One of the most difficult problems in successful organizations is company sustainability, which is constantly one of the key worries of top managers. Total quality management (TQM), in particular, is regarded as one of the most crucial measures of sustainability, underscoring the significance of quality management in enterprises. Without also putting an emphasis on consumers, leadership, and process management, sustainability cannot fulfill its key sub-parameters—including "economic and social sustainability"—by relying just on the value of "knowledge creation and knowledge sharing". Accordingly, this study aims to examine the effects of TQM through Knowledge management (KM) as a mediator on company sustainability (CS) in various reputable pharmaceutical companies in Saudi Arabia. Data was gathered from managers, supervisors, and deputies of different departments from various organizational levels through a questionnaire. Applications of the software SPSS were used to analyze the data. The findings of this study verify KM and its sub-variables, including "knowledge creation and sharing" in addition to showing the beneficial benefits of TQM on businesses' sustainability. Additionally, they confirm that "knowledge creation and knowledge sharing" in organizations have a mediating role in the effects of TQM on the CS.

This scientific article provides a comprehensive review of the main tools and criteria employed in Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSWM) for achieving sustainable waste management. The objective of this study was to evaluate the most effective technology or combination of technologies for treating urban solid waste, along with the most used methodology for selecting such technologies. To achieve this, we conducted a systematic review of the literature, carefully selected relevant articles, and compiled data from various criteria studied to facilitate a comprehensive discussion and evaluation of the findings. The article evaluates the main tools and their combinations used in aiding decision-making in MSWM, in accordance with the objectives of the decision. The benefits of integrated waste management are highlighted, along with the challenges associated with its implementation. These challenges are inherent in each situation and must be evaluated individually, based on their characteristics. Optimizing sustainability criteria in MSWM can be achieved by searching for a technology implementation sequence. The article also synthesizes the frequency of each MSWM technology, such as landfill, incineration, anaerobic digestion, composting, gasification, pyrolysis, and recycling, being selected in decision-making in the literature. Furthermore, an analysis of the environmental, economic, social, technical, political, and administrative criteria and their sub-criteria in MSWM is carried out. It has been observed that Analytic Hierarchy Process and Life Cycle Assessment are the primary tools involved in multicriteria decision-making for Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSWM). Moreover, these tools demonstrate ease of integration with other methods, showcasing their flexibility and comprehensiveness. While the combination of MSWM technologies is a common goal in the studies examined, integrating a larger number of technologies poses challenges. Finally, the most frequently studied criteria in MSWM, in descending order of frequency, are environmental, economic, social, technical, and political/legislative/administrative aspects. Therefore, it is crucial to explore the less frequently studied criteria to overcome barriers and establish a more sustainable management approach for urban solid waste. In conclusion, the article suggests future work, including the development of a model that assists in the technology implementation sequence and assessing the feasibility of integrating the largest number of MSWM technologies. Although gaps exist in the literature on MSW issues and potential solutions, this review provides valuable information for decision-makers in MSW planning and in the search for scenarios that demonstrate superior performance.

We examine the impact of economy wide credit tightening on bank failures and investigate the relationship between bank failures and tighter monetary policy while accounting for bank balance sheet variables. Using a sample of U.S. banks from 1984 to 2020, we find the following: i) increases in corporate credit spreads lead to a significant increase in aggregate bank failures; ii) lower aggregate bank return on equity and higher allowances for loan losses are associated with a higher incidence of bank failures; iii) no robust evidence suggesting that tighter monetary policy drives higher bank failures. Finally, we show that lower bank failures, contraction in corporate credit spreads, higher bank profitability, and higher stock market returns contribute to higher economic growth, highlighting the interconnectedness of banking, stock markets, credit availability, and the macro-economy. These results may have potential macro-prudential policy implications.

Gift giving is an exchange that occurs since the beginning of civilization. It has a social, economic, and communication role (Belk, 1976). It is a complex act that involves many agents and factors, like gift giver and gift receiver preferences, the relationship between them, and the context where the gift is exchanged. The critical point in gift giving is to elevate receiver preferences without losing identity and keep a focus on the relationship (Liu, Dallas, & Fitzsimons, 2019). Nowadays, gift giving represents an essential part of Brazilian economics and culture (CNDL, 2019; 2020). This paper has an objective to understand how the offer framing effect, which suggests that the way a product is offered to a decision-maker and the number of choices this person performs, may impact the decision made (Mittelman, Andrade, Chattopadhyap, & Brendl, 2014), and how the social closeness between givers and receivers affects variety-seeking in gift giving situations. Through an experimental study, this paper found that social closeness influences variety-seeking, when givers and receivers are closer (distant) the choices are less (more) varied. It is also found that the relation between social closeness and variety-seeking depends on the way the choice is done (sequential or simultaneous) since this relation only happened when the choice was not sequential. Furthermore, preference uncertainty is a possible explanation for the main relation.

A strategic audit is an objective review and evaluation of a strategic plan (or set of plans) that have been put into motion by senior leaders and key stakeholders designed to meet an organization’s future objective. [CMOE, 2023] How such an audit is executed will have a direct impact on the ultimate value of the exercise. In this paper, we examine and discuss the structure of a strategic audit, the context in which the audit is conducted, frequency of audits and the application of simple tools to focus and audit. Future empirical research on the topic of strategic audits would shed light on the usefulness of such audits although the ability of obtain pertinent information and data to undertake such analysis in the for-profit sector would be challenging.

This paper investigates the multifaceted implications of globalization on global production networks, education, and climate change. Globalization has engendered the seamless movement of capital, goods, and ideas worldwide, concentrating economic activities in specific regions. This phenomenon yields advantages such as knowledge exchange and access to new markets, but also poses challenges such as intensified competition. The globalization of production networks profoundly affects education, demanding individuals to possess technical expertise, digital literacy, and intercultural proficiencies in response to evolving labor market needs. Despite digital connectivity, knowledge acquisition remains predominantly localized, thereby emphasizing the delicate balance between digital accessibility and localized educational attainment. Furthermore, global production networks bear significant consequences for climate change, as material and energy flows transcend geographic boundaries, exacerbating environmental impacts. The adoption of sustainable practices and robust environmental regulations assumes paramount importance in mitigating these effects. However, the challenge persists in externalizing environmental and social costs. By comprehending the intricate interdependencies and complexities inherent in globalization, we can navigate the opportunities and address the challenges posed by global production networks.

This study aims to develop a research instrument that measures e-banking customers’ experience of online banking services. In addition, the study aims to validate and define the newly developed instrument and to explore the factors influencing customers’ experiences with banking e-services in Saudi Arabia. An electronic database search was used to formulate a new questionnaire to address the study’s main themes (constructs). Experts provided face and content validity, and items that failed to contribute to an explanation of the study concepts were excluded. The first draft contained 10 themes and 78 items, but once the questionnaire’s conceptual framework had been clearly defined, the number of items was reduced to 75. The questionnaire represents customers’ experiences with the banking e-service, and it provides researchers and experts with a tool for assessing the factors that influence the promotion of e-services in the banking sector.

The aim of this literature review is to suggest future research on industrial symbiosis. This study is based on the analysis of the latent topics related with the industrial symbiosis found in a collection of 611 scientific articles retrieved from Web of Science on 2022/3/11. Our research process applies the topic modelling technique, which allows the grouping of documents that discuss similar topics, even if these topics are not explicitly mentioned in the documents themselves The initial classification of the existing body of works made it possible to identify current trends and developments in the field and the most promising lines of future research. Specifically, we identified 12 themes, which we characterised with a short sentence rather than a single label. Among the 12 themes, we have highlighted those that are attracting increasing attention from scholars, while others are declining or remaining stable over time.
