Kombinirajući teorijske postavke antropologije krajolika i antropologije društvenog sjećanja, Jami pristupaju kao mjestu sjećanja, zahvaćajući životne priče pripadnika dviju generacija jedne pazinske obitelji.

The paper seeks to contribute to critical reflection on recent trends in cultural anthropology, the humanities more generally, and ongoing transformations of urban space. The first part of the paper explores the genealogy of two crucial anthropological approaches to “the life of the senses,” anthropology of the senses, and sensory anthropology, outlines their relationship to so-called walking methodologies, and relates them to the recent upsurge of research in atmospheres. The second part presents selected topics from the described fields in Ljubljana. More specifically, the paper deals with how, during sensobiographic walking through the historical city center, Ljubljančani and Ljubljančanke experienced what “atmospheric transformations” ushered in by Ljubljana’s annual December celebrations/festivities. The authors conclude that concepts and epistemological frameworks produced or implicated in the anthropology of the senses/sensory anthropology, as well as in walking methodologies and atmospheric studies, engender an examination of sensory dimensions of politics and economy in late capitalism but are appropriated in a reified form for purposes of capital accumulation.

In this paper, I examine the interaction of collective identity, community action, and tourism in the island town of Komiža, Croatia. I hypothesized that efforts to establish sustainable tourism development in Komiža would be influenced by the collective identity of residents. I found that tourism and collective identity act as a feedback loop, with identity influencing community efforts to develop sustainable tourism and vice versa. The findings suggest that in creating sustainable tourism models, we must avoid generalized efforts and instead work with communities to devise strategies that fit their individual needs and characteristics.

Drawing on recent scholarly critiques of dominant Balkanist understandings of memory work in post-war societies and focusing on individuals as active managers of transmitted memories, this article illustrates the dynamic nature of how the Sarajevo assassination and Gavrilo Princip are remembered in Sarajevo. It offers ethnographic insights into the everyday effects of power struggles between popular and official memories and responds to calls to explore affective states brought about by the politicization of the past in particular settings. Without denying the importance of memory in post-war Bosnia-Herzegovina, it nevertheless points to the relevance of exploring uncertainty, doubts, disinterest, and silences for ethnographic research on memorialization processes in post-conflict societies and beyond.

In the last few decades, awareness has been raised about the persistence and increase of domestic violence and intimate partner violence. The initial hypothesis developed here is that toward those forms of violence linked to the most intimate sphere – home – we, as a society, practice spatiotemporal “distancing,” thus allowing for this structural and cultural violence to continue. This paper aims to take up this contemporary theoretical premise in order to analyze historical accounts of cultural practices related to DV and IPV.

Pristup sugovornica materijalnim i nematerijalnim aspektima života pokazuje elemente “dobrog života” i “osobnog prosperiteta” te subjektivne dobrobiti i integracije.

The tattoo, once an indicator of belonging to subculture, deviant, and marginalized groups, or specific occupations, has become mainstream. Given that their social world has not yet been studied in much detail, this research aimed to explore the work experiences of tattoo artists. For the purposes of the research, semi-structured interviews with tattoo artists were conducted. The results show that for tattoo artists, tattooing is more than just a job – rather, it is integral to their lifestyle. Tattoo artists give particular importance to family and friends and support and belonging in both tattoo-specific and broader alternative scenes. With regard to cultural capital, a specific type of cultural capital, “alternative cultural capital,” proved to be important.
