The Role of Architecture in the Sustainable Development of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) 建筑在阿联酋可持续发展中的作用

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) growth has developed immensely throughout the past few years, and along with its growth several environmental issues have been faced. In response to the climate and environmental inflictions and in support of the United Nation sustainable goals for 2030, the United Arab Emirates has developed several means by which sustainable development can be achieved. The United Arab Emirates has created a widespread vision for future sustainability goals that govern the country’s role towards accomplishing successful path towards green economy. According to the Brundtland Report 1987, Sustainability developments are defined as those that “meet the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” Sustainable development regulatory bodies such as Estidama categorize sustainable development under 4 major categories; environmental, economic, social and cultural which are relevant in achieving a sustainable future. Through these initiatives, the UAE aims to meet the goal of achieving 50% target for clean energy by the year 2050. This research discusses the UAE initiatives, measures and goals in the field of sustainable development and their effect in the UAE and the Middle East. The research also analyzes different aspects by which sustainable architecture in the UAE aids in providing a sustainable future for the country on its path of development. Most important, the write-up aims to relate sustainable architecture and sustainability goals roles in the process of sustainable development. In a nutshell the write-up discusses the solutions, responsibilities, challenges and initiatives that helps in meeting sustainability goals and maintains a better future for the upcoming generations. Balinese Traditional Landscape in Heritage Places: Its Roles and Challenges for Tourism Development 巴厘岛遗产地的传统景观:旅游业发展的角色与挑战

This Balinese traditional landscape has an important role for tourism development in Denpasar City, as one most growing city in Bali Province. Denpasar City faces land use change from agriculture to other functions such as settlement, commercial and business area during the last five years. Traditionally, Balinese traditional landscape consists of several elements that has functions to enhance the beauty of environment, health as well as improve economic of the city. There are natah, telajakan, lebuh, cemetery, melasti precinct, temple boundary, alun-alun green open space and cemetery. Denpasar City has many heritages including tangible and intangible that have been inherited since long time ago. Along with increasing development of technology and globalization that affect people to live in modern way that has resulted less concern in implementation of traditional values in landscape of built environment and heritage places. The research aims to seek how far Balinese people implements traditional landscape and its challenges in heritage places for tourism development purposes. Case study is conducted through observation in some heritage places that are still exist in Denpasar City as a cultural city. The observation investigates how far the traditional values of Balinese landscape have been adopts in heritage places. The research recommend that awareness of community to conserve traditional norms and values of traditional landscape to create identity of the city especially in the heritage places for tourism development in Denpasar City. Heritage as Tourism Potencies on the Riverbanks of Banjarmasin City Banjarmasin市河岸的遗产旅游潜力

Banjarmasin has been declared as one of 10 (ten) Indonesia's heritage cities pilot project. Compared to other cities, the 102 rivers that flow along Banjarmasin form a unique character of the city. Since long time ago, the expansion of power, religion, culture, and trading related to these rivers. Therefore, the settlements and its activities are always close to the rivers, so that many heritage sites are on the banks of the river. Heritage sites, traditional buildings, culinary and community activities on the river banks can be considered as potencies of the heritage tourist attraction. At the moment, the area is accessible by public transportation mode. However, to create the atmosphere of the river city and to prevent the extinction of river transportation as well as to create the visitor interaction with the river community, Banjarmasin needs a stronger connection between heritage sites and the character of the river city. This research focused on exploring the potencies of heritage tourism in Banjarmasin both tangible and intangible, in the riverside. To explore the history and culture of Banjarmasin use field observation and literature study. Assessing the Impacts of human needs on Enhancing of urban Tourism development (Case study; Shahrekord, Iran) 评估人类需求对促进城市旅游发展的影响(个案研究)Shahrekord、伊朗)

Human beings have a special importance as a main element in developing tourism, and meeting their needs as an inseparable part of tourism is one of the most fundamental factors in developing tourism industry. Human needs are defined by ten elements of: size, degree of safety, contrast, humanistic scale, distance, texture, color, odor, sound, and the variety in physical environment. So far, numerous studies have been carried out on the sense of belonging to place, but a few number of them has ever studied the effect of the ten above-mentioned elements of belonging to place on the tourism development as a progressive industry. Therefore, it was hypothesized that there is a positive relationship between these ten elements of belonging to place and the Development of Tourism Industry. This effect was studied in a descriptive-analytic survey. The main research method is to study the effect of this sense as a basic need on the Development of Tourism in the Shahrekord as tourist site in Iran,, the satisfaction of tourists of ten factors proposed by Fritz Steele as physical, social and environmental factors creating a sense of belonging to place were evaluated. The results revealed that there is a positive and meaningful relationship between any of these elements and tourist attraction in a way that elements like environmental contrast, sound, odor, materials, visual variety, humanistic scale, distance to tourist attraction, size, color, and security of the place, cause an increase in satisfaction of place and Development of Tourism Industry in the cities, respectively

Evaluation of Reverberation Time in the Auditorium - Case of Assembly Hall of Engineering Faculty, Universitas Sebelas Maret 礼堂混响时间的评价——以西班牙市场大学工程学院礼堂为例

This research was conducted at the Assembly Hall or auditorium of Engineering Faculty UNS. This study aims to see the acoustic comfort and how to improve it by modifying the room material. The method chosen is the method with the least amount of modification. The method applied was measuring the room condition using laser distance meter and sound level meter, taking notes on the characteristic of the material used, and developing a simulation based on several modifications of the room materials. The result of the simulation was then compared to the standard of reverberation time. The study concludes (1) the acoustic condition in the room is indeed not meeting the standard to ensure users comfort, (2) the reverberation time is better when additional plasterboard ceiling is built. The simulation in this study was done through the help of Ecotect 2011. Keywords— acoustic, material, reverberation time This research was conducted at the Faculty of Engineering Main Meeting Room with the aim of improving acoustic quality, especially the improvement of reverberation time (RT) of this space to fit the auditorium standards. To achieve this goal, major changes are made to the ceiling material because it has the most impact on space acoustics. Ceiling is also one part of the building whose material is easier to modify. Other parts that are also modified are walls and floors. I. ACOUSTICS AND REVERBERATION TIME CALCULATION A. Acoustics The Oxford Dictionary defines acoustics as “relating to sound or the sense of hearing”. In physics, the term acoustics is used to explain the properties or qualities of a room or building that determine how sound is transmitted in it (Oxford University Press, 2017). In the classroom, there are three components to consider when studying room acoustics as these components affect users’ information reception. The three components are ambient noise, reverberation and signal to noise ratio (SNR). Ambient noise, or sometimes called background noise, is the prevailing noise level in a specified environment measured in the absence of the noise being studied (Ziobroski and Powers, 2005). Ambient noise may be produced externally, for example the sound of rain, traffic, or operating powerplant outside the room. Internally, the noise may be generated by the noise from PC or laptop used, light blasts or simply users’ conversation. Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) compares the signal (direct sound or prime sound) to the noise. Basically, SNR is used to understand the quality of the signal transferred to users. Higher ratio is usually considered better specification because it means that the prime sound is louder than the noise (Altunian, 2016). The method applied was measuring the room condition using laser distance meter and sound level meter, taking notes on the characteristic of the material used, and developing a simulation based on several modifications of the room materials. The result of the simulation was then compared to the standard of reverberation time. The study concludes (1) the acoustic condition in the room is indeed not meeting the standard to ensure users comfort, (2) the reverberation time is better when additional plasterboard ceiling is built. The simulation in this study was done through the help of Ecotect 2011. Keywords— acoustic, material, reverberation time This research was conducted at the Faculty of Engineering Main Meeting Room with the aim of improving acoustic quality, especially the improvement of reverberation time (RT) of this space to fit the auditorium standards. To achieve this goal, major changes are made to the ceiling material because it has the most impact on space acoustics. Ceiling is also one part of the building whose material is easier to modify. Other parts that are also modified are walls and floors. I. ACOUSTICS AND REVERBERATION TIME CALCULATION A. Acoustics The Oxford Dictionary defines acoustics as “relating to sound or the sense of hearing”. In physics, the term acoustics is used to explain the properties or qualities of a room or building that determine how sound is transmitted in it (Oxford University Press, 2017). In the classroom, there are three components to consider when studying room acoustics as these components affect users’ information reception. The three components are ambient noise, reverberation and signal to noise ratio (SNR). Ambient noise, or sometimes called background noise, is the prevailing noise level in a specified environment measured in the absence of the noise being studied (Ziobroski and Powers, 2005). Ambient noise may be produced externally, for example the sound of rain, traffic, or operating powerplant outside the room. Internally, the noise may be generated by the noise from PC or laptop used, light blasts or simply users’ conversation. Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) compares the signal (direct sound or prime sound) to the noise. Basically, SNR is used to understand the quality of the signal transferred to users. Higher ratio is usually considered better specification because it means that the prime sound is louder than the noise (Altunian, 2016). Conservation of Ndalem As Part of Sustainability Efforts - Case Study: Ndalem Tedjokusuman 保护Ndalem作为可持续发展努力的一部分-案例研究:Ndalem tedjokusman

The Conservation process of a traditional building usually experiences several problems relevant to the responsibility, the ownership, the maintenance, and eventually the financial support. These also apply to the case of ndalems as Yogyakarta’s traditional heritage in which Yogyakarta Special Region declares its important cultural characteristics for the territorial local identity of this special region. The important role of ndalem should be supported by the policy of conservation and sustainability. However, in fact, it is difficult to find harmony between conservation and sustainability, because people usually evoke any tangible relevant matters. This paper discuss ndalem, in particularly by taking the case of Ndalem Tedjokusuman as the main case study, in giving the idea of conservation as a part sustainability effort. The research methods of this paper employ observation, surveys of physical identification, and interview. The analysis applies 3 dimensions visualization to show the category of spaces and building condition. The heirs described the spaces and activities during their past livelihood. The process of 3 D refinements was developed according to this long term memory. Sustainability, within its three pillars, which are social, economy, and environment, can be conducted to ndalems by adding culture. Ndalems embrace the core of a community. They support each other in term of tangible and intangible contribution. The process revealed that the problem of inheritance will affect the sustainability of ndalem as cultural heritage. Problems happen when the community experiences transformation and changes in terms of way of life, relationship, and ownership, which influence the intensive relationship between ndalem and its immediate community. Their intensive relationship may experiences either gradual or extreme decrease. However, the public space of a ndalem, namely pendopo, tends to have stronger sustainable capacity and longer existence. Therefore, conservation attempt shall include a certain radius or area of surrounding periphery of a ndalem to be included in conservation process in order to ensure the sustainable goal of a ndalem can be fulfilled. The sustainability of cultural heritage, neighborhood, and environment will address the sustainability of activity that involving the immediate community who supported the existence of the aforementioned cultural heritage. Parametric Design In Phase Of Schematic Design Case Study: Student Creativity On Form Studies 方案设计阶段的参数化设计案例研究:学生在形式研究上的创造力

Nowadays, the parametric design is one of the design approaches or method that architect and designer believe can be a tool for analyzing the possibility of geometric deformation and easily anticipating it by changing parameters. The parameters were changed through the parametric design software, which allows the user or designer to specify relationships between the various parameters in the design process. Still, architecture students were required to be able to use a design software. Students used a design software primarily to help them to develop the design concept or to apply their design analysis. Arguably, the student's ability of a design software impact on their creativity of form studies or design exploration. Furthermore, limited of design features in the design software was an obstacle for the student when they found it took a long time to explore the 3-dimensional model or not easily developed. That reason was believed to affect the quality of design that proposed by architecture students in schematic design and development phase in Architecture Design Studio. The research was done with the correlational descriptive approach. This research introduced a parametric design software to architecture students at the Technology University of Yogyakarta. The software in this research was Rhinoceros and Grasshopper. The respondents in this study were selected, they are 100 people consist of the second and third year of architecture student. Data collected using a Likert questionnaire that contains responses and suggestion after following a series of parametric design software training. In summary, the results of this study show that students were satisfied with their form studies or exploration that created using a parametric design software. Their skill on the design software slightly affects the creativity based on the number of form studies.
