All-fiber design approach for temporal parabolic pulse (PP) generation through a very short length of tapered microstructured optical fiber (MOF) is proposed. A length of just ~ 20 cm of designed MOF is shown to yield PP for a Gaussian input at 2 μm wavelength.

We have experimentally studied in real time the effect of gamma radiation on the characteristics of long period fibre gratings written in different types of fibres. The grating parameters and fibre composition have been optimized. Prototype packaged sensors have been developed for field application.

Radiation-resistant optical fibers have been fabricated through MCVD process. The low radiation-induced-absorption in the fiber and few picometer shifting of Bragg-wavelength of the FBG under γ-exposure indicate its potential application for sensing in radiation environment.

We propose an image encryption scheme based on the double phase encoding in fractional Fourier transform domain for securing two gray-scale images. For encryption, an image to be encrypted is converted into a phase-only image using modified Gerchberg-Saxton algorithm, which serves as a fractional Fourier domain key for encrypting another image employing double random phase encoding framework. For decryption, original images are obtained using the concept of known-plaintext attack. The numerical simulation results are presented in support of the proposed scheme.
