This compilation, the first of a series, presents additions, corrections, and amendments to the Convolvulaceae account for the Flora of Thailand that was published 10 years ago. Methods used include the traditional study of dried voucher specimens housed in herbarium collections, field research and collecting, and monitoring photographs of Thai Convolvulaceae shared on selected natural history applications. This initial compilation results in 13 species new to the flora, updates names for eight species, amends taxonomic concepts (and names) for four species, and augments the distribution for 16 species. One orthographic change is made to bring a binomial into conformity with the International Code of Nomenclature. We highlight significant discoveries for two rare and little-known Thai Convolvulaceae species. References are cited to document descriptions, ecology, distributions beyond Thailand, and several new taxonomic works published since 2010.

The lectotype for Ardisia kerrii is designated here. Ardisia cordulata var. appresso-hirsuta is placed as a new synonym of A. demissa. Additionally, the correct locations of four species that were misinterpreted are also given. Now A. betongensis is excluded from the list of Thai Ardisia.

Identifying a bamboo taxon from the Asian seasonal tropics is notoriously difficult, if not impossible, especially when the type material is lacking vegetative parts. This is due to the fact that old type material associated with the naming of bamboos often consists of only flowering branches and perhaps just a few leaves, and, as bamboos in the field are vegetative for prolonged periods prior to flowering, they are therefore not easily identifiable much of the time. Investigating one such bamboo, Neohouzeaua mekongensis, we show that previous flowering collections made during the seasonal dry (flowering) season could not have easily included key vegetative parts, such as the culm sheaths, which would have assisted in their recognition at other times. We trace this species back to its type localities and propose an epitype in order that its vegetative characteristics are made available to complement the floral characteristics of the original material.

Diospyros phuwuaensis, a new species from Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary, North-Eastern Thailand is described and illustrated. Photographs, ecological information and an IUCN conservation status are provided. The distinctive morphological characters of the new species and its related species are discussed. Based on cpDNA data, the new species is confirmed as an independent lineage and placed in the Diospyros clade V sensu Duangjai et al. (2009). It has phylogenetic affinities with Diospyros mollis, and then D. fulvopilosa and D. kurzii. Our result supports the assignment of the new species to Diospyros section Kurzella. A revised description and a key to the species of Diospyros section Kurzella is presented.
