School Administrators’ Priorities for Legal Literacy Training 学校管理者法律素养培训的重点

Legally astute educational leaders are essential to successfully execute any school's mission. This article relays practitioner viewpoints concerning priorities and preferred instructional approaches concerning legal literacy training. In doing so, the article advances overwhelming participant support for context-focused real-life legal literacy preparation. Remarkably only ten percent of the research participants reported receiving this suggested type of leadership preparation. Administrator-recommended approaches consistent with problem-based instruction would be more familiar to aspiring leaders, inspire greater awareness and confidence, and be more consistent with the sensemaking responsibilities already tied to their existing administrative roles. Finally, with expanding awareness of escalating challenges, including fallout from continuing culture wars and other national conflicts, the article contemplates literacy skills administrators could need in the future.

Studying negative aspects in work organizations: The benefits of qualitative methodologies 研究工作组织中的消极方面:定性方法的好处

The aim of this paper is to encourage researchers to employ qualitative methodologies when studying the negative aspects in educational leadership. To this end, I focus on one negative aspect in organization – abusive leadership and use it to exemplify the benefits of qualitative research and its potential methodologies. More specifically, I pose two questions: (1) How can the qualitative research improve our understanding of abusive leadership in schools; (2) what are the practical tools to study abusive educational leadership from a naturalistic perspective? Through qualitative research methods, researchers are likely to explore the complexity of human behavior and thereby generate deeper understanding of leaders' negative behaviors as well as of toxic interactions in the school. In this paper, I emphasize the epistemological contributions of qualitative methodologies to the research on abusive educational leadership and probe into the kind of knowledge we may gain when employing these methodologies.

Teachers’ Organizational Commitment: The Role of Demographic Characteristics and Their Psychological Empowerment in Turkey 土耳其教师组织承诺:人口统计学特征及其心理赋权的作用

This research was aimed at examining the influence of teachers’ psychological empowerment on their commitment to the school in the case of private schools in Antalya province, Turkey. Data were collected twice, first 297 teachers for scale development; second, we collected data from separate 297 teachers for the main analysis. A correlational type of research design was utilized. As a result, teachers were psychologically empowered and strongly committed to school at a high level. Teachers have statistically no or very weak differences regarding their education level, gender, and length of service in their perception of both psychological empowerment and organizational commitment. Moreover, psychological empowerment and teachers’ organizational commitment were significantly correlated. Finally, it was seen that the influence dimension was an important predictor of organizational commitment. Attitude, length of service, and age had no significant effect. Therefore it is recommended that principals should actively build the social, intellectual, and professional capital of teachers, which results in teachers themselves being empowered psychologically and finally committed to the school.

Evaluation of Image Studies in the Field of Education: A Systematic Literature Review 教育领域影像研究的评价:系统文献综述

In the present-day competitive landscape, the importance of image has increased significantly, whether it is on an individual level, within organizations, or on a larger scale. Image refers to the overall impression that a person holds in their mind regarding a concept, object, person, group, organization, institution, geographical region, or country. This mental representation is shaped by their past experiences and sensations, and it greatly influences the choices individuals make. The research aims to provide a systematic literature review on image research to promote image research. This research was carried out with a systematic review approach. The data of the research were obtained from the image articles published in the field of education in the journals scanned in Web of Science (SCIE, SSCI, AHCI). In the analysis of the data, bibliometric analysis and descriptive analysis technique, one of the content analysis techniques, were used. 48 research articles from 2002 to 2022 were critically reviewed and analyzed by applying a systematic literature review approach. The results showed that image studies were grouped under three themes: concept image, teacher image, and organizational image. The results also revealed what the inputs and outputs of corporate image were.

Assessing the implementation of school discipline policy in Ghanaian basic schools 评估加纳基础学校纪律政策的执行情况

As part of the effort to create safer and more protective learning environments in Ghanaian schools, the Ghana Education Service in 2017 officially banned all forms of corporal punishment and required teachers to adopt a positive discipline toolkit based on a manual prescribed as an alternative to corporal punishment. This study sought to investigate the implementation of the alternative positive discipline policy in the basic schools of Ghana. The study utilized qualitative research approach to gather data from 15 teachers through semi-structured interviews. Based on thematic analysis, the study showed that the teachers used many discipline methods per the policy on school discipline. They included writing lines, manual work, physical punishments, time-out periods, classroom rules, appointment and withdrawal of positions, and counselling to manage students’ behavior. The study, however, found that teachers perceive the positive discipline methods to be ineffective in managing students’ behavior compared to the use of corporal punishment. The implication drawn from the study was that despite the use of some alternative discipline methods by the teachers, they have not abandoned all forms of corporal punishments in schools. The study therefore recommended, among other things, that school leaders and other authorities institute surveillance and monitoring systems to check violators and sanction teachers who refuse to employ the non-violent discipline methods prescribed by the Ghana Education Service.

Culturally Relevant Leadership: Bridging the Equity Gap 与文化相关的领导力:弥合平等差距

The study aims to examine in depth the culturally relevant leadership behavior tendencies of school leaders to prevent inequalities in schools with high refugee student population in Türkiye. We utilized phenomenology in this qualitative research study. We gathered the data via face-to-face semi-structured interviews with 14 school leaders and used both descriptive and content analysis in the process of analyzing the data. The components of “personal awareness”, “equity pedagogy”, “policy mediation” and “professionalism” constituted the themes of the research. The views of school leaders revealed that the methods and strategies in eliminating the prejudice, exclusion, and xenophobia against refugee students are insufficient, and these problems lead the inequalities for refugee students in school context. Based on the findings of the study, we suggest that multicultural educational management approaches need to be promoted, and so the training programs and good practice examples from different contexts experienced in such practices should be followed.

Success through leadership resilience: qualitative exploration of a selected rural high school 通过领导韧性获得成功:对选定农村高中的定性探索

Failure and drop-out rate in rural high schools (RHSs) in South Africa remains a prevailing crisis. This has been attributed to issues such as poor/limited infrastructures, poverty, unemployment, among others. Thus, this case study explores the issue of a purposively selected South African Rural High School (RHS) with 15 years’ success rate at terminal examination known as Matric. Qualitative method was adopted, hence, interviews were conducted with eight purposively selected staff members of the school: one principal, one deputy principal, three departmental heads, two teachers and one senior admin clerk. The collected data was coded, categorised, thereafter thematically analysed. The findings of the study showed that resources in the selected rural high school are limited, and dropout impacts the school negatively. Nonetheless, with resilience and collaborative efforts of the school leaders: principal, deputy principal, teachers and other staff members, as well as limited reliance on government learners can be supported to succeed, thus increasing pass rate. The study therefore, recommends among others the need for school leaders to believe in their abilities, be resilient in their pursuit of ensuring learners’ success and if need be, rely minimally on support from the government.

Nonetheless, with resilience and collaborative efforts of the school leaders: principal, deputy principal, teachers and other staff members, as well as limited reliance on government learners can be supported to succeed, thus increasing pass rate. Many, if not most, of my writing comes from experience, as it does for many scholars – either observing situations and events, being among those involved in these, and the many discussions with students and colleagues about the experiences they have gone through in many countries I have visited or worked in. This topic of mentoring and the related role of role modelling initially came to me shortly after doing my doctorate in a mentoring mode with Christopher Hodgkinson in Canada, and my ideas about this were reinforced when I was mentored in informal postdoctoral work with Wolfgang Mommsen in Germany in the 1990s.

Mentoring-Based Learning Culture at Schools: Learning from School Administrator Mentoring 基于指导的学校学习文化:从学校管理者指导中学习

The purpose of this study is to examine the mentoring roles and behaviors of school administrators in the context of developing a learning culture in schools comprehensively and holistically. The study was designed as a phenomenological study and we utilized the interview as the data collection technique. A total number of 10 school administrators working at the public schools in Turkey participated in the study. Results revealed that mentoring is an essential component in the process of creating and maintaining an effective and collaborative learning culture. The findings of the research were discussed in the context of mentoring and learning culture with the theme of administrators’ competence areas, perspective and contribution on learning and development, professional learning activities, mentoring roles, learning barriers, self-assessment, and benefits of mentoring.
摘要本研究旨在探讨在学校全面、整体发展学习文化的背景下,学校管理者的师徒角色与行为。本研究设计为现象学研究,我们采用访谈作为数据收集技术。共有10名在土耳其公立学校工作的学校管理人员参加了这项研究。结果表明,在创建和维持有效的协作学习文化的过程中,指导是必不可少的组成部分。本研究以师徒关系与学习文化为背景,以管理人员的能力范围、学习与发展的视角与贡献、专业学习活动、师徒角色、学习障碍、自我评估和师徒关系的益处为主题进行讨论。

Mentoring, Role Modeling, and Acculturation: Exploring International Teacher Narratives to Inform Supervisory Practices 师徒关系、角色塑造与文化适应:探索国际教师叙事为监督实践提供信息

As teacher shortages continue in countries worldwide, international teachers may be recruited from other countries to help fill critical teacher vacancies, particularly in high-need subject areas such as mathematics and science. International teachers are a unique group who have specific needs, which could be addressed through school administrators’ supervisory practices. To understand international teacher needs, a review of the literature from 2009 to 2019 was completed to examine the extent to which dimensions of mentoring, role modeling, and acculturation were represented in international teacher narratives in peer-reviewed journals. In the course of the review, a fourth dimension of principals and ITs was found in the literature and explored. Findings from the literature review pointed to four themes related to the three identified dimensions: (a) a need for induction, (b) role modeling as collegial support, (c) international teacher acculturation issues, and (d) principal perspectives of ITs. The international teacher themes discovered through this review of the literature may help to inform the supervisory practices of school administrators as they strive to ensure positive outcomes for international teachers
