assessment bias of L2 speakers using many-facet Rasch measurement. Correlation analysis explored the relationship between self-assessment bias and L2 speaking proficiency with psychological traits including self-esteem, English speaking anxiety, and English speaking motivation. The results showed that self-assessment bias was related to the belief in effortism, in which a person correlates ability with intensity of effort, and the Dunning-Kruger effect, in which high-proficiency learners tend to underestimate and low-proficiency learners tend to overestimate their abilities. Research with Japanese learners of English (Brown et al., 2020) has shown that Japanese learners of English typically have inadequate knowledge of the word parts of English. Research with other groups of learners also tend to show a wide range of degrees of knowledge of word parts (Laufer & Cobb, 2020; Sasao & Webb, 2017). This lack of knowledge has important implications for vocabulary size and reading in English because a very large proportion of Level 6 word families (Bauer & Nation, 1993) include many family members that contain prefixes and suffixes. Related to this, a large proportion of the tokens in any text are complex words (Nation, 2022), that is, words containing affixes. The study of word parts is called morphology, and occasionally I will use this term and its adjective, morphological, when referring to word parts, largely because first language research on word parts uses the terms morphological awareness and morphological knowledge. Word part knowledge is closely related to vocabulary size, and vocabulary size is closely related to proficiency level. This article looks at this relationship and tries to relate these three factors using the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) levels. Brown et al. This study tried to discover British colonial power in George Orwell’s Burmese Days. Gramsci's hegemony theory regarding to a concept of an integral state was applied. A qualitative descriptive method was used in the study. Data in the study were dialogues and narratives from historical contacts between British and Burmese regarding the British colonial regime. The data consisted intrinsic element of theme, and 2 extrinsic elements of political society and civil society. Both elements were structure in literary works, and represent the British colonial power in George Orwell’s Burmese Days. A theme of colonial was found among the element of fiction. There were extrinsic elements such as political society and civil society. The study concluded that the intrinsic elements forming a story that could representative how the British colonial power appeared on theme. The relationship of both elements form totality of meaning and integrity that how the British colonial power operations in George Orwell’ Burmese Days. Egri's three-dimensional theory (1923) was employed to examine the multifaceted aspects of Catherine Danielle Clark, the main character in Delia Owens' novel "Where the Crawdads Sing." This qualitative study utilized a narrative approach to gather and analyze data through inductive and deductive techniques. The findings revealed several three-dimensional aspects of Catherine Danielle Clark. Physically, she possessed beauty, long black hair, and a well-proportioned body with a deep-tanned complexion, which improved as she matured. Socially, she hailed from a lower-class American family, held various jobs as a seafood seller, book writer, and poet, and experienced discrimination and singledom. Her hobbies included reading books and collecting organisms from the marsh. Psychologically, she exhibited introversion, insecurity, sensitivity, irritability, selfishness, anxiety, and a reluctance to forgive. However, she also displayed independence, optimism, and a determined fighting spirit for survival, showcasing remarkable talent in painting and writing. Overall, the study found that the psychological dimension was more pronounced than the physiological and social dimensions. This study aimed to study cinematography elements presented in Gabriele Muccino’s The Pursuit of Happiness (2006). To analyse the object of the research, it used cinematography theory by Blain Brown. The study used descriptive qualitative research design. Drama genre is one of the biggest and popular genre in the movie industry, since it shares some empathy, hopes, aspirations, dreams and fears (Editors, 2018). It focused on analysing the dramatic aspect through cinematography using Gabriele Muccino’s The Pursuit of Happiness (2006) movie. The study found that many cinematography elements in Gabriele Muccino’s The Pursuit of Happiness (2006) are proven using dramatic aspect from both lighting and camera technique. In conclusion, the movie shows a drama genre movie which has cinematography elements that need to be added to deliver the emotion of the story and to increase dramatic elements in the movie. This study aimed to identify the language function in tweets from @onlyjiungs. The @onlyjiungs Twitter account's tweets served as the study's source of data. Purposive sampling and the descriptive qualitative approach were utilized in this study to get the answers to its research questions. The findings indicated that among the 31 data, the referential function (14 utterances, or 45,2%) is most frequently used, followed by the expressive function (11 utterances, or 35,5%), the phatic function (2 utterances, or 6,4%), the metalingual function (0%), the conative function (2 utterances, or 6,4%), and the poetic function (2 utterances, or 6,4%). The tweets from @onlyjiungs met every requirement in Hymes' (1974) theory of context SPEAKING, showing that context SPEAKING on a tweet from @onlyjiungs answers every requirement of the theory. The tweets were taken from September 2021 through October 2021. The goals of @onlyjiungs' tweets were intended to be represented and expressed in the final sections of the Twitter post outcomes. The following social act update about Jiung's life was provided by @onlyjiungs. She underlined a particular statement she made in the tweets. Because, they were intended for teens their age, @onlyjiungs's tweets are also frequently written in a casual tone. The typical Twitter tweet mostly focused on describing the purpose of and the message included inside it. The kind of utterances from those tweets generally had a stronger referential function since those Twitter postings' primary purpose was to notify @onlyjiungs' followers who are the readers. Literary psychology is defined as a field of study that examines literary works that involve fictional or factual characters acting out events from human life. Superheroes figure started to show up in 1930s, their characters were always written as a perfect human being due to the WW II. This study compared mental illnesses encountered by the two major protagonists in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins (2005) and Jon Favreau's Iron Man 2 (2010) films. Mental issues have been very openly discussed in the current days and there are lots of movies which started to portray mental issues in the story, including superhero movies. This was a comparative literature from Bassnett (1993) and Damono (2009) to discover the similarities and differences between the characters, as well as Psychology of Literature by Minderop (2010) assisted by structuralism theory and theories of mental disorder from psychology. This study used a qualitative method. The results showed that Batman and Iron Man suffer from several mental illnesses, such as: depression, anxiety, antisocial, schizoid, PTSD, narcissistic, histrionic, and OCD. The study concluded that both main characters as the centre of the story who have an internal problem within themselves because of their mental illnesses.
