This study began operating literacy education institutions recognized by academic background in 2013 in order to suggest ways to revitalize literacy education institutions recognized by middle-aged and older people. As of 2022, 9 institutions are operating literacy education courses for elementary and middle school students. The ‘literacy education institution in North Chungcheong Province’ was judged to be suitable for the research purpose, so it was selected as a case and a qualitative study was conducted. As research participants, 13 interviewees were selected from four actively operated institutions with different types of facilities. The research results were as follows. First, as a way to establish a literacy education system for academic achievement recognition in the Chungbuk region, enactment of an ordinance, deployment of lifelong educators dedicated to literacy education, establishment of a management support system to identify potential demand for academic qualification recognition, promotion of education to raise awareness of literacy teachers and literacy teachers, and governance where the private and public sectors work together. will need to be built. Second, as a plan to revitalize the operation of literacy education institutions in North Chungcheong Province, first, active promotion of literacy education recognized by academic qualifications at the national level and research on various promotion methods in institutions are necessary. Second, there is a need to expand nearby learning spaces to make it easier for middle-aged and older learners to access. Third, financing must be secured in the form of a main budget that can be continuously supported, rather than a budget in the form of a public offering project. Fourth, it is necessary to structure the class in the form of a community learning class so that a sense of identity and mutual relationship can be formed between learners. Fifth, it is necessary to plan learner-centered programs to strengthen learning motivation, develop curriculum that provides opportunities for learners to experience various education, and develop educational content such as apps related to educational content. Lastly, it is necessary to expand the social base to change the perception of literacy education recognized by academic qualifications.

This study was conducted to find a practical plan to increase the successful aging of the elderly who participated in a literacy education program. Specifically, it was designed to identify the relationship between the elderly's sense of self-integrity and successful aging, and to verify whether they have a mediating effect of social isolation and a moderated mediating effect of hope. To conduct this study, a questionnaire was distributed to 280 elderly people aged 65 or older participating in literacy education in some areas of Chungcheongnam-do, and SPSS window version 25.0 and PROCESS macro version 4.1 were used for the data of 260 people, excluding 20 insincere responses. For data analysis, frequency analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, mediating effect analysis, moderating effect analysis, and bootstrap were used. As a result of the study, first, the sense of self-integrity according to the elderly's participation in literacy education had a positive relationship with successful aging. Second, social isolation mediated the relationship between self-integrity and successful aging. Third, in the relationship between self-integrity and successful aging, the mediating effect of social isolation was regulated by hope. The results of this thesis will be used as a model for the successful aging promotion of the elderly who participated in the literacy education program through hope.

This study is a qualitative case study that explores the context of life and transition learning of elderly learners in the autobiography writing program. The study participants were nine people who participated in the 12-time elderly autobiography writing program held at B Welfare Center in A City from September to November 2022. The researcher collected and analyzed handwritten books and individual interview data of research participants while participating in the autobiography writing program. As a result of the study, it was possible to confirm the case of conversion learning in the process of changing perspectives in the life of the study participants and conducting an autobiography writing program. Participants participated in the autobiography writing program in a non-voluntary situation, but through active communication with other participants, they reflected on their thoughts and lives and listened to other people's lives with an open mind. In this process, changes in perception occurred, finding the meaning of life experiences that have passed and showing an attitude to plan for the future life with a more open and receptive attitude. This study aims to emphasize the significance of the elderly autobiography writing program for low-educated elderly learners and the importance of writing elderly autobiographies in terms of lifelong education.

We examined how household income, household expenditure, and itemized expenditure rates change when young elderly (65-74 years old) become elderly (75-84 years old) 10 years later, and whether there are differences by household type (single-person households, married couple' households). We also examined whether household type affects the difference in itemized expenditure (2020-2010). To do so, we used the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA), which includes 856 older adults aged 65 to 74 as of the 3rd wave (2010). By household type, there were 195 single-person households and 197 married couple' households. A paired sample t-test was conducted to examine the changes in household income, household expenditure, and itemized expenditure ratio between 2010 (3rd) and 2020 (8th) for all seniors and by household type, and a regression analysis was conducted to examine how household type affects the difference in itemized expenditure from 2020 (8th) to 2010 (3rd). The results showed that income increased significantly in 2020 (Wave 8) compared to 2010 (Wave 3). The overall expenditure on living expenses and eating out increased significantly for the total elderly, single-person households, and married couple' households, and the proportion of housing expenses in living expenses decreased significantly. In addition, when looking at the difference in expenditure by item by household type, it was found that household type significantly affected the difference in food expenditure. This shows that the difference in food expenditures increased among single-person households compared to among married couple' households. Based on the research results, support measures for elderly single-person households and on-site education services for the elderly were proposed.

This study aims to develop a home-training exercise program to improve lower extremity function in elderly women. Accordingly, through the Plan-Do-Check-Act (hereinafter PDCA) model, a program was developed and applied to evaluate its usability. In the first cycle, the program was developed (P), applied (D), and structured (A) through qualitative evaluation (C). The program was developed by combining baseball massage and self-resistance exercise, and was applied to seven elderly women over 65 years of age twice a week for a total of 12 weeks. The program was implemented non-face-to-face (Zoom, Jitsi-meet) with an instructor once a week, and at-home exercise was conducted through home training once a week. In the process of running the program, operations that needed to be excluded or modified were identified, and the program was structured to reflect this. In the second cycle, the structured program from the first cycle was applied to 15 elderly women twice a week for a total of 8 weeks, and changes in lower limb function of a total of 15 people were evaluated. As a result, compared to before participating in the program, there was a positive improvement in all items, including lower limb flexibility (p-value<.001), lower limb strength (p-value<.001), and dynamic agility (p-value<.001). appear. Baseball massage and self-resistance exercise to improve the lower limb function of the elderly through 2 cycles of PDCA is a program with a high compliance rate and no injuries or side effects, and can be used as a home-training method that can contribute to improving lower limb function. This has been confirmed.

The purpose of this study was to compare differences in socio-demographic characteristics, depression, and life satisfaction between the elderly participating and the non-participating in economic activities, and to identify variables that affect participation in economic activities in old age. For the purpose, we conducted Chi-square test, t-Test, Pearson correlation analysis, and Binomial logistic regression analysis on the raw data of 10,097 people over 65 years old from 『Survey on the Status of the Elderly in 2020』. The main results were as follows : 1) There were higher proportion of subjects male, younger, higher educated, with a spouse, with higher income, with good subjective health, and living with a spouse in the participating group than in the non-participating economic activity group. In addition, the participating group in economic activities had higher satisfaction with health status, economic status, social-leisure-cultural activities, relationships with friends or community, and life as a whole, and lower depression. 2) As a result of the binomial logistic regression analysis, the model was statistically significant and had an explanatory power of 24.0%. All variables except satisfaction with economic status were significant factors influencing participation in economic activities in old age. The elderly male, younger, less-educated, living alone, higher-income, higher satisfaction with health status and relationships with friends or community, lower satisfaction with social-leisure-cultural activities and life as a whole, and with lower depression were more likely to participate in economic activities. Finally, based on the results of this study, several limitations and suggestions for follow-up research and policy direction were added.

This study aimed to clarify the scope and roles of caregivers, conducting an in-depth analysis to examine whether there is sufficient policy support in place for their current roles. To do so, we utilized domestic and international databases, including papers and reports from the year 2000 to 2023. We extracted and analyzed relevant literature using keywords related to the field of caregiving and informal caregivers. Policy support for the older people and family caregivers included strategies to reduce financial burden, indirect support for the older people, as well as direct support methods such as counseling and leave programs. However, there was a lack of integrated educational systems for both care recipients and informal family caregivers, leading to limitations in accessing information and support as the nature of caregiving evolved. Support policies for caregivers were institution-centric and fragmented, indicating the need for organizations overseeing caregiving comprehensively to provide education and support programs. The provision of interconnected data that both caregiving recipients and caregivers can understand is fundamental for long-term caregiving policy development. It is essential to explore practical policy measures for caregiving, enabling the formulation of integrated policies to support caregivers effectively.

This study aimed to examine the perception of digital literacy education for the elderly and to examine policy implications for practitioners. To this end, 8 practitioners in charge of education at a local lifelong learning institution were selected as research participants and a qualitative study was conducted. The concept was derived through open coding, and it was categorized as a basis for differentiated educational support considering diversity, increasing need for education by level, realization of basic learning rights, infinite usefulness of education, and improvement of quality of life. As a result of the analysis, considering the stratification by generation, policy implications of establishing an educational perspective for active participation in a changed life, including digital citizenship and professional vocational education, educational support in the form of learning clubs, and a shift in the basic literacy education paradigm were suggested.

This study is conducted to explore the meaning of the learning experiences of the female elderly learner who experienced life crisis events and participated in the literacy program accredited elementary education. For the purpose, the life history research method was employed. The participant overcame the great crisis of life that she faced in the latter half of her lives by learning in the literacy program, while reporting a significant change in her mind compared to before learning. In addition to a sense of confidence and achievement, it is said that unlike before, her mind has softened and her has become more tolerant of others than before. Based on the above research results, the following implications were derived. First, the literacy program process involves more than academic accreditation. The participant’s learning was further motivated by the needs of escaping from the crisis situation, which led to her perceived joy of learning and life. Second, the participant gained a sense of accomplishment and confidence by receiving support from teachers and fellow learners. Third, the participant newly established her attitude toward life for the rest of her lives while attending literacy schools. Through introspection and rumination on the learning experience, which is the process of reinterpreting or reinterpreting the meaning of the learning experience and converting it into action (Mezirow, 2000), an opportunity for a positive change in consciousness is created.
