Totally 126 species from 43 genera and 7 subfamilies of ants have been found in the Buxa Tiger Reserve. Of them Tetramorium curtulum Emery, 1895, Calyptomyrmex friederikae Kutter, 1976 and Dolichoderus brevis Santschi, 1920 are recorded from India for the first time. Six rare species are also found here, viz. Gesomyrmex spatulatus Cole, 1949, Rhopalomastix rothneyi Forel, 1900, Colobopsis cotesii (Forel, 1893), Colobopsis vitrea angustula (Emery, 1925), and Camponotus selene (Emery, 1889). The diversity and distribution pattern of different species opens avenue for considering this protected area as a gene pool for ant diversity in West Bengal.

The species Hesperinus cuspidistylus Hardy et Takahashi, 1960 is recorded from Russia for the first time. Diagnostic characters of three similar species, H. cuspidistylus, H. rohdendorfi Krivosheina et Mamaev, 1967 and H. nigratus Okada, 1934, are discussed. These species differ in the structure of male terite 9 and form of gonostyli. A key to the species from the Russian Far East and Japan is given.

A new species of ground-beetles, Cymindis (Arrostus) borkini sp. n., is described from the two localities in Western Himalayas, Himachal Pradesh, India from the environments of the Sungri Town (type locality) and from the Spiti Valley. The new species is similar to both C. (A.) glabrella Bates, 1878 and C. (A.) facchinii Kabak, 2006, but easily differs in the light color of body with dark cruciate elytral pattern, larger eyes and stouter median lobe of aedeagus.

The survival, transmission, and spread of most viruses depend on insect vectors. The potato ladybird Henosepilachna vigintioctomaculata transfers such potato viruses as PVY, PVM, PVX, PVS, PLRV, and PSTVd from diseased potato plants to healthy ones. The plant viruses were detected in all plants by the end of the experiment. The studied potato ladybird beetles had different orientation behavior while searching for food depending on whether they were infected with PVY, PVM, PVX, PVS, PLRV, and PSTVd or not. The infected H. vigintioctomaculata fed predominantly on healthy plants (72% of the beetles).

The neotype of Torleya padunica is designated and description of all stages is given. The larvae T. padunica is most similar to T. cohery, T. dibruensis, T. elissa and T. major; the genitals of male imago – to T. naga and T. mikhaili; the eggs – to T. lutosa, T. major, T. mikhaili, T. naga and T. nepalica. Torleya padunica is genetically distant from other Torleya species showing uncorrected p-distances of >19 %, values well associated with interspecific variation. The well-supported monophyly as well as results of species delimitation analyses confirms the validity of T. padunica.
